Pirates of the Burning Sea News - The Large Schooner

Posted by Craig McGregor on Apr 19, 2004  | 0 comments in our forums

The official site for "Pirates of the Burning Sea" has recently posted a new ship entry on the "Large Schooner".  It features lots of great renderings, screen shots and information about this fast and maneuverable ship.  Here is a small sample from the full article:

Large Schooner
The large schooner is not designed for heavy combat. Slightly lighter armed than an average sloop, the large schooner should focus on defense rather than offense. Merchant schooners are likely to be running light of crew, and should guard against being boarded. Anti-personnel shot, such as langrage and canister will help keep pesky pirates at bay, and dismantling shot will help schooner captains slip away from skirmishes.

Large Schooner
Large schooners have a distinct advantage in that their rig performs well both upwind and downwind. There are certainly faster vessels on any given point of sail, but the flexible rig usually means that a skilled captain can usually find a direction where it can outrun a pursuer - especially if that pursuer is suffering from sail or spar damage.
