Open Beta Stress Test This Weekend

Blizzard has announced that it will be conducting an open beta stress test for Diablo III beginning at 12:00 PDT today (Friday, April 20th) and running through Monday, April 23 at 10:00 PDT.

Darkness Falls, Heroes Rise FAQ

The Diablo III site has been updated with a new FAQ for the Darkness Falls, Heroes Rise site. The new interactive site gives players an opportunity to earn various rewards that will be able to be utilized when the game is released in May. There have, however, been some issues with site stability which the FAQ seeks to explain.

Making the End Game Fun & Exciting

The Diablo III forum has been updated with new information about a system that the team is putting into the game to make the "end game fun and exciting". Called Nephalem Valor, the system is designed to give players a special magic find - boss kill buff. This, however, comes with a caveat.

Analyst Predicts 5M Sales

Trends analyst Cowen & Company is predicting that Blizzard will be able to sell five million copies of Diablo III during its first year of release. The company opines that a million of these sales will come via the World of Warcraft annual pass promotion where players receive D3 for free.

Releasing on May 15th

Blizzard has announced that Diablo III will be unleashed on the world on May 15, 2012. World of Warcraft players can still score D3 for free by purchasing the annual pass for WoW. The deal will end on release day.

No PvP at Launch

The Diablo III blog has been updated with the bombshell news that the game will not ship with PvP game play and that it will be patched in at a later date. According to Jay Wilson, the decision was made as the team realized that the PvP system simply wasn't living up to the team's expectations. Wilson wrote: "...delaying the whole game purely for PvP would just be punishing to everyone who's waiting to enjoy the campaign and core solo/co-op content, all of which is just about complete."

Delayed to Q2

During yesterday's Activision-Blizzard investor's call, Blizzard announced that Diablo 3 will be delayed to Q2 2012. This means that the release of the highly-anticipated action RPG will arrive sometime between March and June. This announcement comes on the heels of the recent departure of Senior Producer Steve Parker.

Blizzard has announced that the Battle.Net Balance is now live. With the new service, players can purchase digital products through the upcoming Diablo 3 auction house as well as purchase digital downloads of all Blizzard's games.

Changing Systems to Get It Right

Jay Wilson has penned a new developer diary entry over at the Diablo III site in which he discusses some of the crucial systems that the team is looking quite hard at and which will undergo some changes. Wilson's team has been criticized for spending too much time altering systems rather than just releasing the game 'as is'.

Blizzard Removes RMT to Get South Korean Approval

Blizzard has been working long and hard to get Diablo III approved in South Korea. The stumbling block? Real Money Transactions. According to South Korean legislators, the RMT component of Diablo III might be in violation of the nation's anti-gambling laws.
