I totally agree with the op...and add: Diablo 3 is a poor excuse for a game...wow effect indeed...dumbing down to the bone[mod edit] people can buy and play, and be the best there is.
Oh i miss the classic wow...[mod edit] |

It feels far more visceral and physical than Diablo 2. You really feel the impact as you smash enemies, knock them back, destroy furniture and surrounds. The whole physical feel is just fantastic, better than any other action RPG I have encountered.
Everyone is not exactly the same. The amount of skill choice is at least as great as Diablo 2 - the only difference is that you can change your choice freely instead of rolling a new character. I will concede that this may hurt replayability for softcore players - not much point levelling a new character of a class you've already levelled.
The first third of the first act of the first difficulty level is very easy. Nobody knows how difficult it is after that. You're talking absolute nonsense with this "cartonny [sic] rainbow graphics" crap. It's not cartoony, it's not rainbowy, it's gothic as hell. You are constantly tramping over butchered, dismembered, impaled and generally abused corpses. It's more gruesome than Diablo 2. |

I agree with the OP. Unfortunately diablo 3 is nothing like diablo 1-2 and will surely disappoint a lot of real diablo fans. Newcomers to diablo will probably like it I guess. My biggest disappointment was how easy the game is, it's not difficult at all and it's got the classic WoW-effect (holds your hand while you play). I guess when I want a challenge out of a game I'm gonna have to turn to indie developers and just forget about AAA titles. |

Originally posted by Adhesive33 I second this. I am currently playing the Path of Exile beta and I am very happy with it. I bought my way into the beta by paying 10 bucks, which gets you a beta key and 10 dollars worth of item shop credit. (The game is F2P with cosmetic/convenience cash shop). All of the people in Path of Exile who have also played Diablo3 say that POE is far superior and is the true Diablo 2 successor. Pretty sad that another company can make Diablo 3 better then Blizzard can.... |

Oh yeah... Such a terrible game. No.... Its a great game! Just because you have never played a single Diablo game and judge it off beta play on one of the later versions of the game doesn't mean you can judge it very much lol. I've played Diablo my whole childhood, And what I can see from D2, this is a huge step up. Of course the story isn't going to change, Monsters will be the same, and gameplay will be similar... but thats exactly the point to a series. It's all about the experience. So "Pretty Much the Worst of What Everyone Was Expecting " is so not true. I can't wait May 15th to get a group of friends to group up with me to play some D3. ( And hopefully, D3 will be better ONLINE. Thats probably the only flaw to the Diablo series.)
So, Sorry to all the WoW players for something a little different. |

Path of Exile is very good actually. Should give it a go. As for D3 I have several friends and family that are buying it. If nothing else its worth the price just to get some co op with them. I have played the D3 beta and do not agree with many of your points. If you dont like it dont buy it. Play Path of Exile and TL2. I think they may be a bit more of what you want. =) Oh and take a look at Grim Dawn. |

Originally posted by gostly It's interesting how Blizzard was the indie developer back when they made good games. Yeah, they were big when they made Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2. But they still had the indie mentality. That time period is obviously in the past. |

Thank you, OP. Between you and the other beta reviews I've seen and read, I am convinced to NOT buy this game. Pity too, as I had a Gamestop gift card I was planning on spending. Best to save it for something else me thinks. Again....thank you. President of The Marvelously Meowhead Fan Club |

Latency is not a valid argument on any beta game, and it is highly likely beta servers are in the US, so 200 ms is pretty standard from EU to US. Anyway, can anyone comment on how the feel of the game is .. is it dark and sinister ? I fear the answer :) |

I like the beta so far and I'm going to get the game, I think it's really good. Not everyone has to enjoy it, and not everyone ever will enjoy one game. There will always be people who dislike it or have issues with it. |

Originally posted by dadante666 Hmmm, well maybe I'm different but I've played through D2 several times most recently about 7 months ago and the game is pretty much exactly like D1 and 2. Are their differences, sure but it is most definitely a Diablo game. I'm really not sure what these "fans" expected. The game was a hack and slash, it is still very much a hack and slash. Plays very smooth and loot flys at you from everywhere...just like one and two...it is dark, dungeons are laid out nicely and for anyone talking about the difficulty last time I check the only thing you get to play is ACT1 up to the Skeleton King and ONLY on NORMAL mode...if any of you have ever played D1 or D2 on normal you would know that it was also VERY easy. Not really sure what most people are talking about with this comment but that is just my opinion. In fact my only complaint about the game, really, is that its toooo much like D2 and they should have done more to separate it rather than reskinning D2. For what its worth I have loved what I have been able to play.

To the OP, in the words of Zach Ryder, "Are you serious, bro?"
I just finished my first play-through on the D3 beta and I had an absolute blast and from what I've played so far, I would highly recommend the game to all my friends. We'll see what the final product is like but from this D2 veteran. I liked the game a whole lot. |

Originally posted by Aori I love the graphics, as well. There are a variety of reasons why I'm sure Blizzard went in this direction. First, it looks great. My opinion but I happen to think I'm right. It's also easier on PC system requirements. We saw this with World of Warcraft that it's less intensive on the PC and that allows more peope to play the game, even on low-mid range systems. Lastly, I think "cartoony" graphics age better than "realistic" graphics. I still think after 7 years, WoW looks pretty incredible and that's largely because they decided to take their game in this direction. Like I said, I'm already a huge fan of the game. Excited for the 15th of May. |
