I will be playing Diablo III on release May 15th. I have been thinking about the game a lot since I started reading/seeing it and am anxious to kill stuff (in game of course). My question is, is it worth $20 to get Diablo II to quench the thirst? The last few nights I decided to play Skyrim which has been okay.

So I can afford $20 no problem but with the release around the corner is it worth playing D2 still?

I jumped back in to D2 a few months ago in preparatin for D3. It's still fun, but it's not aging as well as one might hope.

     I would recommend Path of Exiles. It is alot like D2 with updated (but still very dark) graphics. And it will only cost you a $10 donation to get into closed beta for it which is going on right now. I only learned about the game a week ago and im really enjoying it.

I would also suggest Path of Exile. It's a fantastic dungeon crawler (even though you can only play about half of the content currently) but a great game nonethless.

As far as Diablo 2, $20 may be a bit much for how dated it is. Don't get me wrong, D2 is still an awesome game, but something about being stuck at 800x600 resolution - unless you get the mod that allows you to play at 1920x1080 (but then you won't be able to play on Battle.net...not that you'd really want to anyways.)

Diablo 2 is still the great game that it was. Even playing single player only I have a blast running up new characters and trying different  builds.

If you don't already own a copy, it's still worth buying IMO.

Very much so, D2 is a great game, I still play it from time to time and it's been 12 years since classic was released, and when I'm bored of D3 ( all classes to 60 + Inferno ;> ) I'll play some D2 again, expecialy since it'll be on the Soul Stone USB drive I get with CE =o

Diablo II will always be worth it for me the best game ever made on its genre.

Play with a friend on lan and you will have hours of fun :P 

It's fun, and worth it. But at the same time I can't stand looking at 800x600 on a big monitor. It just looks horrid.

D2 was a great game for it's time, but it's time has passed.  Those ancient sprites are just too hard to look at these days for me.
