Why not just give beta keys away to everyone interested.  I'm sick of beta contests or begging for a key.  If you want me to respect the game, then show me what you have, freely?  This goes for dev companies in general.

I Agree to this. I almost sign into every MMO beta and almost never get a beta key only in rare occasions.

Sounds like a fantastic idea, if the purpose of a beta was in fact to "show you what they got"...

Something doesnt feel right about this game.

Theres hardly any interest in it for a game thats already starting the beta process...

Does anyone know anything about the game actually?

There are reasons for non hype.... First off there is very little publicity behind this game so very few know about it. Second... The publisher is gamigo, they have a bad track record of not supporting there games and letting them die. See black prophecy for more info.... and there is one more game they screwed over as well but the name slips my memory atm

Yeah Black Prophecy was a bit botched from the beginning .. premature hype was most noticible by myself.  When the beta did actually come out, there was a bit of a gap since the initial hype.  There didn't seem to be as much publicity (or I missed it), and even then, the beta was only available in some areas.  The game launched and I didn't even know it was out - I only found out when it was in the news that it was being shut down.  There were some bad reviews, but I never got to try it personally.

I guess the lesson here is to save major press releases for when there is actually a game to hype with 3rd party previews, not before.

So, I guess if Otherland wants to lie low, it might not be a bad idea.  Rift's new housing/world creater is going to compete heavily with the MyLand simulator in this game as well, so I guess Gamigo better do it right the 1st time around.

Market trends say that, yes, the purpose of betas are to show you what they got early.  Some companies even have the gall to charge for beta in some way or other, or require a preorder.  Or at least that is how it is for many of the big wig companies.  If you believe preordering guarantees quality testers than you are well within their corporate game.

Officially though, by the books, betas are purely to test the game and fix bugs.. yup, okie doke.

Either way, for a game like this, based on a popular IP, to have zero hype behind it as it moves into beta is a very disturbing sign.

I do understand gamingo is a horrible company to publish the game, which leads me to belive that theres some serious problems with the game if they had to go with gamingo to publish.

Also it just seems like a total lack of information on this game, i really dont know what this game is going to be like, how its going to play...what the catch is with this one, other than using the OL lore.

Even if there is an NDA right now...doesnt even seem like anyones interested in getting into the beta ect..

Something isnt right with this one i fear.
