Defiance is not a game, but a marketing experiment....   thank you to all that are participating!

I am not into FPS games and their ilk, but wanted to give this a shot (no pun intended) since it was 3rd person. I really liked the idea of the TV show tie in and really hoped somehow it would sweep me off my feet enough to buy and be swayed away from just playing swords&sorcery games. Sadly I won't be. I didn't even bother giving beta test feedback because I didn't think mine would be appropriate to the game development, unless they were going to scrap it and make something completely different.

If it were F2P I might have given it another chance once the show started and the hype built up, just to be absolutely sure I could not get into it, but I just don't see myself paying for it at all. However I tried Warframe and I liked the sword/gun combo and the feel was what I was hoping for in Defiance. I was able to just jump into the game without a long tutorial or too many buttons to push, and little ammo to use. Since that one is F2P I would more likely go back to that or just play PlanetSide 2 if I wanted something along those lines.

I really do hope the game takes off well and that the TV show tie in prompts more game devs to do the same thing, preferably next one a fantasy game for my sake. Looking forward to the show

I'd like to point out again that the game is completely free to play from the get-go. The company will release dlcs from time to time to expand the world, but you won't have to buy them if you don't want to. You will always be able to play what you've payed for at the release. If you like one dlc and you don't like other, you can buy the one you like and nothing else.

I've already bought it on Steam. I'm going to enjoy myself as hell. I recommend this amazing game to everyone that like shooters, mmos in general, and to the lovers of driving like in the game Motorstorm.

Incorrect. Regardless of someones choice to purchase dlcs or not all dlc will be available to play for anyone who buys the game they just won't have access to the new items, gear, vehicles etc.

IMO it's a good game with potential upside... keyword being "Potential."  Realistically this game is not for everyone and statistically speaking what game ever is?  That said, i'll be playing it from day one.

I had posted this in the general forums but some mod thought it belonged in the Defiance forums.  I wanted to know what the general MMO population thought of it not just Defiance fans.  Oh well.

The world map is huge but it also makes the world seem empty at times. Story is ok, lots of things are built around small group gameplay. If you solo, you might find a few missions that end up being too much to handle. Just seems too mediocre for $60...better games coming out next month that I'd rather spend money on...maybe when steam has its summer sale it might become a bit more tempting...

100% spot on.

Just because something is free, doesn't automatically make it worth downloading.  Passing on this.

Enjoyed the beta a lot. Tons of weapons, plenty of loot, not a horrible story (though it's based on the tv show I'm assuming and those tend to be better in terms of engaging someone), like the fact that there are mini cutscenes and voice acting for almost everything even if it may not be the greatest in the world (it's certainly not bad) so it makes the pacing pretty nice with a few small breaks between action.

Unfortunately though I'm not willing to spend 60 dollars on a PC game much less a digital download, but even if it was the typical 50 dollars I still can't justify spending that much money on it at this point in time so I voted that I wont be playing it, although I want to. I will definitely be watching the tv show though.

It's not really a bad game, riding on a quad bike through the post apocalyptic wasteland and blowing mutant brains out with a large variety of weapons is fun. For a while.

Unfortunately the gameplay is rather shallow and as a stand alone MMO the game in its current state doesn't really cut it in today's way oversaturated market. We'll see how the tie in with the show actually works. A couple months in at reduced price I just might buy it afterall, not now though.

I think a lot of people will regret not having bought the game at the beginning when you get goodies you won't be able to get later and get in the world before the series comes out and makes everybody want to play it.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results.

There are 3 different polls on this already why do folks keep posting the same thread, and the same poll.

The general consensus doesn't seem to be that great on this or other sites, but I'm not sure what that has to do with your decision.  I just don't want to pay 60 bucks for something that looks so shallow and may not last me a month.  I made that mistake with Skyrim (not saying Skryim is shallow, just to be clear, just that it didn't last long).

General consensus on it?

[mod edit] A shooter with very light mmo features, very little progression, small world. Nothing to keep players busy past the first week.

Rushed to meet the release deadline of the show.

This is my opinion. As it is not all sunshine and fairies, i expect that a mod will delete my post and warn me for some stupid reason or another, after all, they don't want to upset the guys who pay their advert bills.

There is general consensus now on mmorpg.com?

Lol.

Some will like it, some will hate it, and some will be somewhere inbetween - just like any other game.

I'll be playing it on Tuesday - can't wait for new blood..err players hehe.

I have about 320 hours played on Defiance Alpha at this point and still having fun, but all of us are different.

It's gonna be awesome once new players get to see the SanFran bridge entrance - hehe that first time is a fun experience LOL.

To get a general opinion of what mmo gamers think of a game, take what most of mmorpg.com forum posters think, reverse it and there you have it. The rule is, the more hated and trolled the game is on these forums, the more popular it is/will be.
