Hello, it´s a sandbox in a dark modern day setting.

It´s a sandbox themepark hybrid with death and you can rule a city as vampire prince - how cool is that?

Yeah, its a very fun concept. There isn't a ton of games out there where you can play as a vampire, the only one that I have played was Forsaken and that wasn't an exact vampire class per say. I am hoping they really brainstorm this idea and come out with a great MMO that is NOTHING like eve. If it is anything close to EVE I fear they may go down the line of a niche market again.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I'm pretty sure that they will use some concepts from EVE. They'd be crazy not to go with the single shard model, for instance. since they have a huge technical lead in that area, why wouldn't they want to leverage it, especially in a game that's based on social and political interaction? It would be a huge selling point.

I'm 99.9% sure that they've already said that they intend to go down the player generated content route again as well, rather than make Generic PvE Grinder #8,419 (Now With Vampire Skins!). WoD is about interacting with other players; the PvE will almost certainly be about resources, not about pimping your gearscore.

We know very little because there is nothing to really talk about, the game is in pre-production. They mentioned they have something along the lines of 70 people currently working on what I assume are the assets and engines. They were able to show off a basic building with some working features in place, however this was very early engine work. They however wanted to show something, as to not let the fan base (or in this case the media) down. Hence why there was no filming allowed, it wasn't indicative of a final product.

I for one, played the WoD as a youth. I have all the new and old books. I'm assuming the game is based on the revised V;tm setting. WoD... hence the name. I adore it. Like others before me have said, because this is CCP who make Eve. As long as they make it in the same mind set as EvE I will be happy. It will not be another cookie cutter MMO. The concepts of the game we know so far are enough to make me excited for the game.

I just hope other people won't push this game out of mind for fickle reasons :< If you don't wish to get too excited that's fine, but don't just automatically put it down. If for no other reason than we really do know so very little right now I've seen kickstarters succeed based on nothing more than concepts!

I would love to see more single shard games too. I just don't like the game design choice of how the skills are aquired in Eve. I hope they do not go that route, where you see a huge difference in power due to the skill time sync. You will never be able to compete against someone in EVE if they have been there longer then you. I want them to make it more balanced so new players are not overwhelemed by farmers or veterans.

You fear that it will be "something close to EVE" ?

Of course it will be !

Why would CCP stray from the one thing they are exceptionally good at: targeting and servicing a specific niche in the market ?

That little niche game called EVE-Online provided CCP with enough revenue to not only continue to develop and expand the EVE universe, but to also fund development of a whole new game (WoD). And they didn't even need a Kickstarter campaign to help them along...

I think they can do much better, that is the only reason I hope they don't take too much from Eve. Eve has a niche market but it also alienates a huge portion of possible gamers.

The evil part of me wants to see it revealed as a PvE thenepark just to watch people's heads explode from nerdrage.

The good part of me wants a fun ,truly horror MMORPG of any kind.

You mean games like TERA, STWOR, Rift or the other MMOs that were released recently, and already gone F2P because they tried to reach that "huge portion" of gamers?

Besides, the niche market is far more loyal, more likly to stick around. That "huge portion" of gamers you talk about, are the kind that play every new game that comes out, for about a month, cry about how you blew thru the content so fast, then moved on to the next game..... rinse repeat... over and over again..

No thanks, I'll wait for the niche game.  :)

oh look everyone already forgot all drama about ccp from year or two ago, when they almost went bankrupt because eve online wasnt keeping the affloat, that they introduced cash shop to the game with items costing 50$, and goverment had to support them  and they needed investors

so which niche game of theirs had enough revenue to suppot company and new game, because it wasnt eve online, people have very short memory it seems, one year biggest consumer enemy, next best friend

EVE has been around for how many years?

Anyway, cry all you want, but WoD will not be a game for the masses. Move along.

"A very special kind of stupidity"

4/28/13 10:35:43 PM#40

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-04-27-shining-a-light-on-ccps-world-of-darkness

"This is our first real glimpse of World of Darkness in action - but to be clear, it's also not. Not quite. Even now, what looks like game footage is simply a 'visual target' that mixes in-game assets with a bit of post-production like the splattering of rain on the camera. It premiered at this year's Eve FanFest, with CCP staff watching for the tell-tale glimmer of cameraphones in the dark, and if you do find a copy online, someone has been very naughty indeed.

Still, it's exciting stuff, not because of the faked-up pixels so much as the general style of game they show - an approach to character movement closer to Assassins Creed parkour than regular MMO stomping around, predatory vampires who confidently rule the shadows rather than just wandering thugs who happen to have fangs, and a city whose aesthetic mood comes as much from detail like water dripping down buildings as the lack of sun. For the overall look, think a modernised Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - though much more advanced - with the demo actually using its music. It's dark, it looks right, and nothing it was doing seemed implausible.

Just don't expect to see much more in the near future. I cornered executive producer Chris McDonough, World of Darkness' Executive Producer to try and get a few extra details, with most specific questions met with a variant on "We're not ready to talk about that yet" - how the politics are going to work for instance, the PvE questing, specific implementations of social features like having a player Prince and whether there'll be vampire generations to deal with. In most cases, this doesn't appear to be caginess so much as things simply not having been locked down tightly enough to commit to, with almost as much frustration on both sides of the table. Almost. Not quite.

...

In short, we're not looking at a fixed personal quest type structure - and hurrah for that. One example of how this works is that while World of Darkness is focusing on vampires for launch (other White Wolf characters hopefully coming in due course) everyone starts out as a human. To become a vampire, you first have to be Embraced by another player, with their clan presumably having major effects. You can try to stay a mortal rather than become Kindred, though it won't be easy, and there won't be much content. At least, not for a good few years, when hunters might join werewolves and whatever other new additions CCP makes from the sourcebooks.
...

Like Eve, World of Darkness is due to be a single world, its scale and specific locations both still 'no comment' territory. Cities will be huge and seamless, though it'll be possible to get around faster using subways. The procedural texturing allows for things like city districts to shift look depending on ownership, though that might not actually make it into the game at launch - cool as it could be. Vampires will be able to travel between locations, though there may be some restrictions, such as a train between LA and New York (hypothetical examples) only running at noon (ditto), to prevent a brood magically racing in from around the world to help out in a mere street fight."

Take from this what you will. I highlighted the points of particular interest to me.
