atm there are 25 swg servers/galaxies and a test server. Are these merged servers, like EQ1 had about 45 merged down to about 23 servers and a test server. EQ2 seems to have 31 and a test server, ten of which seem to be merged servers.
This implies EQ2 has the most population playing while swg is second and EQ the lowest populations. In contrast it seemed EQ had more people / subscribers than swg + EQ2 combined, yet Eq has the fewest servers? link2

links and opinions (there is a difference between opinions and verifiable evidence) in response are appreciated, esp from long time subscribers.

btw EQ gets a new server end of June "Combine" a PvE classic not classic progressive/regressive server (12 expansions opened on a 2 yr timer.)

Other than the Japanese servers which were totally seperate along, none of the SWG servers have ever been closed or merged.  When SWG Japan shut down, those players were given the option to migrate to one of the regular SWG servers, if they wanted to, but it was never a true merger.

As for populations, you can check out http://mmorpgchart.com/ , but who knows how accurate it is.  My guess is that the numbers for SWG are siginificantly inflated, but its hard to say for sure.  I don't know anything about EQ/EQ2.
