SWG only had well over 200k subs at its peak, before the NGE. My best guess is in the neighborhood of 20-30k subs in its final days before they announced it being pulled. Currently playing: the occasional FPS |

I like both.
8 year SWG vet from day 1 to the final day it had its time it was great it fit my lifestyle.
During those 8 years I got married had 2 kids advanced in my career meaning a bit more hours and responsibility.
I went from loads of time to little time and SWG was still fairly time intensive, swtor came at the right time in my life so for me the whole SW MMO journey has worked out well.
I'm sure for many other it hasnt and people are still bitter etc but all I can say is take each for what they are, enjoy the memories of the greatest MMO there will ever be IMO but at the same time enjoy this new more casual experience that SWTOR offers. |

Originally posted by Onomas ROFL swg had nowhere NEAR 200k players at the end. It closer to 2000...maybe. At its peak before pre-cu it had around 350k. Rose coloured glasses are all well and good but at least make it plausable. And BTW, please provide ANY proof that LA "Killed" swg. All there is to that is speculation and butt hurt nge leftovers claiming it as fact. The God Emperor of soe himself, John Smedley, said that the reason they shut down swg was because they decided it wasn't financially viable to renew the Star Wars liscence again. Maybe the price to renew jumped because of SWTOR, maybe LA would give soe a little extra money if they decided to end the game before SWTOR was released but the FACT is that soe made the decision, not LA. Find any proof to the contrary and I'll eat my words. OH MY GOD WE'RE SURROUNDED! SEND FOR BACKUP! DIG IN DEFENSIVE POSITIONS! MAN YOUR NECKBEARDS!!! I'll pre order you SWTOR if you let me put my lightsaber in your sarlaac cave. |

SWG > SWTOR, LOTRO > SWTOR, STO > SWTOR. Above is hopefully subject to change |

Originally posted by bunnyhopper 3 people would not have made 4 full servers, and then some Vanguard only has 2 servers, and they are both empty, and they were still empty when the free 45 days came. That MMO was dead, SWG was far from it. There is no denial, these are facts SWG only had 1 full in April before the free CTS - Starsider, and when the free CTS came they locked it to free transfers. In June 2 more servers (Farstar and Chilastra) became full and they locked them to transfers too, as were full. Servers were increasing in population. This is fact and no denial at all. Servers could have dropped again after the free 45 days, but the fact they announced the closure before people had a chance to sub, then that means they did not care, but I would like to think that loads of people were playing it because they wanted to, as were able to play on a server of their choice instead of trapped on a dead server, and if they hated it then would not waste their time with it. Also the 45 days were carrying on until the end of Aug, so could have even picked up more players. The closure announcement stopped SWGs growth instantly SWG was closed because of a licence agreement, and could not operate alongside SWTOR.

I consistantly reminded myself during BETA that it wasn't SW:G and to not compare 2 different games.

I started SWG Jan 2004, So exactly 7 years ago, when i was 19. At the time, i was at Uni (WoW hit in 2006 in my final year, guess what happened to my dissertation...i actually did it on MMORPGs...my course was IT/Business...pmsl). I had so much time then and i liked SWG in that you could log for a little bit and do something, nothing took a long time afaik, as there was no content to grind through, so you got out whatever you put in. Since then i have had a kid, got a house, split up, got another place, changed jobs 5 times, etc, etc. And all these new MMOs coming out require me to have no social life. I'm a very social person and i require that in game. Give me a MMO like SWG where i could talk and play with intelligent adults, that's all i ask. EvE is closest at the moment, but my job is playing with figures, client orders and spreadsheets, i don't need that after work too.

Originally posted by DeaconX This. Deacon nailed it. SW is to massive and diverse for one style of game. It needs multiple styles and that is what people can't seem to crack the code on.
Oh and by the way, heres a hint 3 FACTIONS! Smugglers and Bounty Hunters go where the credits are, they don't care about your silly war.
+2 Deacon. -Hate |

3 factions, i like that. Rebel, Empire, Mercenary. Maybe even four with: Citizen or Traveller, with merchant skill trees like before, i.e. the people not blowing crap up. End of the day, the game writes itself, it's just people cannot be arsed to do it now. Why make a special meal, when you can throw all the crap you have in the fridge on a piece of bread and call it a pizza. And pizzas sell for the same as meals.
