ToR 'had' an absolutely brilliant crafting system during beta that was unfortunately gutted about a month before launch. I am guessing because the CEO's 4 year old couldn't figure out that barrels and triggers go on guns and not on a pair of pants. There was also a lot more customization available in the number of modable equipment items as well as in character creation. I was in beta since phase one closed and watched as more and more of the 'unique' and interesting elements were removed. By the last huge set of changes right before launch I knew that ToR was no longer the game I had waited years to play and cancelled my pre-order. It is a bad game now? No, I cannot say that. Millions of people are playing it happily and for them it is an amazing game. I was just sorry to see so much of its potential hit the cutting room floor. |

Always remember that you're unique. Just like everyone else. |

Originally posted by DerWotan You forgot player housing - that's #1 IMO. But sadly, every system you mention was from the ORIGINAL game. By the end though, anyone could craft capped gear, everyone could be a Jedi and there were no more skills. SOE destroyed the game.

Originally posted by ktanner3 Ah, well. TOR looks like the typical advance your character by completeing quest upon quest to me. Obviously I have not played it, nor do I care to. But i'm curious, what makes TOR different for you than EVE, SWG, WOW and Warhammer?
Edit: EVE is obvious. I'm curious about the other 3. |

Watching the biodrones try to defend TOR is cute. |

Serious comparing SWG to SWTOR is like comparing Shogun:Total War to Starcraft.
Bit similar but overall just diffrent TYPE of games.
One is more varied second is more streamlined.
Sandbox vs themepark.
Just very diffrent. |

Despite everything said both for and against ToR, as an avid SWG fan i can say that through all the disappointments brought about as a result of ToR being in no way, shape, or form like galaxies i must admit i'm still on the fence about trying ToR just because i miss SWG and that universe, even if i too prefer the original trilogy by leaps and bounds. In galaxies i started off as a smuggler and then became a commando. would i enjoy either of those classes in ToR? are they carbon copies of other MMO classes the way the sith lord is to a warrior from WoW? (i say that cause i saw that picture comparing their skills side by side and they were neigh identical)

The problem is that those of us that Played SW:G for extended periods of time, and have tried out ToR are going to be slightly biased on our view because of our prior experiences with a Star Wars themed MMO. Take me...
I started SW:G full time in 2004 after testing it out for a few months in 2003. I was at the Sarlaac on Starsider when the servers went down for the last time last month.
I tried ToR during the Open Beta Weekends and Clossed Beta. Its got great VO work....but its not for me. It doesn't have what I want from a Star Wars MMO......the oppurtunity to run my own game inside of the Universe..
