Im playing DCU. Now people can hate on it as much as they want thats their right but I find it refreshing. Ive followed the crowd on a few games such as WoW and rift but DCU feels totally different. I like how I dont feel that I have to invest hours of play to keep up with friends and I really enjoy the world of the game since ive been a DC fan since I was a kid. |

Actually I'm one of the many original vets from first beta to the original release of SWG. I left SWG right around when the first person unlocked their force sensitive slot. Too many nerf's to the game then the complete overhaul of it ruined it for good.
I wondered around many mmo's since then but find that the mmorpg genre is dying as many other gamers have come to realize themselves.
The new direction nowadays are games that offer co-op not the usual BS mmo cr@p. This is the new rising trend for most gamers that have had enough of mmorpg's and the genre itself. |

I really don't understand what people get out of calling themselves a "Vet" in relation with having played a video game. I guess it makes you feel more heroic? Its really weird to me. |

If I go back, it'll probably be CoH. I've played EVE. I've played EQ2. I've played Warhammer Online. I did the free trial of WoW, quit after four days, and never will touch the thing. Out of all the games I've played though, the closest to the Pre-CU feel was from CoH, and I've tried to figure out exactly why. Maybe you can all help me out. This is what I think it might be. When I played SWG, I didn't play it like a game. I played it like I used to play with action figures back when I was a kid. I'd invent plots, create playsets, imbue the characters with personalities, etc. Can't do that with EVE so well. Can't do that with WoW, EQ2, or WAR so well either. I can, however, do that with CoH. CoH allows me to do that same thing. Is the crafting as good as SWG? No, but there's some crafting. Is the player housing as good as SWG? No, but there's some player housing. Is the character customization as good as SWG? No, but there's a lot of character customization. Is the roleplay as good as in SWG? No, but there's a whole lot more roleplay going on in CoH than anywhere else right now. Does this seem to make sense? __________________________ "...when it comes to pimping EVE I have little restraints." My friends and I started swg shortly after launch and played through til the upgrades. They always liked elements of the game that I did not. Actually, it was the fact that it was based on star wars that bothered me. Moreover, often I would even forget that it was a star wars game. Then, when it rarely became obvious that it was, I remember thinking how corny it was. The upgrades made it even worse. They made it for example, if you were a smuggler : when you call up the character sheet it would show a giant picture of Han Solo in his iconic "where am I?" looking pose. CPR for the rest of the classes. Whereas before the upgrades you were left to do your own thing. I kept thinking, "Am I Han Solo?" Whereas pre-crap I was like, "This is star wars but I am my own character and as long as LA leaves me alone it will be a fun game." Before that though, the Rise of the Wookie/CreatureHandler population exploded. I hate wookies. But, wherever I went there was a Wookie that was stronger/smarter/more skilled/more pets/ and the models for them were so butter face grinning about it. I hated it. Then the Kashyyk world expansion hit... ... I can think of so many ways to avoid releasing a strictly wookie xpack. Like more space/ship classes and stuff. Mining astroids, space station repair/space walk ect.... ... But Han Solo can't be floating space walking on the side of a space station doing repairs wearing nothing but his stripe cop pants and hoth coat. They wouldn't want to mess up his iconic hair-do.

In limbo as I have been since the NGE. SWTOR was a complete and total bust for me. I bought the download, and now it looks like I will never even enter my product key and register it since I had a chance to play it in two betas and now early game access. I'm pretty much done at this point. We have no sandbox or even a decent hybrid to call home, that's for sure. I'm interested in Guild Wars 2 next year, even though it is a themepark, but even more than that I am watching The Secret World and ArchAge (sandbox, looks good on paper - don't they all?) Other than this, I feel screwed. I feel like I keep waiting for one of these companies to get it right again and create meaningful gameplay and adventuring. I can't take the spoon-fed themeparks. Ever waiting to throw my money at someone. I think it says something that at one time I was paying for three paid accounts in SWG at $45/month, yet the thought of even spending $15 on today's garbage games makes me ill. SWTOR for $60 + 15/month... don't make me laugh! G A M I N G . O N L I N E . S I N C E |1995| |

I feel bad for the players that stuck with it after the NGE fiasco as they had to deal with not only SOE's constant idiocy but the idiocy of the "vets" who never learned to just move on. I refused to stick with it because once all my friends left, there was no reason to stick with it. I never liked the system to begin with and my guild was the only reason I played it as long as I did. Once they left, I left. I will certainly never support an SOE MMO ever again. I'll be playing TOR once the box arrives in a few days. I played it in beta and really enjoyed it. Far as other MMOs go, I'm just not interested in paying a sub for a boring leveling experience, which is what most of them have. The whole "endgame is where it is at" mindset just doesn't do it for me. I MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

I started playing SWG around mid 2004, it was my sophmore year in college, and at that point I hadn't jumped on the MMORPG bandwagon. At that time the thought of paying a continuous fee to play a game still seemed crazy. I had been playing the single player offerings at that time, and I can remember feeling dissapointed with the size of the small worlds, and longing for a game that presented a larger world. So, I saw the SWG Collector's Edition in CompUSA one day, mulled it over for a couple more days, and decided to take a chance, and the rest is history as they say... I played the hell out of SWG, and even through the Combat Upgrade, but when SOE crapped out the NGE, I was done. The game that I had grown to love in many ways died. After that soccer punch, I began looking for something to replace SWG (which by the way, can never be done, SWG is too unique), and stumbled onto Eve-Online and I've been there ever since. I've don't suspect I will be leaving any time soon either considering the garbage that passes for MMORPGs these days. I've got my eye on a few MMOs, but I'm not holding my breath. GW2 is still very much a themepark, ArchAge is too Asian, the two that I think show the most promise are Pathfinder Online and maybe the Secret World. I suspect that I'll be playing SWG once again when one of the Emulator projects is released, I'm eager to relive the past and make more memories in SWG, there is still much more to experience. That's the nice thing about sandboxes... TOR on the other hand is no replacement, and just a sad waste of time and money. It's faults and shortcommings have been expounded upon ad infinitum, so I see no need to state them again. Needless to say, I won't be playing it... EVER!

I played SWG from launch till NGE, and returned now and then after that. I was; Enki, Evile, and Shohadaku on Gorath server. I also played the pilot Enki on Starsider. Iron Circle was my guild in SWG, and we moved to Juyo server on TOR. Knights of Iron is the Republic side, Iron Circle is Empire. My Sith is named Evile My Republic (inactive atm due to using my sith) is Enki.

Still doing my same-old, same-old: SOE Station Pass (whatever they call it now), so I can dip in and out of EQ, EQ2, Vanguard. Maybe I could try Planetside for a change. Or EQOA if I cared to scare up an old PS2. I still have a CoH sub, and played that a couple times this week. WOW has a 20-level freebie, but that's pretty boring. AoC has a freebie too, tho I have nothing high enough to hit the free-to-play/pay-to-win divide. On the single-player side, I recently played thru "The Longest Journey" again (great game), and "Dreamfall". Come on, Funcom! That series has been a dangling cliff-hanger since SWG hit the fan! For total retro, I picked up and started "Fallout", with "Fallout 2" when I finish it. I was about a third of the way thru "Tron 2.0" before I rebuilt my system (but kept my saved games so I wouldn't have to start over). And I'm still several "Tomb Raider" games behind the present. Starting with SWG, online gaming really sucked up all my available gaming time. |

Originally posted by Bob_Blawblaw I played SWG(on starsider mostly) right after the NGE hit. on and off for years. missed pre-cu, and didn't even know about mmo's before then. sad to see it die. I've played EVE. I tried TOR. grinded an imperial agent high enough to get the most beautiful ship in TOR, the phantom. turns out, it's only beautiful while docked. the space game in TOR is so fucked up, the phantom looks like a purple pancake when you actually fly it, and the space mini-game itself isn't even starfox; it's starfox's asshole. my Z-95 starter ship in SWG was better. I tried entropia. good game, if you like a virtual casino, and you enjoy spending lots of money, because that shit ISN'T FREE. their space game doesn't truly exist yet. kinda bare bones. some ships, even caps, but the whole thing lacks, big-time. they say a space expansion is coming; we'll see ^^ I don't know where to go from here, but I'm sticking to what I said on this forum last year: If I see one more fucking elf, I'll go on a jihad. I mean it. |

SWTOR until I hit 50 and a little beyond but its pretty much a let down as I expected it to be.
Have a toe in LOTRO but their annoucement of another expansion with 10 more levels means more grind, grind, grind.
Maybe I'll go read a good book. |
