Hi, I read about on the official website and it sounds like an intersting game but i also read on the forums that it might not stick around for much longer. So my question is Is it a good time to start SWG ?

thnx.

If you're worried about SWG being closed tommorrow, go ahead and subscribe.  If you're worried about SWG being fun and polished, stay far, far away.  The game is unlikely to close down within the next year or so, but it is horrible and unfun, so no, you shouldn't start playing it.

You won't know for yourself how awful the game really is until you witness it yourself, so by all means, if the game interests you, try the trial.  Just make sure you make it past the newbie space station, as that is the highpoint of the current game and things are down hill from there, at a very steep pace.

If you want to have fun in galaxies it's pretty much essential to be a social person , or at least get sponsered in a guild. The community is what really makes the game , SO it's also essential to pick an active server for your timezone.Don't expect to see many people after primetime hours , Since the community is old , They all have a schedule set by now . On weekends I hear it's a little more active later into the night . If you like directed content the game is going to probably be a dissappointment , If you like community run events and socializing you should be ok.

For every minute You are angry , You lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson

If you like games with decent core game mechanics, you'll be very disappointed.  If you want a chat room with a Star Wars skin, by all means, subscribe to SWG.  If you want a decent MMO using the Star Wars IP, you're out of luck, there isn't one currently available.  Hopefully BioWare will make a decent one, but the only thing SWG has going for it is the Star Wars IP.  The gameplay is horrible.

WoW has low level players all over the place.

CoH-CoV has a number of them.

EVE has low level players.

Those are just some of the older games I have played lately.  In the case of SWG, which I have played recently, you don't see many low level players at all.  On Bloodfin, I did encounter 1 total noob to SWG, he was using Station Pass, or so he said, and was trying a number of games out.

I encountered several low level players that were re-rolling toons from my old server of Lowca to the more populated Bloodfin.

The difference between SWG and the other existing successful MMO games is that the other games are bringing in new players, SWG is not, and when it does is not able to sustain the subscriptions.  The low levels you see are likely toons being re-rolled from empty servers.  Those are NOT new players, they are new toons.  There is a big difference.

I am curious to see if you have even played any other MMOs.

On a daily basis, I get in-game mails and tells from people looking to buy armour (and now weapons) that are quite clearly new to the game and are looking for info on what's available to them for their level/profession.

How exactly can you tell they are new to the game as opposed to someone who is on a trial and may not have played in 2+ years? I would think that someone who hasn't played in so long would definetely have questions regarding armour and weapons. I know I would have.

I simply do not believe you Obraik, and I apologize for that.  Your forum record indicates that you will say almost anything in defense of SWG.  Please do not act like we do not log on and use our Vet Trials.  I have seen first hand what the servers look like.

Just the way they ask the questions I guess...the armour system hasn't changed since the CU went Live so they would have had to have been away from the game for some time.

Well, I think that could be a reason why then because armour has changed significantly since pre-CU. I'd bet that a lot of the people asking are simply on a vet trial and haven't really played since pre-CU.

Another thing to consider is how else would noobs be able to afford armour if they are new? Many of these people have probably been sitting on millions of credits for several years and are able to afford it. Also if they're running quests as noobs they'll be given reasonable armour anyway and will likely understand armour by the time they're ready to upgrade.

Well, I don't just sell high end armour, I do make suits that are suitable for the people newer to the game (250k for an unlayered suit - an amount they should have by the time they get to lvl 22 from the Legacy).  It's not uncommon to have people asking "entry level" questions, find out the different costs of armour and then let me know they'll be a few days while they work up the credits to afford the armour that they're wanting. Of course, there's also some that expect me to lower my top end armour prices down to their entry level budget...

You'd bet that a lot are simply on a vet trial, because anything else would just not agree with your worldview. You people find it IMPOSSIBLE that people might actually PLAY and ENJOY the game, simply because YOU don't.

lol

I thought I gave a very rational alternative to Obraik's claims, and the best you can do is claim that it just doesn't fit my worldview?

Try proving my theory wrong instead of simply disagreeing with me and attacking me with accusations.

We all know that the fanbois have no defense.  You cannot defend what is beyond rational defense.  Their only method of debating is calling us who want SWG to be better and enjoyable "crazy" or "haters" or "jaded"...  Among many other things.

When all it takes is 1 little log on to the servers to prove almost everything we say right and everything they say wrong.

What's crazy is that this goes on in nearly every forum I've been to.  Fanbois will go out of their way to defend games and companies using information that is so absurd it makes you really question their intentions.

It's compelling to watch.  A very strange affliction.
