I dont care about all the hate this games receive here, I just want to tell anyone interested in the game, that you should try it for yourself, I did and I am glad.

Not the best game I've ever played, but a good game to play, thats for sure.

The graphics are dated (5 years old), but still way ahead of most MMORPG (Lotro and AoC are the top art here as far as I know)

Population is healthy in at least 5 servers (I have toons in Bria, Starsider, Bloodfin, Chimaera and Ahazi and at least here I can confirm that theres way more people that you might think by reading this forums

Playing on the planets and going into space is something unique and very cool, and SWG is the ONLY MMORPG that offers that.

Try it and see for yourself.

What he means is TRY THE FREE TRIAL.  Don't spend a dime on this thing until you have.  And when he means healthy population he is talking a not like WoW, AoC, EVE, or most others, he is talking between 50 - 100 people online at one time at most...

Not hating just warning.  TRY THE FREE TRIAL.

Yes, What I mean for trying is exactly the free trial.

As for your examples...

Eve only has 1 server.......

Wow is in fact the CASH COW, but at least I want something different than WoW

AOC... let the first months pass..... I played it and quit before my 1st month was over....

Not Hating, Just warning

There are more then 50-100 people online at one time on my server (Eclipse) and its a VERY LIGHT server.

The more poplular servers that the OP mentioned range from a status of medium - heavy. Depending on the time of day. From what I've seen with my own eyes is that the populations on Bria, Bloodfin etc are comparable to CU. Infact my server (Eclipse) pre-cu stayed around the Medium status. From what I can see those popualr servers are as busy as what Eclipse was back in 2004.

There are alot of servers that seem to be dead and the over all population of the game across every server combined is smaller then Pre-CU / CU.

My advice to any new player is to play on any of the servers with a medium -  heavy status. You will enjoy a pre-cu / CU population. I would like to play on those server but $50 for a toon transfer is over priced and Eclipse is my home :)

---------------------------------------
SWG - Eclipse - Ecniv Clarke Elder Jedi(Inactive)
WoW - Zenedar EU - Veeman 75 Paladin(Active)
WAR - Karak Eight Peaks EU - Ecniv Rank 25 Black Orc (Canceled got bored)

Playing - WoW

Played - WAR, EQ2, Vanguard, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, CoV, Eve, Guild Wars, Planetside.

Tried - Potbs, Matrix Online, Planetside, Knight Online, AO, DAOC, Archlord, Saga of Ryzom, UO,

Loved - Star Wars Galaxies Pre-CU

Not even close to Pre-cu or Cu tbh , Sure there are more than 100 people but how much more is questionable .  On Bloodfin rumored as the second highest populated server , You mind find close to 50-60 people around Eisley at peak , another 30 or so around restuss. But other than that you really won't find a substantial amount of players.

Thank the real SWG vets for keeping other games from getting the NGE treatment.

Even the most populated servers don't come close to pre-CU populations. The horrible combat system would lag out completely if there were that many people on.

i played it a while back.  i saw about 50-100 people whenever i logged on, however half of them were bots or AFK.  as for the quests.  some are great (really decent story and gameplay) and others are just plain crap (kill X amount of X  or travel XXXXm to pick up item X then travel XXXXm back).  aside from that the game is decent

When I say that the population is healthy, I dont mean its like it used to be, I just mean that at least the servers I mentioned are not Ghost towns.

And I have seen much more than 50-100 persons online.

This is posted in SWG forums as attendencies for a recent event:

Starsider - 766
FarStar - 749
Chimaera - 734
Bloodfin - 699
Bria - 568
Gorath - 498
Chilastra - 478
Ahazi - 469
Flurry - 422
Radiant - 415
Tempset - 377
Lowca - 336
Eclipse - 334
Intrepid - 332
Wanderhome - 323
Sunrunner - 305
Infinity - 302
Scylla - 297
Corbantis - 293
Shadowfire - 279
Valcyn - 247
Naritus - 233
Tarquinas - 221
TCPrime - 152
Kauri - 151
Kettemoor - 151

As you all can see its better than 50-100 persons, even in the "very light" servers.

I also played pre-cu so I know how the game was, but this is not that game anymore, so we can only adapt to the changes and enjoy the game for what it is, or move along to other games.

AOC or LOTRO are in my opinion not superior to SWG in many aspects and we are talking about recent games, SWG is 5 years old (NGE is 3 I think).

The Devs are indeed making the game better, if I and lots of people playing like the way some things are, many wont, so its just as any other MMORPG out there.

As I said before, try it (THE FREE TRIAL) and take your own conclusion as if the game is worth playing or not.

Yes, certainly don't pay to play SWG until you have tried it.  SOE charges too much for it per month, they charge too much for server transfer, and the game is substandard in so many areas, always use the Free Trials and Vet Trials to play this game.

You'll notice that he invited the other poster to go to that forum to discuss the old game. Your attempt at trolling is what doesn't belong...

  I'll give SWG this:

Its the only MMO with space combat.  So far as I am aware, its space combat was not touched with the NGE.  Granted, it was never expanded like it should have been.  It was, however, the prime reason I played (once it came along).  If you want to enjoy a good sci-fi space shooter with RPG elements...there really is no other game TO play.  EVE isn't a shooter, really.  Full on action can never be replaced.

Like others have said, do a trial first.  Frankly, my advice is to NEVER play an older game unless you trial it first.  One never knows what state the game has come into since its peak.  In SWG...it is simply more prevalent an example than it is in others.
