You are very correct Sir.  I am not sure why the fans are so rabid because from what I remember SWG was nothing more than sub-par to begin with thus the reason for the CU.

There is a very good reason why many are "rabid"

Lots of SWG players were new to MMO's. They came to live and breath inside a virtual universe full of wonderful memories.

I was 7 years old when Star Wars opened in 1977. I'll never forget that experience for as long as I live. I am not alone in this. Thousands of us dreamed of being a simple moister farmer, a droid engineer, a rebel pilot, etc and Star Wars Galaxies gave us that dream. Yes it was buggy but dang it was still living out a dream.

People wont get our rabid love for Star Wars because simply they werent there in 1977. Catching Episode 4 12 years later on HBO isnt the same experience. Especially considering blockbuster movies became the norm along with special effects after Lucas set the bar. In 1977 it was new, stunning, breathtaking what Lucas did.

SWG was more about the ability play in a virtual world rather than any features (or bugs) for many of us. It isnt oten one gets a chance to live and breath in a dream.

And thats why we are continually disappointed with each new MMO launch. LOTRO launches and I buy the game hoping I can be a simple hobbit farm who would never touch a weapon over a pint. When I read about Stargates World I hope they allow me to play a scientist non-combat type. Its all about BEING in the world and creating my own destiny. These silly MMO's after SWG are nothing more than amusement park rides with a predetermined story.

We're angry because for once the developers got it right and made a virtual world rather than a cheesy book Im forced to read. Freedom to choose our own playstyle is what SWG gave us. And now its gone and nobody around seems willing to give us another virtual freedom playground

That is probably the best description on why SWG Vets hate SOE so much. Nicely written, and kudos on the detective work. I cant wait to hear the official word on the game, and a release date.

I just want to take this opportunity to remind the good folks here who flamed me, called me a liar, and worse that I was the one who reported this years ago.

Here was the last post of mine from another site...

http://www.rlmmo.com/viewtopic.php?t=5582

Maybe now when I report something people will give me the benefit of the doubt.

Like Ive posted before, Bioware and LA started work on the next Star Wars MMO since December 2005 (right after the NGE). They are in a race to get the MMO out to take advantage of marketing the television show.

I still recall the stinging comments when I reported that my brother-in-law scored an interview with Bioware and that he was told the MMO was star wars themed. "Oh they would never tell what the project was" type comments.

When a friend and I did some dumpster diving and found conceptual art renderings at Bioware's Austin studio I was asked to scan /post pics or I was lying. Didnt matter that I had received a letter from Bioware's inhouse Legal team threatening legal action if I showed Bioware's project online.

Anyway its now pretty much confirmed by several bitter ex-employees that Bioware's MMO is based on the Star Wars universe. LA has decided to follow many US corporations and outsource their labor to India and China so they can pay slave wages.

It will be interesting to guage what the current SWG gamers will think of this news. Anyone with an account post this over there please. Im signing up for the vet trial if its still around and gonna spread the word. Our long wait is finally almost over.

You expect us to take your word, when we don't know you from Dick or Jane, and you expect us to believe that these unofficial reports are actually from ex-employee's, who also haven't proved anything. All I see is a whole bunch of talk coming from websites, who are quoting secret sources, without actually confirming anything.

Being a skeptic is a good thing, it makes it harder to be fooled, scammed, or sold crap for example. Skeptics will require solid, unrefutable proof that a KOTOR MMORPG is being made. The only solid thing that can really prove this is an official release or those who know stuff to post undeniable facts that they know what they are talking about.

I can call up somebody and say I am an ex-Bioware employee and know for a fact that KOTOR is what they are working on and make up some stuff that would sound realistic and people would believe it from what I am reading. If I can do that, why can't others? Why believe a person who says there are a prior employee without backing it up with unrefutable evidence?

It's better to be skeptic and turn out wrong, than to believe everything that is told to you.

In many countries digging through trash is actually a criminal offense and people go to jail for it.

meh

I will wait to see the authentic information from a "legal" source.   It may be true or not true, but disgruntled employees and a guy who goes to things which where I come from are in fact Illegal I wont put too much stock into if anyone is actually telling the truth to begin with.

What I dont want is a game with one class (jedi) as for the rest like the next guy i'm waiting to see what happens.

On a side note bioware is Canadian and their trash bins are in Canada in some cases.  Its illegal in Canada to do this and something that in fact will get you landed in jail.   So just that has me doubtful..

In the United States, once trash has been put on th curb to be picked up its considered public domain. I have every right to walk right up to your trash cans in front of you and dig away and you cant do a dam thing about it.

I violated no criminal laws. Dumpster diving is perfectly legal as long as I dont trespass on private property.

No, it is not legal in all of the U.S. As I pointed out earlier, in some states, California in my case, it is illegal regardless of whether the trash is on private property or the curb. Until it hits the trash truck, it is still the original owners property and protected as such.

You found their art drawings in the TRASH! That is public property. So, please explain why you didnt actually post their stuff... Unless you were payed off or given some sort of compensation.

Once something is thrown away in the trash... The owner of said property relenquishes any such "hold" on said property.

correct me if im wrong? Im just going by what I see

You could have labelled a thread UNOFFICIAL or SUPPOSED or I THINK THIS IS... or something....and scanned the pics....given some sort of proof...or whatever... Thoughts?

It was concept art? So then the creative idea that he would be copying is still their property.  It's very common for game companies to have to threaten that sorta stuff to keep their game under wraps.

Regardless, all this waiting is pissing me off. It's time they opened their doors and let us see what's inside. Hell, we have heard about this game off and on since March of 2006....WTF PEOPLE!

I missed the original thread, but as someone who has had job interviews for MMO studios, I can definitely say that it is a situation in which such information would be divulged, but I have always had to sign an NDA upon entering the building, and I imagine your brother-in-law had to do the same. I hope he realised that he was very possibly destroying his chances by talking to you.

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin

Meh.  No such thing as "unofficial confirmation", that means the reports are clearly in the category of rumor and conjecture.

Maybe its true, maybe its not, but OP, why do you feel its necessary to be vindicated in your earlier reports?  Who cares?  You're not an investigative news reporter, heck, you don't even get paid to do it.

Let it go and have some fun in a game you enjoy, and if the next SWG MMO one day comes out, great, maybe it won't suck.

It doesnt work like that. believe me I know. Ive worked for host news sites before and they dont print any old email they receive without researching the source.

How it works...

First they'll want proof of credentials, ie copy of driver's license, W2 to show where they worked, etc. Some background info as well.

Second, any decent news site (newspaper, internet site, tv, etc) will look for multiple sources to confirm a story. News sites risk liability ith defamation type lawsuits so a second source is critical. Most wont even consider doing a story without confirmation from 2-3 more sources.

Once they have met these two criteria they will write and post the story. Oh and protecting a source applies on the web too. Any good reporter will protect a source from LA's wrath. So fear over violating any NDA isnt an issue as long as the news site doesnt reveal its source (and no court can force them to unless national security is involved).

I can guarantee you that any email sent in was checked, verified, and received multiple confirmation before its data was reported.

That right there is a big clue. Ask yourself this...why all the secrecy ???

Nobody keeps their MMO secret this long. Most in fact report the title, theme, etc before they've even secured funding for development. Bioware is 2.5 years into development (halfway+ to the finish line) and said nothing. Again, why ???

If it was a non-star wars theme MMO there would be no reason for the secrecy. However, a star wars theme MMO would spell the end of Star Wars Galaxies. That game will quickly feel pointless to its community once they finally realize the end is near. Right now they keep paying because they dont see a sunset on the horizon.
