I read on another forum site this guy heard from a source that the actual sub number was around 8k and since the problems with the server populations in SWG that LEC isnt to happy with the numbers and demanded that the Pre-CU system be put back in the game,. in which $OE's response it cant be done  so LA is supposedly this week a announcement will be made that SWG is going to be shut down, along with Planetside, and Matrix Online,  in the next 3 months. This is just a rumor I believe but knowing $OE it oculd be very well true..

For the number of times that SOE has destroyed the game I loved, even after it was very clear it was not what the majority wanted, I feel that they should start making donations to us- Paradox (SWG)

I wouldn't be surprised. Freaking stubborn bastards at SOE... If they even mentioned bringing Pre-CU back I'd resubscribe immediately.

It would be cool if it were true. Thats a new opening for a new SWG or something related to SW. But that seems like a few many sources with no links.

because I care.

You could have trolled more attention if you had only used one game instead of all of them. LEC has no control over any of SOE's titles except SWG. Also, I seriously doubt SOE is going to shut down any of its games soon. Keeping games alive through Station Pass subsidization is what they do best.

well it would be a shame as there are still people playing these games and tey do enjoy and it makes no difference to the rest of us if the games are live or dead. I am a SWG vet and would never go back to the current game, so not for me, but I know there are those who enjoy it and have put alot of time into it.

EQ is still a cash cow for SOE. It's silly to think they;d can the game honestly.

EQ still supposedly has a few hundred thousand subscribers--they aren't going to be close it down.

SWG will be closed at some point, especially as LucasArts ramps up their new Star Wars MMO.  When they close SWG is still a mystery, however.  Probably at the end of 2008 or 2009 at the latest.

I don't get them closing Matrix Online or Planetside either, because it goes completely against their Premium Subscription model for the Sony Station.  It behooves SOE to have as many games as possible, thereby giving their premium subscribers more choices.

I really doudt that LA would demand SOE go back to PRE-CU, they were the ones that demanded the change, since they saw the game as playing a farmer then fighting in the GCW.,   SOE had a good update coming out before CU, but because of the demand of LA to release the update with the Movie,  SOE was forced to drop the Engine they were working on and put an engine that they already had completed for another game, through a starwars skin on it and call it CU.   I would love to see the engine that was the sandbox completed and placed into the game.

But closing SWG now,  it would leave them open to lawsuits for all the people that are now spending money to transfere their toons to more populated servers.

If you ever watch City of Zeroes (the comics), you would know for a fact that pigs (and bacon) fly.  :P

About the topic itself, I don't think SoE will ever close EverQuest...so...shenanigans! :P

I read a post from a guys who knows the sister of a guy who is related to some other guy by marriage who happened to run into an SOE exec at lunch once.  The exec mentioned that they are working on a plan to allow character transfers between EQ1 and SWG.

That would rock!!  How cool would it be to have an elf mage running around SWG casting spells on the Jedi?

It''s one thing to have a opinion, but enforcing one is unconstitutional.

3/12/08 10:22:45 AM#21

Maybe all those other games but Not EQ1. There is a far amount of people still playing EQ1 and devoted to EQ1. EQ1 isnt going anywhere any time soon.

Dude... seriously... you HAD to know you were walking into a wall of gunfire when you posted this.  If it becomes true, people will be like 'damn, that dude really called it' but if it doesn't you're gonna look like a big fat troll arse .

Now I don't personally play ANY of those games, but I'd love if SWG shut down so a new better one could take it's place already... not through SOE...

This thread fails on so many levels....

IF he had said "SWG SHUT DOWN!"...hey, I could at least toss the notion around.  If he said "SWG AND MATRIX SHUT DOWN"...I'd still be willing to play with the ideal a little.  Even planetside....but EQ1 still brings in the dough.  Unless something major has changed in that game that I am unaware of...it still has plenty thousand fans devoted to it.

Of course, I suppose on some distant plane of thought this could all be possible.  I guess there IS a slim chance that MAYBE SOE decided to cut costs and knife most of its floundering games...I am not sure how EQ1 fits in that, but I'm no master of corporate policy either.  We had a factory in my town close down even though it made record production for the business.  It would then stand to reason that there has to be some teeny chance that other corporate holdings could do similar things given the proper mix of ingredients.

Here is my advice to the OP...

Rumors are cool.. people love anything to do with "pre-cu" and the flames that follow it around.

However, when you make the 2.0 version of this post... it should be this...

SOE pulling the plug on SWG, Planetside and MxO.

It might enter the realm of something people can really "believe" at that point.

You might want to research (as best anyone can) the subscriber numbers in EQ1.. compared to EQ2.

EQ1 isn't going away anytime soon(tm).

MxO and Planetside could at least make sense in that headline.

Being able to choose the skills you want to use, offers much less variety than pre-made class based systems.
