Ok SOE Fan Fair 2007 is over and SOE has not announced an expansion for Star wars Galaxies this year.So why would SOE do this. The core game of Star wars galaxies is polished and is ready for an expansion packs, but they did not announce this year so why?Well i think the reason why that cant announce and make an expansion pack for Star wars Galaxies has some thing to do with lucas arts. Ok we all know that the active subscriptions numbers of SWG took a big hit and went down faster then SOE would thought and the game never full recover after that day.So when that happens a mmmorpg gets shut down, but SOE/lucas arts never shut it down so why in hell didnt they shut down SWG.Well in 1Q OF 2006 lucas arts planned to make a other star wars mmorpg and started shopping around other developers and their top two were Cryptic Studios, home to MMORPG City of Heroes, and Canada-based BioWare, maker of the action RPG Jade Empire.Out of the two bioware won the talks and got the star wars rights to make a other star wars mmoprg. So where does this leave Star wars galxies and SOE.Well SOE made a deal with lucas arts to keep Star Wars Galaxies Going for two more year.Ok the deal was that they will improve the core game of galaxies and get it mostly complete and polished by 2007 and then they will rebundled SWG.The bundled maybe called Star Wars Galaxies:Complete which will inclulde all 4 expansion packs,All 1-8 Chapters, and it will come with a bonus dvd like the one they had in Star wars galaxies the complete Online Adventures and it will come with the Naboo Royal ship the one that Queen Amidala used to escape the Trade Federation blockade in Star Wars Episode 1 and will cost 30 dollars. And it will be Release on november13 2007.A other part of the deal was to get active subscriptions numbers around 500 thousand to 1million to get swg making money again. All these requirements must be complete by 2008.If they are not SWG will get shut and bioware can announce what is their new star wars mmorpg is and when beta and Release are.If they are meet then SOE can keep swg goimg for as long as their want. Where does this leave bioware well lucas arts does not know and they are not planning on soe to meet this requirement so if they are meet they dont knwo what to do with bioware and they star wars mmorpg. Ok guys SWG is not doing good here is why.Well one it has been two years and the subscriptions numbers of SWG are still low and over 3/4 of the sever are still empty.and if the subscriptions numbers of SWG was doing good then why has soe not Release the numbers yet.Two it has been two years and still no expansion pack for galaxies. There they have stop trying(at least to me) advising and making trailers for swg.And four they bundles are not selling in stores. All these facts i have sayed says why i think what i have said is happing right now. OK bioware Austion the people who are working on the mmorpg are looking for a Producer-Licensor Liaison

You want the truth? I doubt you can handle it but here goes. Stop with the conspiracy theories and look at what happened with the NGE. When it was released the player base was shattered. The ones that stayed had to face more countless bugs including old ones returning. So the general consensus of the whole community was "Fix the freaking game before you give us more expansion packs" and to this day that is still the majority vote. You might see a post or two about wanting an expansion but the majority want the game fixed first. And the developers cant afford to lose any more of the community. So the bug fix wins.

Well EQ2 is going down to one new expansion every year, rather then the two they do every year. Not only that they did have plans for an expansion pack in 2006, infact they got groups going to see what expansion players wanted, the picks where a GCW Expansion, a Light/Dark side Expansion or a lame idea where by useing an 'item' you could play a hero like Luke or Han namely you'd have a 'quest' where you would play the hero from one of the parts from Ep 1, 2, 3 and 4... The 'hero' idea was shot down right after they talked about it, some people liked the Light/Dark idea and everyone was for the GCW idea... However when asked if they wanted an Expansion or Game fixes the Players all of them wanted SOE to fix the game. So the Expansions where put on hold somewhat... Restuss however was going to be a part of this new Expansion so that went in... So really right now SOE is doing what the playerbase wants them to do, namely fix the game and bring in new content for the Player Base. The thing so far is, they still have a good amount of work to do with bug work (Mustafar is still messed up) game Balance (Smuggler needs anything, risk vs reward is slowly coming in) And a ton of other things as well, thankfuly I feel this new Dev Team are being led by people that are not 'old school' and think PvP is the big thing they should be working on. As for the whole "OMG BioWare coming out with SWG 2/KOTOR Online!!!" Who knows? Tell the truth my money is on BioWare doing FireFly or I heard a rumor about a Battlestar Galactica MMO, and that's something BioWare wouldn't pass up imho. |

Envy is ignorance. |
didn't you just flame someone in rumor mill for posting a rumor? Now you post this without a single link or proof? This is a rumor and should go in the appropriate place. Heck, this isn't even a rumor, it sounds like speculation :/ |

Originally posted by stevesmithjr Ok guys when lucas arts lauched Star Wars Galaxies back in 2003 they wanted it to become the biggest MMORPG on martket. Why well becuase it star wars do i need to say more. I mean SOE worked with the biggest IP in mmorpg histroy and could have made the biggest mmorpg but some how they managed not only not do that but lauch SWG in a incomplete state. And not only that they lied to the player base for months saying that jedi were in the game when they were not.And then when they finally got the in a complete state and added in space they mess it up again and over hault the combat of swg and drove away some of the base. Then when they just Release TOB they screw up the game by Release the nge which screw the game,Which screw up TOB,which drove away 99.9 of the old player base andSOE had to give refund and if they had not give refunds they would have got a class-action lawsuit. After NGE went live the Subscriber numbers hit rock bottom. So in the end SOE has approven to be a bad developer who can never give lucas arts what they wanted which is to make SWG the biggest mmorpg on the martket. But bioware has approven that not only TO know how to make great games they also know how to make great star wars games and they have approven to be a great developer and thats why i think bioware is making a star wars mmorpg. . |

Originally posted by kaibigan34No, there is no upcoming expansion, and the one they were working was canceled, because there isn't enough players to make one profitable. Despite SOE's Ministry of Misinformation claiming the game is doing great and growing beyond belief, there just aren't enough subscribers to make an expansion anywhere near profitable. It had nothing to do with the subscribers wanting bug fixes, it had to do with lack of subscribers. If there were enough people still paying the monthly fee to make the suits at SOE and LEC think and expansion had the potential to be profitable, there would be an expansion. SOE has spent the last year trying to attract new players to replace those of us who quit due to the NGE. They failed spectacularly. They are now stuck adding back mutilated versions of content they removed, because the folks at SOE thought it wasn't 'Star Warsy' or 'Iconic', in an attempt to lure unsuspecting ex-subscribers into re-subscribing. After telling us that we were no longer | |||
