As long as there is Station Pass, we will never know for sure how many subs SWG has but, then again, who really cares to spectulate when the Station Pass is also keeping POS games like Matrix going? Point being, SWG is the LEAST of $OE's worries on the current pass. In fact, I doubt they are worried at all.....

The reason why is in the definition of "doing well" itself.

I KNOW FOR A FACT, because a longtime childhood friend of mine works at SOE and recieves weekly reports on subsription numbers, that subs were at 80k a month ago, have gone up to 85k in the last few weeks,

It's still not cracking the 100k mark, and is a far cry from the 300k+ it had in it's prime.

One more thing he told me is that SOE has offciaily put this game into "maintenance mode" which means it is running on a skeleton crew of devs, that are only working on bugs, and there are NO PLANS FOR ANY FUTURE EXPANSIONS. Ever.

Say what you will, laugh at my source, but he doesn't even work on this game anymore because he's strictly a "new product "development person, and just thanks God that he's not working on SWG anymore (he just gets to laugh at the weekly deptartmental reports on all SOE games).

AND, one more thing he said is, 'it's common knowledge here in Austin, that Rich Vogel has been working on a new Star Wars MMO for Bioware for the last year". This is from someone who's been working in the gaming community for 10+ years, and I've known personally for over 25, so I could care less of you believe it or not, time will tell.

SO, just in case Grey Pawn (and boy does that forum name fit him) needs some help counting.......

If you do indeed know someone at SOE who is leaking you subscription numbers, you are running a HUGE risk by publicizing it publically. Employees of many game companies, including, I would imagine SOE, sign Non-Disclosure Agreements. This means that by law they are not allowed to talk about the internal workings of the company, nor share company secrets that they may learn about.

If your friend did indeed share this info with you, he/she is in breach of that contract and can be opening themselves up to some pretty serious litigation. 

The whole idea of subscription numbers is a really tough subject in the inudstry. believe me, every time I am speaking with a dev company for interviews and the like, numbers are always something that I ask about. I am a\ways told that they can not release specific number information. It was explained to me once as having something to do with being traded companies, and the law... I'm not sure about that, but I can tell you that companies don't often release exact subscriber numbers, whether the game is doing well or not.

Now, all of that being said, I'm not commenting one way or the other on the sub numbers for Galaxies. Honestly, I have no idea. I just thought I'd jump in and try to clear some things up and let you know that if you do indeed have this friend, you've put them at risk of litigation, so you might want to mention this to them...

Stradden, while you're right in what you've said, the poster did not mention the name of his friend, and the friend no longer works for SOE. While the NDA agreement still holds, I think it'll still be hard for SOE to track this person down especially knowing how many devs have left SOE since the CU/NGE. I'm not saying what he did wasn't wrong, I'm just saying that it will be too much work to find out the source who leaked the information for SOE to even bother to do an investigation.

85K is probably about right if you consider a lot of the players have multiple accounts...

I bet there are no more than 20K active players.  That would explain why the servers are dead aside from 2.

LOL pay no attention to him zipit, I've noticed from his threads that he is perhaps one of the most deluded SWG NGE supporters I have seen, and not in a good way, some supporters like Obraik for example, even though I disagree with him, I have some respect for him because at least he has some good info and debates really well. Darth on the other hand, I've noticed tends to throw insults more often than make valid arguments.

 The Genre doesnt give out numbers? Does not compute. WoW gives out its numbers all the time.As do others.
 And who cares? i would think SOE and LA care, afterall they scrubbed the previous game for WoW numbers, i would think they care a lot.
