It's pretty well known that SOE is developing something big, what they keep referring to as their 'secret project.'
No one knows what it is, and they ain't talking. Recently, they added key Sigil developers to this unknown project (Jeff Butler, et al). My money says that they are developing a new Star Wars MMO. I believe it will be very similar in design to World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online. It just makes sense. /discuss |

I seriously doubt I will play this game whatever it turns out to be after vanguard.... And if you all hate SOE so much why do you even care?

I wish u are right i am really hoping a new galaxies MMoRPG, since i canceled galaxies with NGE i am really expectiing a new game related to the galaxies universe, which i think is one of the richest theme for a good online game i really miss my old galaxies, i think it was superb .. my only concern and wish is that soe is not the developer :( i really dont like soe's way of handling online games i was expecting a lucasarts direct development of a new galaxies in all ways, it will be really welcome and ofc i will be in ;) |

It could be cause they have got 2 secret mmorpgs going on apart from the DC comics one. However i remember a interview where Smedley said it's not a enjoyable experience working with Lucas Arts because. He said IP instead of Lucas Arts but we all know he was talking about SWG, he said they don't understand the online space enough so it's pointing the blame for SWG at LA....
Bioware also said it's not enjoyable working with Lucas Arts so i doubt very much they will make a Star Wars mmorpg specially when every bit of content goes through Lucas Arts making patching seriously SLOW. |

well there certainly wasn't a problem a few years ago when one of the best MMO's and image of the Star wars universe was released. as for content again it seemed very quick to go thru lucas arts. methinks it is just SOE trying to blame someone else for their phenominal stuff up. then again i could be wrong and it could be another one of those big franchises that are hard to get thru (Christopher Tolkien and his axing of one of the best pen and paper games ever)

agree i think i can remember, soe asked lucas permissions for adding some new spaceships or mobs or something like that, and lucas answered yes really quickly, so the addings were added to game really fast so i agree that soe used lucas for excussing themselves i mentioned lucas as the full responsable of the proyect, developing + maintenance + online explotation .. ( i wish i could be true ;) |

Would not be strange at all. They just made the SWG team smaller, where did the others go? I think they will be using the VG/Unreal engine to make the game. Buying Sigil was not only about VG but also about the tech behind the screens. All the other MMO's SOE owns using rather old tech. |

I think an SWG based on a world of warcraft format would be a waste of time. Developers need to STOP copying warcraft and create something new. Something skill based like the old Galaxies would be fantastic rather than this rush to level up we have now.
But thought needs to go into the quests and missions, so they relate more to Star Wars instead of 'visit planet A and bring me back some spider blood' - then go 16000000km away to fetch one bone and bring back to me. Quests need to engage, rather than feel like a chore. Alot of people already have 1 (or even 2 jobs) they dont need another one! |

Even if SOE made a new SWG... it wouldn't be much like the predecessor and not be what people hoped for.
SWG as many people knew and loved it is dead and buried (EMU's not withstanding) and i can't see anything like it ever coming back, esp from a firm like SOE. |

Well if it is a SW IP, which I seriously doubt... then again it is SOE.... IF anyone was to make a new SW MMO, don't expect it to be anything like the old SWG...you guys are setting yourselves up for another big disappointment. The MMO market has changed, that style of game isn't going to go over with LA again. They already went through it once, they won't do it again. Its far more likely you would end up with a far more limited and generic, combat focused Jedi MMO without much of what SWG currently has. (minus out all that placeable housing, city building, starship customization, GCW, crafting and whatever else in favor of quick crafting, instanced housing IF they had it at all, maybe some vehicles, expect zone style, linear gameplay, instanced battlegrounds with capture the flag or something, starships I could see them doing a stripped down version of what they have now with no interiors....thats the trend people....fast and easy) Its not that the old SWG ideas were bad, they were pretty darn good, but it was just to overwhelming and to much for them to deal with. The scope of the old SWG was unmanagable for SOE. MMOs have toned down in the last few years sticking with formulas of access instead of depth and complexity. It going to continue this way mainly because that is what the larger MMO community responds to and thats where they put their money....fast "fun" gameplay and they are not interested in barriers to gameplay. I don't like it myself but thats the reality. The "complex" MMO's that are around are dying off and the easier access ones are still growing after years of being on the market.
