This is a story that i want to tell about SWG.

After Wathcing that Exodus movie i was thinking about SWG and what made it greate.

I started SWG a couple of months befor the CU,  and i guess i was lucky, but i found myself in the middle of a great Roleplaying guild on Valcyn.  The guild itself had a detailed history, that was passed from member to member over the last 2 years of play.  It wasa great tale of Triumph and Faliure (tho it is probably embelished a little).  Basicly we had plans to ressurect the guild to its former glory.

The reason SWG was fun was not the combat,  (maybee space) and it was not making money.  The fun of SWG was living in Star Wars,  Seeing people make deals,  Lines for doc buffs in Cornet spamming products in other langueges.  The ability to not worry about leveling, becuase there was no Levels,  You could have almost no experience in combat, but besidse your combat people wouldnt know........

But the reason i had the most fun on SWG was the roleplaying.

Here is a story of my first day playing SWG:

The day befor my charecter landed in theed, My good freind in RL known as Olev had hapend to be apart of the assasination of an Imperial guild leader at her wedding! The weding was set up over the watterfalls of Theed,  in the Shadow of the Palace.  Olev and several other rebels had set up in the palace with rifles and proceded to shoot the imperial leader after they said 'I do" (a reble spy was there just to make sure the timing was perfect)

Needless to say the plan went off without a hitch,  though in the end they were trapped and forced to jump to their most certain doom, but thats what clonning is for. anyway My toon ,Hem,  lands in theed and i follow Olev to our the location of our town.  The town was called vorbis and would eventually grow to over 30 members untill we hit the population cap but thats for another day.

At the time Vorbis consisted of 3 crappy Corellia style houses.   It was at this location that i Learned the History of our guild, i would love to tell you it, but you must be apart of our guild to know it I think (correct me if im wrong former Ikeda members if any =))  But i can tell you it was long and exciting,  our guild was steeped in tradition and symbolism, it was a great guiild and it was alot of fun.  That same night olev Led me to an Excluded area of Naboo,  there he told me that this deserted location once stood our original home.  It wa almost strange how he talked about it, like it really meant somthing to him,  and now i know exactly why.

This is ware the Trouble began.  It was here that he was informed by some scource i never met, that we were being traked by a bounty hunter.  He made the three of us split up and go to different towns in different directions.

At first I was apprehensive about the bounty hunter untill i saw a Speeder following me acroos the countryside,  somehow the bounty Hunter had mistaken me for Olev.  This is when he told me the story of the assasination, and that the bounty hunter was sent by the Imperial guild to kill everyone involved with the assasination.

I acted like i didnt see him, continued to the town of Southern Citadel ware i met up with Olev.  This is ware we devised a plan to kill the bounty hunter befor he killed us!  We distracted him and the plan was working perfectly untill he figured it out.  He took the opourtunity to use his jetpack to fly out of our reach and be gone.

Now i know that that isnt that exciting, but actually exoerincing this kind of player driven story coming from a few moths oof EQlive and planetside, it was increadable,  and that was just the FIRST DAY!!!!!

The reason i ended up leaving SWG was not the CU or the NGE or anything SOE did, We left because the guild fell apart,  And it is the NGE that is keeping me away.

Part of me wants to go back, but the other part of me knows that it just wont be the same.

Anyone else had a similar experience as mine, or am I all alone in thinking that it wasnt the combat that made SWG great, but the social aspect that did?

And if so, why did the NGE ruin it?

The new EQ2, better than ever befor !

Sorry to be so negative, I'm just a burnt-out SWG vet who's seen too many broken promises.

It was always the community that made the game fun for me.

It looks like they have and are doing everything they can to destroy the communities, short of closing the game that is, and I bet that’s coming soon.

I never got that involved. I was more an observer and what I observed were people who were having a blast in their SW world, kind of like you described.

Jolen the Bot dancer. Missed Jolen, she was the link to life and death in the field. Never made you tip her, I always did.

The Docs, some in it for the creds, some in it for more. You knew because they were there, day in and day out, not at the good times, at their time. One, I tipped him after CU in hopes he would stay. He vanished. There was no need for him.

I loved playing Oggat when he was a misfit Arti/ Scout/ Brawler. I loved playing Oggat when he was a Master Swordy with uber melee moves that would pound down the foes or cot him a fortune in armor when he got too sassy. His Scythe, the one he got from his quest was on the wall at 1/1 con. I was proud of that.

Oggat after CU was digits and Polygons. SOE wrecked the fantasy. If you can't imagine, why play?

What I find truely ironic is when I tried to tell people on these boards that SWG let you do this type of thing, I was flamed and called all sorts of colorful names. Believe me now Ico?

The social aspect definitely made the game for me, there was always some banter going on in our guild (Kabar, E-Chim) chat, it was great.

We had different kinds of players too, some real hard core grinders, some old hands from day 1 the game came out, newbies etc We were quite a large guild too, there was nearly always somebody on, even in the early hours of the morning, we had female players which at first I found strange for a sci-fi game, people from all over the world it seemed too.

Advice and opinions were given freely, discussions and arguments raged, people fell out, people made up, it was basically a cool online community, something was always going on.

I was not a hard core grinder, and never have been, my two greatest achievements in SWG were getting Master CH through tame and release only (well 95%), it took me about 5 weeks lol, and the other was getting my Hero of Tatooine, but I didn’t care because I really enjoyed the game.

Our guild was not unique in these things I know, but it was my first MMORPG, and my first guild and it just blew me away. I became mad for it, I played for hours, way too many to be healthy, but damn it was fun.

We had our Imperial enemies, the Guild KDS were our villains, there was a lot of history and politics involved there that predated me joining the game so from my first day I was on somebody’s death list, though I was not very good at PVP so rarely went overt.

I thought EQ2 could be the beginning of the end, a lot of people started playing that when it came out and spending less time on SWG, but then people gradually came back, they said it was cool for the first so many levels then got boring. To me it was like a new lease of life in the guild, lots of people deciding they wanted to grind Jedi before the CU came out, there were fears that it would make getting XP harder. I was always ready to help someone with the Village exit quest with my rifle and a rancor.

Still, they had been promising a CU for ages and nothing ever came of it. The JTL expansion, well I didn’t like it, but hey I was a CH, I know queuing for a ship at the starport could be frustrating at times, but it did make good passing trade for the doctors, slicers and well me too. People moaned about the lag at Coronet, but I loved the seething masses there, meeting friends and associates from other guilds and stuff while waiting for the ride, a "Hello" from the crowd, it really felt like a capital city spaceport.

I really feel JTL was mistake number one for SWG, but I never actually did anything with it, maybe if I actually got into the whole flying gig, I would feel different, perhaps they could have implemented it differently, i.e. you still have to wait 5 mins for your ship to be towed from a hanger or something, I mean the flight is still free, but the community is bottlenecked a bit at spaceports.

Then finally it actually happened, the CU really was going to come out after all. We discussed it in the guild, some old timers said things like: "I remember when it took a load of us to take down one Voritor, maybe it will go back to being like that, that would be so much fun" …ooookaay I wasn’t convinced anybody would really put up with that, but maybe the gods of SWG were listening L

Weakening characters is never popular, I think that was the main grump about the CU, and some of the tradeskills felt a bit shafted too, my main source of income was hunting, and I liked to do it alone, it was like a single player mini-game within SWG that went well with my other hobbies, looking for good creatures to tame and exploring the planets.

Seriously nobody would actually enjoy coming out traipsing all over a planet with me, just for the fun of the landscapes and critters, not that the guild chat ever let up, so I never felt like I was alone, I mean I liked group activities/parties etc too, but the option was always there for me to just sod off and hunt if I felt like it.

The CU arrived…. Well that went down well… NOT. I thought ok, its just an end of an era, it is a different game now that is all, I mean if you compare the taste of diet coke to original coke you are always going to be disappointed, you have to just forget about the original sugary stuff, and learn to like diet coke as a different drink altogether, after a while you get used to it and enjoy the new taste.

My guildies felt differently about it, we struggled on as a guild, people leaving all over the place, I was still annoyed that I was going to get eaten every time I went to Endor, so I stopped playing as frequently, one time I logged on and my guild had disbanded.

Soon after I left the game because I couldn’t face the sight of my guild town with nobody in it anymore, mine wasn’t the only player town like it either, the server was emptying so fast, empty player cities, empty vendors, empty cantinas, I just couldn’t take it any more, and I didn’t want to move into another guild.

So for me the CU did destroy the game, indirectly maybe, and JTL sapped it a bit too. Combat did make the game fun for enough of the player base that when they got the hump and left, those who were left noticed it.

When something like that ends, it is like losing a..er well I don’t want to insult anybody who has actually lost anything real, so I wont say, but damn, it stings a bit.

I heard lots of people liked the CU and things were settling down and player numbers were up again, I was pleased for the people still playing. I don’t know much about this NGE thing, but maybe it will settle down again? I don’t begrudge anybody who enjoys the game as it stands now, I hope that they get as much out of the game as I did when I played.

Star Wars Galaxies, R.I.P. NGE was your final death blow.

This is probably all of our story....I also loved the community with a true passion....I tried WoW, Flyff, and then WoW.....community is pathetic compared to what SWG's community was....

They ripped the soul out of the game....

We've go to keep the heat on SOE...we've got to keep getting the media to report on it.....we can't let them win this.....all MMO's future are at stake.

Faxx of Bria....(I chose that server BECAUSE it was over-populated)....lag isn't a problem when combat isn't a priority....guess maybe all the other folks on Bria felt the same too, no?

I find I miss the skylines... especially of Corellia, my home planet. As I watched the Exodus video, I felt the same sadness as all of you. I truly miss what the game was... pre-CU. It had flaws that needed to be fixed, but what the game is now is no fix. If they were to go back t the spirit of what the game once was, I would sign up immediately. This game was and is a part of me. It was my first MMORPG, so maybe some of it is the fondness of that. But this game seems to have touched so many in the same way it touched me, otherwise we who had left so long ago wouldn't still be coming to these forums hoping that ONE DAY we will see that SOE has decided to go back to the pre-CU days. And when and if that day comes, I, just like a lot of you out there, will re-install my SWG discs and re-subscribe. I tried the NGE... I wanted so bad to like it, but it was worse than the CU which was garbage IMO. I just want my game back.

Whoever is responsible for destroying this game probably has no idea how bad they screwed up, aside from the financial ramifications they are reaping right now. /sigh

I was a wife of a powerful guild leader imperial back early game that pvp was strong.

We had a rebel guild that loved to torment us nightly especially after cities came out and we put our bases out. it became a nightly event.

Myself and friend from the rebel guild got together planed my "kidnapping" . That friday night most of both guilds were online. I was taken from my place of business, at the cantina and escorted to a place i didn't know where i was. ( at that time i was straight entertainer dancer/ musician and did not leave the cantina much, ( gnorts scared the ebbie jebbies out of me )

The rebel guild sent a message out to hubby that didn't know what the heck was going on. ( voice chat went down, guild chat wasn't working  ( on my pc) chat, tells weren't working at the time just spatial.....

An call went out on spatial of them searching high and low for the guild leaders wife taken against her will.

After about an hour shots were ringing out blasts were going off (i got teffed) shot and eventually dragged out of ah basement . My guild showed up saved  me. They discovered through informants where i was and went to destroy the rebel guild. By the end of the night i was safely back at home.  Getting royally chewed out by hubby for leaving cantina ( i reminded him he could have walked across the hall to see where i was ( his pc in other room) . A good time was had by all, many folks got involved we ended up in a guild war with rebel guild that they had tons of fun in.

I then learned about wounds that night My lines were totally blackened, and at one point i was such into the story role playing i felt my toons fear....

We had a blast i eventually got healed and after a few days hubby made me swear never to do that again. lol

Hey, I AM one of the Founding members of Ikeda. Lancer Stargazer was our Tono, and I later married him (in Game only) We started out in a small city just outside of Theed, but Lancer wanted to have a Ikeda city. So he waited until he could set his town hall at 0-0 on Naboo. I met Olev in Keren. He has just finished making his character and I had just shuttled in to the spaceport, since our city was sort of close and we didn't have a shuttle yet, I was pulling out my speeder when this guy waves me down. IM's me that he is new and can I help him out. So I showed him around and then took him to our city and explained what we did. Ikeda was a Samurai guild. WE were Samurai in all respects. I had taken Olev under my wing and sort of adopted him as my son. (in game). We had many adventures, hunting trips, lessons on Samurai protocol, city celebrations and just plain fun. But as all things come to pass, and so did our leader. He was in an auto accident and a head injury kept him from playing in front of a computer for very long, he would experience severe headaches and would have to log for the night. So, he passed the leadership to me. But, as I am a woman, there were a few of the guild members that left. After that the guild wasn't the same, and I passed the Leadership unto Olev and he rebuilt what I could not.
