In light of your claims of a healthy and growing population I found this thread quite interesting.....

It would seem that some of your fellow subscribers disagree with you Badger.

Ahh I see, every single new thread made on the Game Play Discussion forum = complete truth?

You don't go there much, do you?

Actually I do, and this is a re-occuring theme I've noticed.

I learnt long ago not to make any wide sweeping generalisations based on the some random persons threads in GPD.

I showed you the stats I made, the situation is utterly crazy no doubt, with all the players piling into a few servers and abandoning others its a fascinating look at how human behavior pans out in online worlds.

But, whether it is in spite of, or due to this craziness, SWG is still doing very well.  Free CTS is what they players wanted, its what they got and more players are returning every day to take advantage of it.

Your charts have only shown an increased level of participation in PvP, and not an increase in subscribers. I believe you're trying to make a corelation between the two when in fact the increased participation in PvP could easily be explained due to some new* elements added to the game. These elements have obviously resulted in an increase in participation, but nowhere does it indicate an increase in new subscribers.

IMO it's a pretty weak example to support your claim.

But also you're acknowledging that people are gravitating to some servers due to the character transfer service while claiming (and implying) that people are returning in droves. How can you possibly make any kind of informed opinion if the status of those servers are in such a state of "craziness"? I would think that at the least the dust needs to settle after the character transfers are over before making any claims. Otherwise it could appear as though you're mis-interpreting the available data.

And lastly I haven't seen you make that claim in those threads and let those people have a chance to rebut your claims. Why is that?

It doesn't really even show that, it simply shows more "GCW officers" and the simple fact is that getting GCW points is easier than ever so it'd show a spike even if the population was/is declining.

...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

Free character transfers were something that players were asking for several years ago and it was far beyond overdue.

Players are returning every day to take advantage of the CTS which is based on what?  Just curious.

The spike in pvp officers is likely the result of GCW points being much easier to get than it is anything else.

Just to clear this up, I don't use the GCW stats to gauge any kind of population increase, as said by others and myself, GU11 made GCW points more readily available than they were with the "baseclubbing" exploit.

The bits I actually take notice of in these stats are long term trends and sharp charges.  The fact that all professions had a marked increase in GCW ranked players except Spy for instance.

SWG having a healthy population is an opinon drawn from my own personal experience and I only use the stats I put together as a reference point and to help others understand the situation better.

I speak to a lot of new and returning players and one particular trend I have noticed is that we are getting a lot of WoW burnouts starting up in SWG or returning.  They then bring their friends and they bring theirs when they find that SWG offers a lot more varied entertainment than the usual WoW grind.

But no, I don't have any stats on sub number so I don't pretend to make any claims regarding that, I just say what I see.

I'll see if I can hook up some player city stats to see growth/decline of city numbers per server over the months, that might be interesting too when correlated with what I already have, but again, its still no clear indiciation of game health.

For that, log in and see. ;)

I'm a WoW burnout, I got sick of instance/loot grinds and PvP honor grinds. What does SWG offer me? ... oh wait, nm, sorry I asked.

That's an awfully bold claim. What kind of empirical evidence do you have to back that up? I saw your annecdotal evidence above about what you see when in-game, and I respect that. But to try to use that alone and spin it into the claim above is an incredible leap.

How do you arrive at this conclusion, other than saying, "I see plenty of people on my server(s)." How can you seriously quantify the size of the population base and deem it's enough to "have a healthy population on all 24 servers"? I don't think any of us can do that, given the limited knowledge regarding subs and such. Are you privy to information we're not?

To me, this conclusion just seems like a huge leap with no real way of backing it up.

If your claims of increased subscriptions (and I'll remind you that you also claimed that SWG was as busy as ever) is simply your opinion then I would recommend stating that it is your opinion while you are making those claims. Otherwise it comes off as sounding as though you're passing it off as fact - and that I feel is unfair and misleading to potential subscribers.

As for logging in and seeing for myself I can and have done that quite frequently. IMO there is enough of a "healthy population" for 7 servers maximum, but likely 5 will do. Definetly not the current 25 available! Server mergers need to happen to ensure that customers of SWG are gettting the best value for their $15. Otherwise people will continue to unsubscribe as their needs/wants are not being met and other gaming options open up to them.

LOL!  Wow, thanks for the laugh.  SWG hasn't seen a decent population since 2005.  There aren't enough subscriptions in this game to fill a star-cruiser.

This all makes me laugh (the lol irl kind). Thank you for the entertainment!

For f'n years, yes years, these forums have been overflowing with posts of swg sucks then some fanboy or girl (but most likely a guy right?) defends against the mob of swg haters. I swear this crap never changes.

Facts and General Observations:

* SWG sucks! It has always sucked. I played since beta and it sucked then. But it was Star Wars so we let it slide. There has never been a time when this game was not broken. Composite armor on everyone with doc buffs, overpowered medics, broken quests for years, my house buried underground etc. etc. etc. etc.

* SWG is milking you for all the money they can! Zombies? Did I hear that correctly? Whatever I can't even wrap my brains around that.

* Fanboys don't need to defend this game. If you like it cool, I just don't see why some people can't handle why others play it and I can't understand why those who do play feel they must justify it.

* I have been SWG free for a year now and I am happy. It hurt to leave because I was dumb to stick around for that long and I wanted something for that time and money spent. But friends are gone, money is in Smed's new pool and now we have a new Star Wars game to look forward to so whatever.

* I think as long as SWG lives, there will be those to bash it, those to defend it and people like myself who just find it all extremely entertaining.

SWG thank you for entertaining me only after I stopped paying!

Glad you find this all fun. :)

I don't think I "defend" SWG, there are always people with a grudge against SoE and or SWG, I enjoy answering their concerns and providing information about the current state of SWG.

Hell, I'll talk to anyone about SWG, I can go on and on and on and on...

SWG is a fun game, might not be for everyone, but its worth trying at least.

I'm starting to get kinda bored.  The Legacy Quests make me feel like I'm playing a single player game.  Guild chat has been kinda quiet.  I'm only to level 24....I have a long way to go to catch up to everyone else.

Also, the economy seems like it is really inflated.  I just wanna little pet friend to run around with me to keep me company.  I used to be a CH and catch my pets for free.  But from what I understand, BM is kind of an expensive trade for a new person to start, and pets are millions of dollars on the vendor.  It's discouraging.

Here are some tips on levelling fast: Guide: Understanding Experience Gain

If you are feeling confident in your abilities you can skip ahead to the level 30 portion of the Legacy Quest, more info on that is in the guide.

Which server are you on, Terranah?  You might be able to get a cheap pet for around 1 million credits, which you will get from the Legacy Quest reward payouts, you end up with about 4 million credits after doing the whole quest line.

If you check the Bazaar, click on the "Vendor Location" tab, select the "Entire Galaxy" radial button, click on the "All" category and type "Egg" into the Item name filter you should be able to browse available pets.

Some are mounts however that can't be used for combat, I think that is displayed on the description of the Egg though.

I hope that helps.

yeah I can see where bager takes issue with what his statements are turned into.  He did not say anything about pre-nge he said that the population is good and healthy and to try starsider its rockin'.      Cold hard truth everytime someone puts words into another posters mouths and tries to make something of nothing it only looks silly.

The population on thos servers is very good and the game is healthy as a result.   There is nothing wrong with those statements and I am wondering why I am even bothering to say anything when I know the entire thing is just a way to keep these forums hoping and cause as much controversity and drama as possible, but I am being sucked into the vortex of watching as words get twisted again by a group of people who's only presence on this forum is to post something negative (even if its just to try to start an argument or put words into people's mouths) no matter what.

Actually Ummax Badger did say in other threads that SWG was "as busy as ever". I take that to mean the subscription base is equal to or better then what it was in the past. Am I wrong in assuming that that was the meaning behind his claims?

Perhaps Badger would clarify his statements himself though.

I simply think some people are well trying to read too much into simple forum conversation.   I see no statements that justify what is basicalyl making a mountain of a molehill.  I see an enthusiastic helpful player saying hey the game is jumping with activity (which it is if you login into the right servers) go see for yourself starsider is awesome populated and so go there and play cause its a busy happening place.    When you try to take phrases out of context you can make anything of them and so people do and it always baffles me to no end why people would be so nit picky about what is basically a happy post by an enthusiastic gamer telling a guy what server to go to.

If this was the case then SWG would have been steadily growing over the years, not declining.

It is.  Log in to one of SWGs top eight servers and see.

If players hadn't skewed themselves across the top eight servers with the Free CTS, we'd have a healthy population on all 24 servers, just a bit larger than Shadowfire currently.

But try Starsider, it's rockin'.

What??? So your saying that the population of swg is close to what it was pre-nge but that people have clustered themselves on just a few servers which gives a false impression that theres fewer players than before???  Are you for real???

yeah I can see where bager takes issue with what his statements are turned into.

Its all well and fine to tell people you enjoy a game and to invite others to come and try it.  Its an entirely different matter when someone makes claims that simply aren't true.  Badgersmacker has, on numerous occasions, made claims suggesting swg has more players than what it really does.   All one has to do is log into any of the 20 some odd servers that are ghost towns to know thats not true.  Theres only, at most, 5 servers that could be called active.  Thats a far cry from years past and shows that the population has decreased, not increased.

You can promote or be critical about a game all you want, as long as the arguements you use are honest.   Claiming swg is as busy as ever isn't being honest.

OH MY GOD WE'RE SURROUNDED! SEND FOR BACKUP! DIG IN DEFENSIVE POSITIONS! MAN YOUR NECKBEARDS!!!

I'll pre order you SWTOR if you let me put my lightsaber in your sarlaac cave.

No-one has twisted anything, here's Badger's direct quote:

"Players report that the server is as busy, if not busier than Pre-CU."

...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.
