I just wanted to make an updated post about my experience in swg since returning to the game 3 weeks ago.Believe it or not the game in my opinion is alot better and I am glad I gave it another go. Ok to start with I would like to comment a little more about the population since it has been a topic of discussion here latly. I play on Bloodfin and here is what I see. As soon as I created my new toon and landed on Tattooine ,Mos Eisley I saw alot of players hanging out at the Cantina,Star Port and in and around the town.As I began doing the Legacy Quest series the population spread out alot,I still saw several people out and about questing here and there. Now here is my opinion of the population on Bloodfin and it is healthy. It is really hard to judge the population in this game anymore .because the content has everyone spread out all over the game,so you do not see as many main hang-outs like you did in Pre-Cu,CU versions, people are out at different stages of the quest lines, pvping,in space,or doing dungeons. Now as for other servers I do not know their conditions ,but it sounds like most are light in population, but the game is definatly growing slowly. I have ran into several players along the way who say they have just returned to the game and tell me they feel the same way,the game is alot better. So far I have decided to stay in SWG and made this choice over EQ2 and returning to wow for the simple fact I am having a blast with this game :P

Congrats bud. I am not being sarcastic when I say that cause about 97% of the time, people go back to their previous MMOs to give a another go and cancel their account 10 minutes later. Usuaully people leave the game cause they're just burned out on it or the population is decreasing. It's hard to find an MMO like that and to come back and see the numbers growing. I don't have to worry about population, cause i play WoW

Playing:WoW,Guild Wars
Used to play: Vanguard, Anarchy Online (got to lvl 6 and quit :p)
Waiting for: Warhammer, Aion

Pumpkin orange?

If you did the Legacy quests full on, and enjoyed them, my guess is you were not a CU, or even pre-CU player.

For every 1 person that enjoys this game 10 or more do not.

SWG isn't growing, it's bleeding subs.  The "new" players he sees are from subscribers transferring servers are rolling new toons.

Just out of curiosity ,Why is that ?

Pre-cu and Cu really didn't have much content at all , Quests didn't do a thing to help you progress back then . Some people prefer this avenue of progression .

Note:  I never have been into questing personally . Yet still can't see how being a cu/pre-cu player has any bearing on whether someone would enjoy having the legacy quests as a form of progression. Its all Apples and oranges to me.

Your guess is wrong I mastered 28 professions in pre-cu grinds,I also did most of the village quests in CU form and remember waiting for "Grind Groups" to gain xp which was lame to do.Understand this I do not approve of what SOE did,But the game now is not that bad and to be honest I could care less if you like it or not, what counts is I am enjoying it along with many other people:). I am sorry you do not like it I hated it as well when it 1st launched as the NGE Benny Hill show, but its not like that anymore:P

most people forgot that skill progression was mostly done by killing mostly pickets and quenquers in dantooine or gurks in lok. entertaining people that killed pickets and quenquers  in dantooine or gurks in lok, or healing people that killed pickets and quenquers in dantooine and gurks in lok.  Unless ofc you were unlucky to have some profession that require odd kinds of exp (bh and investigation, bio engineer also,  comes to mind).

and end game was rancor missions in dathomir for credits. or entertaining people that took rancor missions in dathomir. or buffing people that took rancor missions on dathomir.

one of my best friends in game once told me: this is all about holocroms, picklets, gurks, quenquers and rancors.

I also prefer the quests as we have now in SWG than the 2003/2004 quests...

Go deliver this datapad to this guy on the other side of the planet and receive this broken hologram... or 50 credits.... or "insert any stupid thing here"... There was not a single quest worth doing, only the very few quest lines (the kryat skull, hero of tatooine.... cant remember any other... lol)

There was absulutly no content in the old game, it was fun having all those professions, but it got old pretty fast as there was nothing to do ingame.

PVP was broken (gotta love to remember the bestine vs anchorhead or Moenia vs Theed battles when the servers got launch, and everybody was fighting in bone armor :D) but the majoraty of the game was empty, Rebel or Imperial theme parks were a joke (stupid missions and ridiculous rewards) lucky for us, the game was new so lots of people playing.

It was fun hanging out on the wilderness in a scout camp (latter the mega camps of the ranger) but when you do it night after night for more than 1 year.....)

Then the buffs hit (we turned into super soldiers) and we didnt group anymore, there was this new unique thing that was called solo-groups and everyone was in composite armor.... talk about attack of the clones :D)

The game came to a point that everybody had done everything 100 times already.

At least now the game has content, its not perfect but I agree that we can have fun in it, at least is not a medieval game with elves and dwarfs, so its a good game to anyone into space theme.

The CU or NGE where nice tries to prevent the game from dying, but the way they implement it..... players left and they did the right thing, no company can try to do a NGE again the way SOE did, and at this prespective I agree 100% with the vets here (I'm also a vet).

I can however see the larger picture, and SWG still has fun to offer, if anyone can forgive/forget (its been 3 years :)) and give the game a chance.

I agree with this post.but lets take another look what if SOE had left the combat system alone,Fixed and balanced the classes, maybe even take away defense stacking. They then could have added quests for xp and you could use the xp like you always did and skilled up whatever tree you wanted presto you have a game that would have been todays wow. All they had to do was add content and leave it alone and it would have taken off. I agree with everything said here tho. All these people bash the game, but forget some of the problems it had pre-cu.Outside of the NGE ui,I think the game is better now than it was pre-cu and cu:P

I'm not saying that there no potential to have fun in SWG...  I just couldn't find it on a dead server.   You give all past subscribers in good standing a free month of play, and it sure will give the appearance that the population is growing on some servers.

I logged onto Kauri during primetime, toured all major cities, checked out the new Aurelia, and then tried to get some buffs.. good luck when you see 6 players the whole time you're logged on for 4 or 5 hours.  Had one friend log on during that time, asked if I was missing some new place where everyone congregates, and I was told not to hold my breath because the server is pretty much dead.

Sony's response...  give us $50 per character, and we'll find you a nice populated server to put you on. lol

You can point out all the flaws in the original release, or in the CU, but the NGE proves that as much upside as you add to a rewrite of the core game, the unconquerable downside will only goes to show that you should have put that time into the original game rather than abandoning it and starting over.
