"I am altering the deal, pray I don''t alter it any further." (summary of SWG) |
Originally posted by ObraikHow is an LFG system even a first step towards helping a server with a population problem? If there's no one to group with, what use is a grouping tool? Why in the world does everyone understand this basic fact except people that work for SOE? Second, is SOE still basing its decisions on the feedback from players it is not getting, and ignoring the feedback that they are getting? This has always mystified me. It's like SOE people see all the feedback on the forums and say to themselves, "if this is what the vocal minority wants, we had better do the opposite, because that must be what the silent majority is thinking." So plans are based on SOE's assumptions about what some imaginary silent majority is believed to be thinking. Does anyone else see how insane that is? Third, people asked for server mergers at face to face meetings with Smed, and he promised to fast track them. Instead of this, players are getting an LFG tool. Believe me I understand that people don't want to lose all their buildings and such, so instead of an LFG tool, why doesn't SOE explore a way to transfer players and their buildings to a new server? If you tell me it's too hard, I say, try harder, it's the least you can do for the people that have stuck with SWG through all the b.s.. |

I think SOE should allow free transfers - it is not fair to players trapped on dead servers otherwise.
That being said, I see the LFG as a step in the right direction. Why? Because when it does not work- it will show more drastic changes need to be taken. One of the fundamental problems with SWG has always been they try sweeping changes when small adjustments were ever only really needed. For once they are doing something small in scale and people are jumping them for it? I WISH TO GOD THEY HAD TRIED SMALL SCALE CHANGES PRE-CU!!!! Honestly, given the past logic of SWG if this was 2005, they would have just wiped servers and deleted characters and started new servers with no player input whatsoever. They would not have even CONSIDERED that some people are very attached to their ghostly servers. You guys talk about how bad this dev team is. The truth is they are just small and may not be the most experienced, but they listen a hell of a lot more than people did with NGE. I still think a classic server would be the way to go... knowing SOE's greed, I would not be the least bit surprised if they start one up as soon as the place we must not speak of is up and fully running (followed, of course with a lawsuit without merit--- but one that will be expensive for those guys). LFG system - meh- it will help on the populated servers. It will not help the empty ones but it will not hurt them either. At least when this is shown the whole "players are there, you just cannot find them" argument will finally be put to rest... |

Love how badgersmacker still holds the players in such a spot of respect. Look at his response in the first page of that thread: "Well if none of that works I'm sure the Dev team could do you a nice server merge of some sort, after watching the nightmarish horrors of the Japanese server mergers I'm sure that will be something to look forward to. " My memory must be failing, didn't they just SHUTDOWN all of hte japanese servers years ago and endeavor to allow people to copy their characters (no houses or structures or anything like that) over to servers of their choice? Or was BS (love that abbreviation for an SOE employee) not there in those days? Either way so happy I left when I did. |

The LFG system is a good idea, but I don't think it will rebuild from a tiny server to a healthy server. It's too much of a long term plan, and people are asking for a fast solution. And, there is another fact. Economy systems relies on critical mass and LFG system doesen't help this, and a SWG server without an economy is just a waste of time to play in. Neither cross-server instances help this lol (cool way to break immersion BTW). The solution is already given by players. Free server transfers. Don't waste your time trying magical solutions, use your time and resources in a good free transfer system and reduce the number of servers from 20+ to around 10. |

They give free play time to people that have canceled and are not paying, but what have they EVER "given" to people that are paying? No free playtime for the times when the servers have been down for extended periods (and yes, other companies do this). No free transfers. Nada. And why? $OE is cheap and greedy. |

The Japanese were given a "free" server transfer that included items, how else did all those DiK paintings get to the US and Euro servers? |

Unless they figure out how to allow resources and factory crates to be transferred then free server transfers aren't the answer. It will just screw crafters even more than usual. |
