No crap, you want it, I want to build it.

So I got a few friends who will help me build Star Wars 3D models (Maya) and textures (Photoshop).

Anyone else feel like helping out or have any experience progressing things forward?

Anyone with any creative experience and worked on previous game projects I would really like to chat to privately off the forums.

Picking a suitable game engine with minimal knowledge of programming is doing my head in.

 

It takes one persons' comment to change the world.  But it takes an army to build it.

hehe well i wasn't thinking of another star wars cause I think you would get in deep trouble <Mod edit>

I was just thinking of a space game or whatever better then SWG.

Me personally i'm happy with what I have but there are plenty of geeks around to help. It will take forever though but if your not doing anything else as a hobby then forever is not such a bad thing..

Well it is an idea.

Even if I could get the basic platform running with a few models and prove to LA what can be done, you never know.  Maybe the people who helped (if professional enough) may get sucked up into other projects

I got three days to put together a battle plan.  Post the team I need, what i can do and push things forward.

Not if you started it 2 years ago and found the document almost lost in ye old My Docs on an old machine hee hee   But yeah I think 3 days mite be pushing it even if i dedicated 11 hours a day to do it.  Maybe a little Gung Ho. 

Anyone got any design documents you could link or send to me to look at?

Next step is variate the design, when I get better at it, move to Jedi Starfighter, other starships then characters.  Nice little project this one.

Oh and been working on the database and how the attack/melee/ranged system will work.  As I am fiddling with ideas, when I get something solid I can put together a "Design Documentation".

Get on my list to think about:

Races

Proffessions

Download/Obtain Architecture Material - other story lines from existing novels

Lvling?  - Still looking for a new organic approach to this.  Something different but solid.

So I can spread my time between modelling, thinking about design, database structures and key criteria.  Oh and that blasted game engine.  Well, cant do that till I can prove what I can do.  I feel a demo reel coming on :).  Getting my team together hopefully.  Last update I will do on this subject as it is Star Warsy but not to do with the current game.

Hmm, mite do something "Iconic" next LOL.

I dont know if you can get a copy of maya unlimited but it would make texturing faster if you can.  

make a deathstar its nice a round but ominous :)

Thx Ummax,

I am going to keep it small for a while.  I got Maya Unlimited.  As I get better at it, I will go back and revise my first models and make them "game specific low poly, nice and neat".

I am not going to texture the models/render till I get better at modelling.  Trying to stage the process so I can batch textures,rendering later on.  My skills in photoshop are okay...

Deathstar, now that would be interesting :)

Got the lightsaber build time down to 2 hours which is not bad.  Will keep you posted.

Meatbag status

While you are a meatbag, I suppose I should not call you as such--Hk-47

got some suggestions if you like:

1 : no lvl combat (like lvl 45-78 etc, make skills based  inteads)Pre-cu i means)

2: make large battle like imperial vs rebel , (must like a world pvp ) no instance bg

3:if you can ameliorate the graphics it would be a +

4:hmm..artisans must have to do something useful in the game like they can create the better weapons ,gear etc,

5-better AH too

6-a storyline too might be useful

7-a world in movement might be cool to add in the game.(like rebel attacking outpost and second day darth vader came and killed him all!!lol) but not the same place /moment)

8-combat like kotor or pre-cu if you like

9-player race with trophy systems ,armor with trophy ,better player house/cities,more improvement

10- own economy systems no loot gear aka WoW.

11- challenge when crafting like eq2 (buttons)

12-new planets too and points of interest ,like some planets in kotor 1 and 2 .

13-can speak language and learn language with other player,along with skills

14-intelligent npc with voices in consequence for actions ,no bug script

have played:WoW,War,EQ,EQ2,lotro,Eve online,swg(pre-cu).

Waiting on:Darkfall,SW:the old republic,lotro moria.

Keep going Simmus but do understand that I am designing from scratch.

I got ideas like chars "buddying up" like a Jedi Padawn (Player) and a Jedi Master (NPC) talking to each other by mind melding, smugglers staying in contact with NPC Master Smuggler with comms link, etc etc  Missions/advances to plots being picked up that way rather than having to keep running back to the NPC.

There are some flaws but am picking up ideas, ideas, ideas!!

Professions would be combat orientated first, I would not look at dancers/entertainers/traders to begin with.  I did list down professions and minimized to Jedi, Smuggler, Spy, Trooper, Officer and Bounty Hunter.  Then looked at differentiating their abilities by tank/heal/HoTs and DoTs.

Its all ideas.  I really would want the story kicking off with the rebuilding of the rebel base at Hoth for rebels and the Empire being attacked at Coruscant.  Time span to the films/games unsure but this is all ideas.
