I'm not being absurd in the least; I'm being realistic. Markets are driven by minorities; not majorities. A vocal minority can kill your business. Any SW MMO that does not please pre-CU vets will fail due to bad viral marketing.

Sorry, but you are kidding yourself.  The pre-CU vets have not driven SOE to make a pre-CU server or managed to make any dent in the player figures for any of the other SOE games - this is because non 'pre-CU Vets' (i.e. - the majority of gamers) don't actually give a rats ass about their ancient grievances and certainly aren't going to be put off playing a new SW MMO just because the relatively small clique of 'vets' are still spitting the dummy out about something that is years-old news.

How you can think otherwise (or believe in the massive self importanceof the pre-CU vets your posts suggest) or that a 'please this small group or you'll fail!!' argument is 'being realistic' is beyond me.

we have driven alot of people away from giving $OE money for swg.

we have made a big dent in the other games.

not only that but look at how well a game like eve is doing. most of the swg vets went to eve and it is growing faster every day. i won't put it past eve hitting a million subs by the end of the year.

so trust me we are the players bioware wants to go after. not the warcraft kids or xbot kids but the real pc gamers.

I doubt you have actually made a big dent (or even a small dent) in EQ2'a numbers. EvE's success is hardly dependent on the addition of the 'vets'. And do you seriously believe Bioware would rather have the player numbers from the 'pre-CU vets' or the player numbers of games like WoW? (or are you going to tell me the only reason WoW has such massive subscriber numbers is because of the 'pre-CU vets' as well )

Bioware are a business - they'll want the subscription numbers.  And if they make a good game that appeals to a lot of WoW players, they won't be losing any sleep about wether the game appeals to a small number of players calling themselves 'vets'.

Even if it turns out to be a Clone Wars MMO?
Kinda sceptical about what type of SW Bioware might bring, that is IF, i do think from a business point of view that a Clone Wars MMO might do allot better then a MMO based on the movies, tho i don't want it to be a Clone Wars MMO and will not play it as i never could get into the whole Clone Wars series.
Also expectations of "IF" it turns out to be a SW MMO would be much higher then when it all was so new back at pre-cu, especialy with TFU coming soon and all the rest of the experiance most gamers have gained after-pre-cu, in lots of games and also the fact the overal MMO community has grown so much bigger then 10/15 years ago.
So what ever they are cooking it might be something that is the total opposite of what most VETS are looking for or it might turn out into something most VETS are looking for.
I just hope for the best and wait and see.....

I certainly would give a clone wars MMO a shot, I would give a WoW in space clone a shot, I would give a sandbox a shot, I would give a great many games that are Star Wars a shot -- if the game isn't a broken piece of crap. like SWG, I'll play it and probably enjoy it.

I don't like the fantasy genre particularly, but I do enjoy WoW, because it WORKS as a game. I PREFER a sandbox, and if someone ever made one that works, in a world I liked, I would play that as well. I loved the SWG sandbox, and played it, flaws and all, if I could have that without the broken content, broken professions, and bugs, I would LOVE that.
If I couldn't have that, I would still enjoy a WORKING less sanboxy game. I contain multitudes and can find enjoyment in many game systems and many worlds.
I LOVE Star Wars and would play ANY working MMO set in the Star Wars universe. SWG NGE DOES NOT WORK, and I still pay/play that one, for historical reasons.
So yeah, if bioware makes a Star wars game, I'll give it a shot.
That being said, if it doesn't appeal to pre-CU fans, fail it will.

Thanks for your answer, but it will fail if it doesn't appeal to pre-cu fans???, i do hope you meant this sarcastic .....right?, i mean roughly taken we have 16/18million online gamers and what did we have pre-cu a mere 200/300k subscribers? hmmm.... i'm also quite sure that WOW was NOT the game many pre-cu players wanted but they addepted to it and many seem to have enjoyed or still are enjoying the game.

Nope, not sarcastic at all; pre-CU fans were a very wide group who liked the original game for many reasons, and hated the NGE for a variety of reasons as well; that being said, if the new game is something they badmouth, it'll be hard for any new SW MMO to succeed.

It certainly needs to appeal to MORE than pre-CU fans, but if it fails with them, it'll fail.

Sorry, the disgruntled vet vote doesn't matter for anything anymore. After all the whining for the last three years, the only things pre-cu fans will hear when they badmouth the game will be STFU.

they caused thefailure of SWG, they have prevented SOE from having a success since, and they have led every other MMO company to say they will never do an NGE.

the mistakethat SOE made, and the vets they created, have changed the MMO business almost as much as the creation of WoW has.

All I can say is, watch and learn, just as SOE did.

Sorry, but it is you who are kidding yourself. The fact is. pre-CU vets have changed the entire industry and have prevented SOE from having a successful game since.

The fact that SOE has not given in and ammended their ethical mistake has hurt them.

Also, every new game that has come along has had to promise they will never do what SOE did.

As I said to the other guy, watch and learn.

well, I think tey need to "go after" more than pre-CU vets, but pre-CU vets are a part of what ought to be their strategy.

They need to make a game that appeals to the hardcore and the casual, the PvPer and the PvEer, the sim player and the action gamer.

The audience for Star Wars is very wide. To be successful, their strategy must be wide as well.

Even the title of this forum itself speaks volumes, "Veterans Refuge", refuge from what?

Oh right, the millions of others that disagree with you and don't hold similar opinions that match your own.

No, I am not, and I don't appreciate your half assed attempt to get me temp banned.

My opinions here are as valid as your own, I made NO personal attacks whatsoever, if you were unable to comprehend my intention with said statement than that is your own fallacy.

Go ahead and report me though, if you haven't already, nothing unusual about you guys hiding out in here and trying to control what is said, once again: typical.
