Not only that he said it is designed for MMOs from the ground up meaning it was designed with the idea that you would have 100s or thousands of people in the same area at the same time. That is something other game engines were not designed to handle (unreal, hero, cry) engines to be specific were all single player games or multiplayer where the most people you would have in the same area was 20-30. |

Originally posted by sanshi44 To be fair, at GDC in the videos, they said you can spec down the galaxy tree to become a mobile spawnpoint. Now, that might get taken out if theres enough of a complaint by the original Planetside community, however I don't really see the problem with fast respawn. I never played the original Planetside, so I don't know what dying and respawning was like, but I think it adds a new element to it in that if you destroy the galaxy= no respawns, so it sort of creates this key focal point to defend your bases from galaxys and the battle buses, since they bring with them troops and the like. Though I can sympathize with the original PS1 community in that it does sound pretty awesome to have to take your giant carrier/bus and pick up all the soldiers, then wheel them out there, basically making the galaxy and battle bus useful rather then "Ok go fly that thing here and everyone will spawn on it, then you do nothing" type of thing.
I agree, I don't like the idea of squad spawning. I do hope they have rezzing like in BF3, that way squads can stick together longer, and have more options to coordinate together, otherwise being able to just warp in on a squad member is just dumb. Because then, you just get one guy to sneak into a base, and then everyone spawns on him and its an instant base rape with little to no effort.
As for the classes, I honestly think thats a much better route to go down, rather then classlessness. If soldiers don't have a class, they aren't limited to what they can use, so then it just becomes "Alright, if you don't have a rocket launcher, sniper and shotgun+some sort of automatic, your a shit player and you should feel bad". It just becomes a giant One-man-army game, and honestly thats no fun. |

I like the idea of having to drive in a troop transport of fly a carrier to land a mobil spawn point. Makes destroying them a priority. |

Originally posted by Zaltark From my limited knowledge of those xbox fps eg call of duty/black ops, watching some flatmates respawn/respawn may make sense for those matchplays, but I think for mmo, there should be more depth to it than just that? The destroying spawn-points, had not thought about that, could be a good way to go. However, easy to cave in to the individual spawn quickly, but is that detrimental to the maps/strategy over the long term?? Missed PS, man I wish I'd known about that one... so can only speculate... |

So the mobile spawn point is a Gal that's parked on the ground and deployed
How is that any different than spawning in PS1? Those of you that are crying about the spawning in PS 2 obviously don't remember AMS being deployed at every base you attacked. If one got destroyed it was only a matter of time before someone put up another one. Sometimes there were spare AMS laying around waiting to be deployed. The galaxy spawning is no different. We don't even know how the squad spawning will work. I'm sure that there will be limitations. We will see in beta. Comparing PS 2 to COD is a bit ridiculous. You know, this will be a truly great game as long as they can keep the cheatin, hackin, sicko mofos out. That was a serious prob with PS1. |
