The game is still going strong. Sure, people have quit, but there are new players everyday. This is true will all online games.
The anniversary quests are simple, but the rewards are great. So great, in fact, that some players are complaining (as is usual with a game like this). My Wife and I took part in this adventure last night and we had a blast.
For the past few months, many cities have been under attack. With the new quests, the attacks may seem to be coming to a conclusion. But, that is just for now. Total peace will elude Norrath. There is always someone conspiring to overthrow a government or civilization.
If you are a former player, come and see the changes. If you have never played, come check out what you have been missing. We have a great community and will welcome you and guide you in our ever changing world.
Be seeing you. Ciao!
I miss this game a lot at times. Was my first MMO. I wish they would port it to play on PC or PS3 though. Preferably PC. I mainly play PC based MMO's now and just can't stomach firing up the PS2 to play this again for very long. If they could make FFXI work on PS2 and play on the same servers as the PC players, you would think it would be possible to port this to PC and work on the PS2 servers or port the PS2 version to work on PC version servers.
I think a lot of people would try it who never have and some old players would play it again if they would try porting it. I might be able to stomach it on a console if they would try porting it to PS3 with an expansion.
