Just curious as I love EQ1 (wasn't much in to EQ2) and love Vanguard. It annoys me that Vanguard has no plans what so ever of ever making a PS3 or XBox 360 game client for Vanguard. I would much rether play the game on PS3 or Xbox360 just based on the fact that I can click the on button, grab my controller, and sit down to play... no muss no fuss. I am giving consideration to buying an old PS2 just to try out EQOA for the heck of it. I can add station access to my SoE account, and be able to play EQOA as well as EQ1 and Vanguard that way. Would it be worth my time and effort to buy a ps2/hd/network card and try out EQOA, or is the game still active at this point?

As far as I know, there have been no official plans or announcements regarding a PS3 or Xbox 360 version of EQOA. There has been a decent amount of speculation and wishes from players, but no actual plans from SOE. I actually just bought a PS2 the other week. I've been looking to give PC gaming a rest, and I saw an article about EQOA and an advertisement for the slim PS2 on the same day, so I just decided to buy it. I got a brand new PS2, because they are only $129 now. Plus with the new ones, they have the ethernet port built right into it, so you don't need to get the network adapter. And the newest slim version of the console is about the size of a book, it's great because it takes up hardly any space at all. You also don't need a hard drive for EQOA, you only need an 8mb memory card. I just bought a new copy of EQOA from Ebay and it should be arriving next week. I'm looking forward to being able to sit comfortably on the couch and play the game on a nice big flat tube TV, instead of being hunched over in front of this 21" PC monitor. I think my wrists, eyes, and back will thank me for spending some time away from the PC for a change. |

Hi Loothur I've played EQOA a few times, and I'm very impressed with the game. I've played EQ1 since about 2001, and what SOE did with EQOA is just amazing. Compared to EQ1, the game has tons of options with what you can do with your class. If you choose a mage, your arent simply a 'mage' for all your gaming life. They have different 'things' you can train in, like wolf form, and other forms..that really make the game quite different than EQ1. The game has a nice travel system too, using coaches similar to Wow's griffons. Someone that is an EQOA veteran may want to add their two cents on the depth of gameplay. Regarding if people are still playing the game, it has a very die hard group of people that absolutely love the game. I had no problems finding people to play with , most are around the city of Freeport, and offer TONS of advice and help. If SOE would put a few bucks into advertising, print more of the game disks ( it's getting more difficult to get the disks ) and add an expansion the game would really blossum. Of course, the absolute best thing SOE could do to help EQOA...make EQOA2 and put it on the PS3, to take advantage of the PS3's awesome system spec's and the hard drive + Keyboard and Mouse ; ) All the best!

Here's my 2 cents. I played EQOA for several years and basically it just got stale. If you want to get a flavor for what's happening there look at their forums and see it's filled with posts regarding how the game is dying out and other posts basically asking for things that many other MMO's have but EQOA will never get. It's a major league grindfest. While i realize that every MMO has some grind to it tha'ts all there is here really. So if you want to stand at a camp and kill the same monsters over and over you'll like EQOA. I did llove it for a while but lack of content and updates along with the boredom of grinding chased me away. I've played quite a few MMO's so I do have some experince. This is only my opinion of course. I wouldn't suggest buying a PS2 for it though at this point. Play a game that actually has things to do. |

I WISH they'd make a new version of it. I absolutely LOVED this game. |

My wife and i played Eqoa for about 4 years and we would love to see a remake of the game on PS3 with the same gameplay mechanics just updated grafix and more Eq1 lore/zones. It would have to be just as seamless and group based as EQoa for it to even work, thats what made the community so great and the world feel so real. The feeling you get being able to run anywhere , for example from freeport to Qeynos hitting every dungeon on the way and never see one hint of zone loading or slow down at all , or catching that uber raid mob up and rushing your guild out to get it before anyone else, just cant be beat. I have played just about every mmorpg out there and still play about 4 on Pc, but none have come even close to the awesome fun and adventure and great community as Eqoa, my wife and i hold everything to its standards and so far nothing has came close . ( not counting Eq1 ,being the "father' it will in some ways always be king )

I just re-rolled a toon on CLW. I had a copy of EQOA: Frontiers still sealed and decided to give it a shot. I know when I previously played the game, there was a lot more activity in the starter areas, now I roughly see a handful of people. My best guess is that most people have already moved out of the starter area. I am running the game on a 20GB PS3. There are some minor things I noticed, like a graphical update. Even though there isn't an abundance of people at the moment. I am finding it fun, and entertaining. There's still an air of mystery and adventure to this game that I haven't felt in a while. Mind you this game take place in Norrath's past, previous to EQ1. I think it's one big continent from what I remember. I would say give it a shot, 30 days free play couldn't hurt. Current Games: Fallen Earth, Warhammer Online, Champions Online |

I hope they decide to make a EQOA for the ps3. I played EQOA for 3 years when it first came out and every now and then I check to see if the server is still up even though me account has long ago been deleted (thats how addicting it was, I just want to see if the server is up incase I comeback). I did comeback one time though. There were a few people around, but only in handfuls and definitely not around the nooby areas. Even though some of the quests in this game were tedious and graphics a little sub-par this game was fantastic. The community was amazing and you made memories every where you went. I used to have a lvl 60 Barbarian Shaman named Bonemane and I remember when I met this druid back when I was level 32 (she was lvl 54) and we had this crazy 4-5 hour duel. We were healing left and right and using our most powerful poison spells while using potions. Honestly I'd say that was the best pvp experience I ever had in any game (and she was over 20 levels higher than me!!!). ![]() Noble and true, you are the hero other heroes aspire to be. Goddamn make this on the Ps3 already! I miss sitting on my comfortable couch and using a controller to play an MMORPG. I got new more comfy couches too so it would rock! ![]() Noble and true, you are the hero other heroes aspire to be. SOE really needs to come down on their pricing for this game and the original EQ. They could get alot more people playing with realistic monthly fees. |

I always wanted to try this game out, but when we got a PS2 for the family the kids cried cause I had it tied up for Madden/NCAA football the first month. I hadnt played console games in a number of years, and it was amazing how much better they had gotten. So I went and got myself a Xbox. I now have added a 360 as well. I would prefer to get a PS3 if I were going to play, but it is still quite an investment. After already shelling out so much for myself a 360, I cant justify the cost presently. EQ was my first MMO, and is still my favorite all these years later. I have played some EQ2, and would like to see some of the things EQOA has to offer first hand. To those that are playing...enjoy your time in Norrath :) SWG pre NGE appealed to some of the most psychotic individuals playing MMO games. The best thing to ever happen to these folks was having their sick fantasy destroyed, and being forced to deal with reality. Some still havent recovered.

I have not heard anything about this on the various PS3 forums however I have to agree that a good MMORPG would benefit the PS3 a great deal and so far there isnt one (HOME does not count FFS). There are a few in the pipeline but nothing yet that really screems "Come and play me !" Played & Highest levels: UO / DAOC (lvl39) / Horizons (Beta) / EQ2 (lvl 48) / DDO (Beta + Full) / EVE (5m sp) / Archlord (Beta) / PirateKingsOnline (lvl 24) / Tabula Rasa (EU Beta lvl 38)/LOTRO (lvl 38) / AOC 3 chars <> lvl 60 |

Man I guess SOE doesn't want anything to do with the ps3. I haven't heard a lick about a person MMORPG related to EQ. Its pretty sad really since any MMORPG would be a good seller on the ps3. ![]() Noble and true, you are the hero other heroes aspire to be. Actually SOE is not running good, I think. Vanguard seems semi dead and EQ1 + EQ2 also don't have that much players. SWG is also a sinking boat. I don't think SOE would risk ANYTHING. And yes, making a PS3 MMORPG is a big risk... Erm...yes. |

First off I just have to say that EQ2 has a very healthy population, now on to the matter at hand. EQOA will never be remade for another system. Why? Because SOE didn't make much money off it. SOE is in the business of making money. I think everyone knows that. So if I were you guys I wouldn't hold my breath. |

Originally posted by Shorun Have you folks been living under a rock or something? SOE is making 3 MMORPGs for the PS3. Free Realms, Agency and DC Universe Online. Just because they haven't announced anything regarding EQOA or any EQ<insert version here> for the PS3 doesn't mean they aren't developing any other MMOs. Hopefully they will release something in the future for the PS3 or even perhaps the PS4 (you never know) |

Hell even if its not a new EQOA (didnt see this thread earlier and just made one about it myself tonight after thinking about how much fun EQOA was) id be happy with an updated version of Champions of Norrath or Return to Arms(Champion's sequel).I never did get into EQ for pc.For me it all started with EQOA then a brief stunt in FFonline, then off to WoW to play if with people i worked with.I really have enjoyed every game related to EQ ive played and i also hope for a new version either on pc and even PS3 that can give me that fun and exciting feeling that the original EQOA game me the first time i logged on and again when i ran all the way to Freeport when i finally got high enough to survive the trip. That was truely when they game became meaningful to me seeing hundreds of others running around and/or just standing there chatting about th e quest's we had done earlier. Maybe we will see a new game one day.one can only hope |
