Serousley the game engine for DnL was fantastic. Even though the rest of the game pretty much sucked when i was playing the SoG paid beta ripoff. The thing is DnL had the best game world ive saw in an MMO to date. Traveling around and exploring was so fun it was crazy. Just riding around on my dragon, hangliding, snowboarding off moutains or just freefall base jumping off a cliff with a parashoot. They didnt have the other means in yet like the hot air baloons, and the other things for travel but what they did have was great. If someone were to take that already made game world and actualy develop it. It would be fanntastic. Throw in a great sandbox such as UO on the gameworld of DnL. Just the game world mind no mobs etc. Just the scenery basicaly and the means of travel. well maby no hangliding or snowboarding ( i mean how does that exactly fit a fantasy setting anyway ), but riding a dragon or parashoot when u fall off would be nice. what do you think?

LOL The funny thing about that... the DnL devs never owned the rights to their own engine! They got the basis for their engine from a programmer named "Pix" (who actually posts on this site sometimes) and for the first few years of development he was also the lead developer on the game. However he eventually figured out the rest of the people working on the game were liars, scammers and morons so he left the company. They were supposed to keep paying him for the use of his game engine but they never did and he eventually sued them, which was part of the reason the game eventually shut down. They had no money and fled the country to avoid facing the conquences of their actions. If you poke around this forum a bit you will find several other threads about this issue. And if you are very lucky we may even get some entertainment if someone like Solareus or Zytx sees this thread. They like to rant and troll about how they feel Pix distroyed DnL by refusing to work for liars and theives and for sueing them to make them pay him the money they owned him. At which point I always ask them to explain how Pix leaving the company and asking to be paid for the use of his game engine caused all the other problems the game had, like the paid beta and the third party billing compnay that charged subscription fees from people who already cancelled their accounts. Watching those two guys attempt to muster all of their limited linguistic skills to defend this awful game is always great fun. LOL ya well i only went so far as SOG that was it the rest of the game just didnt interest me. canceled my card and got another after i started hearing about the double billing etc. Luckily it didnt happen to me. I still say this guy PIX or what ever should take his engine or take the DnL game world and make his own MMO with some new devs. You could make an excelent sandbox with a map as big as DnL.

The technology that Pix is working on isn't just for games, I think he first created it to be used for drawing hi-tech geographic maps or something like that. But I believe he does still have an interest in games as I still see him post on this site fairly often. He recently commented in the SGW forums on the craziness that is happening with Gary Whiting and the MMOGULs pyramid scheme. So I guess that means his brush with the shady DnL Devs has atleast left him with an interest in similar things happening in the industry. Maybe he will work on another video game someday and I'm sure the next time around he won't get mixed up with any more theives or scammers, so hopefully it will go a lot better.
