So I have been a jaded mmo-er since 2006 and haven't really been able to find anything that I can enjoy since all games became "everybody wins a trophy" gameplay with the game being locked down so much. I have a few questions.

#1 Are they going to stay away from instance cancer route this time?

#2 Is leveling/farming gear going to be more group required instead of doing everything solo?

#3 how many different classes are there?

#4 what kind of flagging system, or open world pvp will it be?

#5 What are the different ways leveling to cap will be done and how long does it take on average (I'm hoping at least 6 months).

#6 are water areas the main focus of the game? What is there to do on land? Are there sieges every other weekend like L2 had?

I have only watched a few videos on it when my friend showed me the game a few years back (sometime in 2010). I said it looks cool but the current estimated release date then was 2013, so I am only checking up on it now. So yes I am clueless, and before I go do some heavy researching into this game, I just wanted some basic questions answered of a type of mmorpg that I am looking for. I thank you for answering the question about classes, but your attitude needs a little work. So feel free to answer or gtfo. This is an mmorpg website forum for players to talk about games. I stick by my questions.

I'll try and answer your questions..:)

1.
Yes there are instances in the game. There is 1 low lvl BG to help newbies understand the siege system and low to mid lvl instances on both the western and eastern continent. There are no instances at end game though.

2.
There are quest hubs in the game, so it is possible to solo but it would take an epic grind to get to endgame that way. Most players group up past lvl 15 to get anything done.

3.
In AA you have 3 schools to choose from :

-Players may choose 1 School at Char level 1, a second at level 5 and the third school at level 10.

-Each School has its own level, and level along with the player as they hunt, craft and quest.

-Each skill has advanced versions and costs coin to improve as the Schools level increases.

-Skills can be reset at a trainer, and will then cost coin to be improved to the schools level.

-Skill Schools can be reset as well, starting L20 iirc, and will then default to L10 and the school will need to be releveled. For example a L50 player dump all 3 of their schools for 3 new ones, although they are L50, their 3 new schools are L10 and would need to be advanced through normal leveling, until which time the player would only have access to lower level skills.

-Each school has 16 skills, 11 Active in the block on the left and 5 passives in the column to the right. At level cap players will have 23 total Skill points to assign.

-The 11 Active skills can be chosen in any order once their minimum school level is attained.

-The 5 Passive skills can be chosen, again in any order, but will require a certain number of active skill points spent in that school to be unlocked. 1 Active for the top skill to become available, then 2, 3, 5 and 7 Active skills for the Passive skills below that.

Throughout your journey you can lvl up every skill and school in the game. It just might take awhile to do that.

There are 120 Schools to choose from with a total of 110 Active and 50 Passive skills that can be combined. I truly dread the math needed to calculate the number of possible skill combo's. Good luck to anyone who thinks this game will be balanced...lol

4.
In PVP if you gank someone of your own faction or alliance his blood will be splattered everywhere(It's kinda gory) and witnesses to the crime can pick up the blood and submit it (just click on it in your inventory) and report it, and that player will be put on trial.
If you are found guilty, you get sent to jail.

Also if you If you decide to steal something from someone else (ie steal someones crops or rob someones house), you will leave behind footprints for each item you steal! (you are given a pop-up window to confirm that you do infact want to steal their stuff). Players can pick up these footprints and report you for the crime. Again you will be put on trial and if found guilty you will be sent to jail.

Every time you are found guilty and get sent to jail your crime points increase. If your crime points reach 3000 points you are considered an outlaw, and everything will go red and kill you on site (Guards, merchants, AH vendors). Your only choice at this point in the game is to join the Pirate/criminal faction on the southern island.

Killing enemy clans or factions are ok and you will not be put on trail.

5.
Anything you do in AA gives you xp. So you can become a merchant, or farmer or seafarer or fighter, heck do whatever you want. AA does have quest hubs for players who like to solo. But most group up to grind on mobs/instance dungeons.

The hardcores that grind 24/7 can get to endgame in about 2-3 weeks. The casuals will probably take 3-4 months to get to endgame. Solo players probably 4+ months.

6.
No water areas are not the focus, it's just one big humongous world. A living breathing world has oceans, lakes and rivers doesn't it ? You need to build a boat to get to other continents, islands and stuff.

Again it's a virtual breathing world, go explore the land...lol

They turned off the sieges in CB5 because it was only for 2 weeks and nobody was able to get to endgame. In CB4 the sieges were every weekend.

Hope all those questions help !

That might have been the case for CB4, but for CBT5 many things have changed and one of them is the easier leveling system...

For CBT5 it was enough to "overdue" the quests to reach level 50, there was no need to grind the mobs at all for XP. There were some people who reached the max level in 3 days (and keep in mind that servers were off allot).

During the 2 week of beta, there were already many level 50 players. so i would say that a casual gamer will make to level 50 in about 1-2 months, for hardcore gamers its gonna be 1-2 weeks (same as in themeparks), however for the soloers it will be a pain, they will reach level 30 easy, but after that they will die more (lose XP) then gain XP since its more of a group orientated game, even the questing.

ArcheAge has the most complex endgame atm, and there are plenty of things to do for people who don't like to PvP, for example:

- gathering and crafting (the best items are gained with crafting, so it has a huge role in AA).

- building houses, farms, planting trees and plants (some plants even underwater), for guilds building the castle and the walls on the 3rd continent, and all this in an open world.

- hunting for treasure chest under the sea.

- transporting gods from one location to another (its a new trading system).

- being a trader, buying stuffs cheap and selling for income, sorta control the economy.

- exploring the huge (it is really huge, other MMO maps look tiny to AA)  open world (it is truly open, no invisible barriers to block you)

- do instances as in other games

- do dynamic events and kill world bosses (these involves seme open world PvP tho)

These are some of the tings to do, if you are not really into PvP.

Can not wait for this game to be released. Finaly a game that might be worth something. Havent found a game this complex since SWG and i am 100% ready for it.

Anyone complaining about bad games and lack of content should try this and learn how a real mmo is played ;)

Bear in mind it is a beta, the XP may have been increased so more people could test the end game stuff, it doesn't necessarily mean that is the level of Xp gain in the final version.

AA has 8 races, but only 4 of them were playable during the CB tests.

The playable races during the CB tests

Ferres - Cat people race

High Elves - Self explanatory

Nuian - The western humans (they got the European theme)

Hariharans - The eastern humans (they got the Asian theme)

Other races but were not playable during the CB tests

Dwarves - Self explanatory

Fairies - Yes there is a Fairy race and supposedly a playable race

Warborn - Half demon/half minatour race

Returned - This is a undead like race

Dwarves and Warborn are rumored to be playable during Open beta, but there hasn't been any official news.

Xl Games hasn't said anything on when Returned or Fariies will be playable. Many fans hope they will be playable by the time the game releases here in NA.

CBT5 didn't run long enough for players to build much. But in CBT4 there were some extensive fortresses built. While it is an official video release, these are player run sieges, on player designed and built fortifications.
