"ArcheAge's fifth, yes fifth, closed beta test kicks off this week. XLGAMES recently released the latest patch notes which have been helpfully translated from the original Korean via Google. ArcheAge Source has the full list, and perusing them brings a few interesting points to the fore.
You better not solo that rabbit in Valkurm Dunes... or else.

Hopefully the xp loss applies to PVP/PK as well, thats one of the things I loved about Lineage II.

I think that the XP loss feature is a hot candidate for a victim of westernization...

I love the XP loss!!! There needs to be concequences. The trial system concept is awesome. Please let this all be in when its released here! Those who suppress freedom always do so in the name of law and order - John V. Lindsay |

I hope the game does come to the West and I hope it does remain unchanged, as long as there is a Western data center to connect to - XP loss on death from lag monsters 'cause we're pinging to Korea is NO fun.

YESSSSSSS
Bring back harsh death penalty, i miss the thrill of surviving like i did in Shadowbane or Lineage. Unlike most modern MMO all you lose is little bit of moneys, it just deskills its playerbase, |

Originally posted by AmbrosiaAmor Awsome I love it, as someone else said w/o a penalty for losing winning does not feel like am accomplishment. And, no a gear damage is not a penalty. thats a joke of a system. A lot of these guys probably have no clue about how bad ass that tiny little rabbitt in V. Dunes was. You learned very quickly not to mess with anything with T or higher. and tread lightly with an EM. Waiting for:ArcheAge |

Only 5% loss on PvE death and you can recover some or all of it at a shrine. Doesn't seem to be any loss in PvP so xp loss isn't a big deal, not that harsh at all.

Originally posted by CyclopsSlay my knowlage is lacking with the actual numbers involved in leveling in AA but if you have a lager number of xp required to level at higher levels, and XP does not come really easy then 5% could turn out to be a stinger. Really it doesnt have to be a large number just depends on the flow of xp. Games that use large number sets just get on my nevers anyways becasuse its all just for show everthing is all about %'s anyways, so why not stick to smaller numbers? your spell may do 100,000 damage in one game but the next game it may do 100 damage, but if they both do 2% total damage in their respective games they are the same
example: Lets say level cap is 60, and you max out your xp bar at 299,999 (300,000xp would be level 61). If you die you are going to lose 15k xp. How easy is 15k to get back? I have no Idea, thats the x factor. Like you said I am sure theres ways to lower that 5% maybe like getting some type of revive from a healer class or someting. But even if you took a 1% loss with the best revive possible revive your still losing 3k xp with my example. How harsh it really is depends on how much you have to work to get xp.
Waiting for:ArcheAge |

I used to play MMO where you lose 5% exp when you died. At higher levels, it was like 8 hours of very intensive grind if you were good. I used to play a mage. Every type of monster I was able to get some decent exp from killed me with one hit if it managed to approach me. It did not even have to reach you, just get close enough and its aura killed you :D 5% can be goddamn harsh :)

Happy to hear as well although not a fan of XP loss.
I think Asheron's Call had it right. Corpse runs. 5% of your skills, per death, were degraded which went as high as 40% if you died a lot and the "vitae penalty" had to be XP'd off to get back to regular strength. Drop of items - the higher the level, the more items that dropped. And of course money drops as well.
Good systems that I'll be happy to see back in one form or another in a newer game. Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst! |

XP loss on death is a garbage mechanic. The only good death penalty is gear drop.

There is no gain from xp loss death penalty, it just sucks for the person that died and the killer is often just a douche griefing noobs.

Originally posted by VassagoMael I dont know if I would want gear drop in the game. Maybe after playing it for a while, it would be easier to decide. In Lineage 2, there was exp loss as well as gear drop upon death. I remember that sometimes it was pretty depressing when I dropped multiple items from my gear set. It took ages to grind it back Playing: Nothing atm My game concept thread: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/369707 (any feedback appreciated) |
