Yes it started with $10 million XL, $25 million investors in korea. Someone mentioned they received $40 million with AA in china. This game could reach $50-65 million when archage is done. so its safe to say its around $50- 65 million in development, if they use the $40 from tencent profit as well.
This is the biggest budget sandbox the world has ever seen. This game could revolutionize asian mmorpg perspective form the western players. Hell this game could revolutionize sandbox since the days of ultima online. It is the first largest budget development sandbox since well never, not one single sandbox mmorpgtoday has the size of archage.

Originally posted by musicmann What other games. ToR is the only game to cost more than $100 million. WoW was 2nd at $75 million in 2004, Rift 3rd at $50 million then Vanguard and EQ2 at close to $25 million. Put in perspective and $50-65 million is huge and will be the third most expensive MMO ever made. |

Since when did develop budget determin if the game ends up good / popular etc? I mean, who knows maybe they spend 10mil on company partys for beer and half naked girls... :)
UO had compared to above mentioned games, a tiny budget... And it ended up quite well. Cant buy Originality with money. Just need the right people behind it. |

well aa is not finished yet its in beta stage and it will be released in asia first, then they will find publishers in eu and usa. the difference between archage and swtor, wow, rift. Its the biggest budget sandbox, while the other games are themepark mmorpgs. Dont forget the director wants to replica ultima online as close as possible that was his goal for archage.

Originally posted by Outis I am super stoked for this game as well. And no there isn't a NA publisher yet. If it's say Actishit or Enema Activities the game will end up a WoWcrap clone with a cash shop by the time they are done with thier "addendums" and garbage. It will end up right at release more or less a Niche product initially. Like EvE. They should just publish it themselves (the Archage guys I mean). No hard copy just digital download it in NA through Steam etc. Something along those lines. Problem solved. God just stay way from the "big name" publishers. All of "our" (NA pub) guys only want to take a game , hollow it out and fill it with monetization gimmick garbage and run it fast and hard till it goes FTP. Then they move on like locusts to the next creative vision they can fuck up over money. I can actually speak a good little bit of the Korean language, enough to survive there if I had to etc but I can't read Hangul to save my life. :( otherwise I would find a way to just play on the Korean servers. |

There will be no instance in dungeons for pve, its pvp at its finest. boss mobs will drop unique items, so yea it will be really interesting to see who can steal it from one another. i would love to see if guilds will contest the pve dungeons and bosses.

It's 18 months away, let's keep ourselves in check, don't want to end up like the GW2 crowd.

I don't think it's a "Sandbox" with all the thempark quests, but it still looks like a good game. As for the budget I'm sure coders, and programmers in Korea prob get paid less. So it has to do with cost of manpower not amount of manpower. The could have twice as many coders for all we know. So you can't really look at it in terms of bottom line money. American developers don't have the same option for coding unles you want our games outsourced now too. |

We need a NA/EU publisher, or we won't get the game in english. Thats a big make or break thing for people, english. Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats. |

If they would open up Korean servers for western customers i would learn the necessary mandarin to ask people "give loot or die" the "pew pew" part is universal known mechanic with no translation needed xD So open up Korean server for the West ! -----MY-TERMS-OF-USE-------------------------------------------------- "There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic."
