Yes, I remember playing it when they were testing it. I remember Sony being involved too but don't remember to what capacity. They had periods of testing server loads, lockouts when they were full and periods when they just let the servers fill till they crashed. The servers normally locked at 200 users each, lol. A far cry from what is possible nowadays. When we heard it was going to be a pay to play game and going to stores me and my friends backed off. I remember having town meetings to do somethign about the guys that were exploiting the Vampiric Staff by using it on NPC's to charge up their hitpoints and damage. It was a fun game and you can tell it was the baseline by which other games were made, including EQ, Daoc, anarchy online, and even SWG. The combat itself was very much like the old Ultima Underworld... if any of you remember that title... |
