I have played this game a lot over the last week. It has a couple serious problems.

1. Once you move up to a tier 3 or 4 tank it starts mixing you in with tier 8 and 9 tanks. So, your Panzer 4 tank is going up against Panthers, Tigers, Tiger 2s, ISs, KV1-3s, T-44s in large quantity. The result is that you shoot them in the rear and they laugh then one shot you anywhere. Up to 50 or 60 percent of the opposite team have these tanks. There is no avoiding them as they are close to your speed so once you see each other, ( and that is how it works), you have to try to turn to avoid them. This kills all your speed. If you try to over run they just ram and destroy you or immobilize you, then kill you at there leasuire. That is if the SPGs don't get you.

Now, in order to get to a high tier, heavy, tank you have to unlock the tech trees. You can get between 100 and 600 experience points each match. To move from a Pz4 tank to a KV3602, one step up, costs 27000 exp points. That is just that step, you have to pay for different components first to get there. As a result you will be spending a HUGE amount of your life letting other players have prison sex with you. If you enjoy being constantly raped then play it.

2. Self Propelled Guns are the indirect artillary types in the game. Once you see an enemy they can shoot at it from far away. As a result if you stop for an instant, if you get rammed, try to go up hill or ambush camp they will rape you instantly...one shot you usually. Image you have set up a tank for a perfect shot in your tank destroyer, you have been waiting patiently or been hunting him. Just as you go to fire he is spotted by you and every SPG on your team pops him. Or you are having an intense turning battle with an enemy, you have shot back and forth and just as you go for the kill...he gets blasted by an SPG taking your kill points. This happens in all the tiers CONSTANTLY. The game feels very unrewarding.

That is the reality of World of Tanks. That said however, if you stay below tier 3 the game is actually very fun and addicting. The tanks are fast and dont do a lot of damage to each other so it is pretty fun to zip around shooting like crazy at each other. But, once you move up you just get constantly raped by heavy tanks.

The last patch had a softwipe, meaning people would get all the experience they had accumulated refunded, along with any money their current tanks were worth. This resulted in WAY too many high tier tanks than there should be. By playing on the russian servers you would instantly notice a lot more balance.

Also, tank handling differs per tank and outfitting. Don't expect your PzIV to handle as fast like say, a T34-85. That said, I have seen plenty of medium tank wolfpacks beat the shit out of heavy tanks, it all comes down to teamwork.

Now, in order to get to a high tier, heavy, tank you have to unlock the tech trees. You can get between 100 and 600 experience points each match. I have had experience rates of up to 1500. The weird thing, though, is how the system rewards you, which is still very vague. Other than that, it's simply a progressive system, having to unlock things before moving onto higher tier tanks. If you don't like this, then, well, you don't like MMO's in general? Not saying WoT is an MMO though (Atleast I don't think it is).

Which is why scout tanks are so important. SPG's should be on everyone's kill list, on spot #1. If no one is scouting their SPG's (And if none of your SPG's are targetting theirs), you lose. They have recently limited the number of SPG's allowed in a battle though, which makes it less likely you will be targeted, unless you're one of those twats that rushes in when the battle starts.

It is good to hear they are limiting the number of SPGs but as of yesterday I am still seeing five or six in a match which is still way to many. Two or three would be best I think but I would have to play test it to be sure.

I don't mind the advancement system, it is a pretty cool idea but not if I am stuck in it getting owned in every battle by tier 8s. You can't really enjoy each tier because you are in a hurry to get into something more "competitive". I think if they limited matches to only include a narrow tier range that would be better, having a match with a tier range of four or five tiers is to wide. In the very few matches that only had one heavy or none I did very well usually killing atleast 3 same tier tanks. As for the tactics you describe I image they would work well if everyone had any inkling of working together instead of doing their own things. Except for a few people in platoons there is never or very rarily any teamwork like you describe. 1500 exp points sounds great although the most I have ever received is in the 600s and I average mid 100s in the high tier matches and mid 300s in lower tier.

I'm just starting to look at this one, but I get the impression that  it's not a grab your tank and run into the fight game.  If you are going to excel, then you are going to need a group of guys that play together a lot and have a balance of types.

The  vast difference in class of tanks could be a major problem, but I'm assuming that this will be ironed out before it goes live. (always the optimist :).

I have applied for the beta, but in case I don't get in would enjoy hearing more comments or what you that are playing it think.

Loving the game. 90% of the time when I die it is because I have done something stupid. And probably half of those deaths are because I panicked in a bad situation. Do you know how long it's been since any game has made me panic? When was the last time you panicked in an MMO? Yet this game regularly presents me with situations where my heart is racing. Helpful hints: Watch your teammates positions Spread yourself out for coverage but close enough to cover each other Advance slow! There are plenty of dingbats rushing forward to become your targets. Don't rush for contact. Use cover. Don't expect everyone to play like you do. Some pay to cap, some play to hunt. Just enjoy yourself!

Life is hard isnt it :-), let me give you a hint when fighting higher tier vehicles stick together with others and try not to draw attention to yourself, time the shots and wait for them to fire at someone else (if possible) then make your move and after that withdraw and repeat. Also the cash/exp you get from higher tiers are superior to killing someone of your own tier or lower. As for the SPGs dont stay in one place, after you fired move (into cover if you can) and dont keep still and have lots of allies around you cause being alone even in a superior vehicle will ultimately kill you

Now, in order to get to a high tier, heavy, tank you have to unlock the tech trees. You can get between 100 and 600 experience points each match. I average 746 exp a battle (342) and gained a max. of 1989. Needless to say 27.000 exp is not much, Ive been working my way for the VK4502 and my problem is the cash, not the exp. Also if you are having problems gaining exp/cash switch tank class, maybe light/medium/hvy/SPG isnt for you, pick another class and try your luck. For instance I love the hetzer I just got, its slow as a turtle with the hp of a loltractor however its 10,5cm cannon really packs a punch, theres not a single vehicle it wont penetrate. Or play with the T1 Bison SPG, it does surprisingly high damage and with mine Ive killed TigersII as well as IS and kv tanks with it.

2. Self Propelled Guns are the indirect artillary types in the game. Once you see an enemy they can shoot at it from far away. SPGs hurt I know I play my main as a heavy and even those T1 can knock out vital systems or injur crewmen however if you stay comp. still (with TD) or keep on moving as well as turning its a really pain in the arse to hit especially with the higher tier artillery, just dont get seen, get in cover and stay there or do the exact opposite and charge them (pref in cover) and remember to switch pos as soon as you have been revealed.

As for the SPGs well... the rounds they use costs.. alot. Before whipe I had my main as a hummel and I couldnt make it to go + the pricetag on the shells were too high and I recon the even more advanced SPGs are even more expensive to fire with. Every miss hurts, remember that when playing against em, youl treasure everyone of them (misses) trust me

That is the reality of World of Tanks. That said however, if you stay below tier 3 the game is actually very fun and addicting. WoT T2 is a lot of fun actually.. a bit shallow though, the point of the game is pretty much progress so digging yourself down on the lower tiers would be a mistake.. altough I play them as well once in awhile, its great fun.

This game requires a lot of patience and experience to get into and as well teamwork, if you try to play it solo youve lost before you even begun, anyway good luck to you and Il see you on the battlefield

Whining on a game that :

1. Isn't heavily team focused (you can spend whole battle in a bush and care for no one or charge in with friends and die fast),

2. Have no special skills and premium advantages (except for 50% faster exp and money),

3. You can play at your own suiting pace (slowly, 10-20 games per day and still get somewhere far at the end of the week),

4. Gives you free gold each day (currently in beta) so you don't have to grind for exp or credits that much (if you call grind playing);

is quite ungrateful. I think you troll and speak nonsense.  This game is a complete fun all the way.

Oh and one more advice. Learn how to play before whining. ;)

This game does have issues that I would like to see fixed but Tank Ace?  Seriously?  Have you seen the videos for that game?

Currently SPGs can nuke anything in the open.  Until they fix it, you have to play corners.  Notice, though, that this game is about winning and not killing.  You get far more exp from damaging than any other means.  Getting the final kill or capping a base gives you some extra exp but not much at all.

In each team, there are tanks of different strength. Sometimes you are one of the stronger tanks, sometimes you are one of the weaker tanks. Even if you are one of the weaker tanks, you can still do useful stuff, like scout, shoot at tracks or in the rear of larger tanks, destroy artillery, cap, or whatever. The only way to avoid such mixed teams would be by having each team consist of exactly the same types of tanks. That would then result in a far longer waiting time for matches to start, since it takes longer for such perfect matches to build up. In addition, one-shotting smaller tanks doesn't always work. Earlier today I was sitting in my KV-3 and was the largest tank in the match. A smaller tank came by, was heading towards our artillery. I shot at him, hit him, and he drove on. Happens. That's just a matter of luck. Also I am now doing fairly well in destroying heavy tanks, such as KV, KV-3 or IS (so not the super-heavy ones) with my medium t-28 tank.

Now, in order to get to a high tier, heavy, tank you have to unlock the tech trees. You can get between 100 and 600 experience points each match. To move from a Pz4 tank to a KV3602, one step up, costs 27000 exp points. T

I agree, the grind can be annoying. However, 100 to 600 ain't true. Even with my medium t-28 tank I got up to 1500 XP in a single match, of course with the xp-bonus bought. But 100? You get that little only if you basically self-destruct and never do anything useless. Also, once a tank has all his stuff researched, you can use the XP that tank gains to buy upgrades for any other of your tanks.

2. Self Propelled Guns are the indirect artillary types in the game. Once you see an enemy they can shoot at it from far away. As a result if you stop for an instant, if you get rammed, try to go up hill or ambush camp they will rape you instantly...one shot you usually

*sigh* As I said in another post: I really have the feeling that 90% of the people who complain about arty never played it. First, you can defend against arty. If you stand still, do so behind cover or in forests. If you move, then don't drive the most predictable way.

Also, arty got a buttload of disadvantages:

- low amount of ammunition (depending on the arty you can easily run out of ammo in a match)

- most dependant on teammates (I sometimes sit there with my su-8, and wait for my teammates to scout out opposing arty, so I can destroy it.  But they dont. And sometimes all my teammates rush around one flank of the battlefield, leave the other open, and one or two small tanks come through on that side and destroy me)

- hard to aim. First, the target has to be spotted by teammates. Then you have to be looking in the same direction, since rotating your arty often takes a long time. Then the target shouldn't be behind cover (destroyed tanks, mountains, rocks, building, forests, hillsides etc) and shouldn't be moving too fast. If the target is too close, you are mostly dead anyway because you are spotted and it's very hard for you to hit. If the target is out of range, bad luck too. If it's in range and far away, then the shell can take a very long time until it impacts, so you have to guess where the target might move to

- even IF you hit the target, most often it's not instantly destroyed. It IS instantly destroyed, IF you are one of the largest vehicle in your team, and you shoot at something vulnerable (arty, some of the tank destroyers, or a very small tank). I was often chipping away chunks of around 5% each with my arty per shot, on larger tanks.

Combine all that, and artys are NOT overpowered.

You just got to learn how to deal with them. I don't know yet myself how much I will play the game once it's released. Right now I think it's a lot of fun, even though my largest heavy tank is just an KV-3, and I get every now and then matched against an IS-7 or a Mouse. I guess it will depend on how much it costs.

So, about arty beeing overpowered, I'll just now play a round of WoT with my arty and will tell you what that looks like from an artys point of view. I play the game since a few weeks, but not excessively, just every now and then. I got a t-28 medium tank, a KV-3 heavy tank, a SU-85 tank destroyer and a SU-8 arty. Everything just mediocre stuff. It took me quite a while to save for the arty, and since I hadn't play the beta for some days, I accumulated quite some gold, which I spent on training my artys crew.

Map: Pagoriki (with the sea in the west, and the hill in the center). I'm the 5th weakest vehicle int he team.

I first find a place to hide behind a hut. Since the opposing team got a buttload of artys, I wait for our scouts to find the enemy arty. I could start attacking some tanks in the center, but the reload time is so long, that I'd then be not able to shoot at the enemy arty for a while, if it gets discovered.

However, our scouts all die before they can discover any arty of the opponent. Also, our tanks in the center are too slow, and cant reach the top of the hill before the enemy does. I shoot at a place where I guess that an arty could be there, since I saw a shot coming from roughly that direction, but hit nothing. Then I aim back into the center. Since the enemies are already on the hill, and our tanks ain't, the enemy has the best line of sight. I'm discovered, and dead.

Woah I'm so overpowered as arty.

Next battle:

Komarin, with the forest on the island in the center, and the cap areas on the east and west. I'm in matters of power in the middle of our team. I drive into the forest to hide, and then start aiming at the tanks rushing through the center. The first shot of mine misses. Waiting for reload.... lalalala... wait wait wait.... ah, another shot. I target an enemy tank standing still. While my shell is in the air, a shell of another arty kills the tank. Another shot wasted. Wait wait wait for reload... wait wait.... I aim at an IS-3. I critical hit it for... 20% damage. Yeeeeha, 20%! Four more and I have destroyed a single tank! Did I mention the crew of this arty is maxed in matters of training? Oh wait, one scout of the opponents came through. I'm discovered, and dead.

Next battle:

The map with the forest on the right, town in center, hills on the west. I find a place to hide. Then I aim at a smaller tank, miss it by about 2m, it's just driving too fast. Since enough friendly tanks are nearby I don't consider it a threat and aim at easier targets. A KV is standing still in the city, next to a building. It's not fully in cover though, so I can aim at it's edge, hit and destroy it. Next another smaller heavy tank is standing still because of destroyed tracks. When my shell arrives, it's already at 20% health, and my shot finishes it off. Then some SU-something tank destroyer drives around in the city. It's already at 30%, it's slow and very lightly armored, so I pick it off too.

At that moment an opposing tank approaches the place where me and another arty hide. Since no other tank is nearby (protect the arty anyone?) he picks off the arty in front of me. I directly shoot at him and hit him, but he survives, and then picks me off.

Having destroyed 3 and damaged 1 tank, I got ~900 xp for that match.

Having destroyed 3 and damaged 1 tank, I got ~900 xp for that match.

i love my  hummel

The come out of nowhere thing is some sort of cloaking mechanism that the game has.  Sometimes you can be within  10 meters of an enemy his engine running and you cant see him.  Poof he shows up after he fire.  Others you can see their locaton and direction of movement  through walls and over hills.  It really has nothing to do with anything in other and arcade.

The come out of nowhere problem is maybe your computer or connection, very rarely see that.

Shooting though walls has happened but not often, and usually not worth wasting your shot trying it.

Biggest problem I've seen is the "uber" players that get blown up, and then spend the rest of the game telling everyone what they are doing wrong.........I'd put a spectator tag on dead guys where they can't talk and that would solve it.

This games in closed beta and it's really a decent game.  It's completely playable right now and for closed betas I've been in before that's amazing.

If you like pvp and maybe don't have time to be tied up in a game 24/7, this is a great game.....your tanks gain experience and coin  as they fight but you can play at any level because as you grow it matches you to the size of you opponents.  game duration is shades of left for dead....you can play till your tired come back whenever.  This one is definetly worth a shot IMO, see what you think.

Could be but unfortunately since the last patch visibility appears to be broken somehow. Warping got fixed but at the cost of visibility which does not really help. Scouting became also pointless and mediums are now balanced with their equivalent heavy tiers (eg. t44 vs KT) following the announcement of balance improvements.

The game remains fun to play still and I am confident it will be well polished by the time it gets officially  released.

My main concerns at this point are performance/lag and the lack of game modes (random battles only).

I was getting monster lag last night but the morning seems fine again....things like that and visibility (haven't seen a major there) seems to be a work in progress, so we need to keep them informed and hope they can smooth.  Balance is important but that's down to a fine tune imo,  some of my heavies have been trash,  but then I didn't upgrade them I went as fsst as I could up the chain and left them basic, so assumed a lot of that was my choice of advancement.

I don't want to make this sound like a reason not to point out flaws but always keep in mind this is still in closed beta,  It's not there yet.  A team concept would make the game a whole new level of play as all would be on coms, but that's doable now, just not organized, so thinking maybe campaigns against another group is in store on down the line.  Very happy with this game up to now, but you keep them informed when you have problems as that will make it even better.

I think that's probably as much as we can discuss this here, if I see you in game forum we can talk specifics, I'll look for you in game.

The game sits on my HD for 4 weeks now.

And it gets played almost every other day for an hour or so.

That says enough. Lotro and Co were uninstalled after 1 week.

I won't pay though as gameplay is not an mmorpg, but quite frankly the engine stands miles above most so called AAA MMO's.
