Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online

Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online was a large scale war and combat-focused MMORPG from Vigil Games and THQ. The game was set in the 41st Millennium, well after the events of the Horus Heresy, somewhere in the Sargos Sector. The Sentinel Devices that helped prevent the ferocious Warp Storm from unraveling the fabric of reality were weakening. The forces of Order and Chaos were arriving in the sector to either investigate and repair the problem, or take advantage of the situation in order to help speed up the process.

In true Warhammer 40K fashion, war between Chaos and Order were the focus of gameplay. The game was to feature an in-depth combat system that allowed players to form up together as squads and make intelligent use of cover, suppressive fire and flanking. Very little detail was released about classes, only to say that there were to be no non-combat classes.

In Development, Just Not as an MMO

In Development, Just Not as an MMO - Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online News

THQ has been hit with massive layoffs and has announced that Warhammer 40k: Dark Millenium is no longer in development as an MMO. A few months ago, Kevin Dent sent out a message on his Twitter account indicating that W40K:DM was essentially dead in the water only to be countered by THQ denying any such thing. It appears that Dent was right.

Rumor Squashed...Kinda - Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online News

Gamasutra has spoken with a representative of THQ that clarifies yesterday's rumor that all 2014 releases were canceled. Warhammer 40k is due for release in 2014 and was considered one of the canceled titles. However, the statement by Angela Emery is a bit nebulous in that the official word is that THQ "has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO."
