Tera has, without doubt, the worse community in any MMO out there. No joke, it's at the level of the Call of Duty community. Racism, bigotery, abusive whispers, hours spent on talking about their genitals as they just discovered them and the whole communities obsession with the Elins. Just horrible. The free to play community at its worse.

I find the combat nothing to write home about. Just because it's action oriented doesn't make it good.

Besides combat and animation everything else in this game the same as other titles, and it's done poorly. Terrible quests and such.

5. the main part of any mmo, the combat...TERAs combat made it a niche game , from launch

and thats, where it will stay..most players dont like action combat

EQN, ESO, wildstar, neverwinter, etc are all banking on you being wrong.

I don't hate action combat, but I don't play a MMO just for action combat....I can play single player game if I want some action.

I want something more than action combat in an MMO, and TERA can't offer it. I'm interested in EQN, ESO and wildstar, but action combat isn't the main reason.

My thoughts exactly.

People think that putting action combat into an MMO makes it good.  But the truth is that it doesn't matter if you put action combat in if it isn't GOOD action combat.  AKA, action combat that can actually stand up when compared to the action combat of a singleplayer game.

Just because it's an MMO isn't an excuse to have watered down, clunky combat.  Either do the action combat right or don't do it at all, IMHO.

As someone has said, Dragon Nest has done action combat much better, probably the best I've seen in an MMO, and Vindictus also is a cut above TERA.  However, I've never been able to get into those games either even with the better combat.  For one thing I despise Nexon NA.  Forever hate them for shutting down their best MMO, Dungeon Fighter Online.  Will never play any of their games again... but that's getting off topic.

For me, it was the character models & races. A bit too androgynous & border line perverse for my taste. Also, the classes felt limited.

Maybe action combat in a RPG style MMO is not nearly as popular as the people demanding it think it is.

I love the combat, love the upgrade system, and graphics and art style...

I HATE the elins... I have 5 level 60 toons decently geared, wanted to keep playing, but all the little girls in thigh highs have made the creep factor too unbearable. And more and more people are playing elins these days. Can't stand it. And now a new class only for elins...

Pedo's dream is all I can say. And I don't like playing in the same place as an obvious amount of pedo's :)

A more important question is: 'Why is this thread constantly getting necro posts 6 months after the original post'.  I am sure the original posters curiosity has been satisfied by now.

I liked everything about this game, wanted it since I first saw trailers and wasn't dissapointed by anything. The combat alone could keep me playing till this day, but the reason I quit was because of hours long wait for the highest level end game dungeons.

So basically the lack of interest from other people made this game hard to enjoy.. not enough players, funny that this is the reason.. or sad...

People talking about bad community make me wonder if I played the same game. I mean, of course people were rude, but not any more rude, than in any other game. I played on few servers and never got a hostile whisper ever. So I wonder where that experience came from.

TERA's not a bad game, it's certainly better than many of the MMO's currently on the market, but it's not what I would call a good game either, just mediocre.

Personally I found Tera's world to be small, each region was small, and there was no rewards or incentive to explore anything.  The quests were more or less all the same (go kill x number of each type of creature), and offered little variety.   Even the monsters were recycled over and over again, just given a different name and different colour scheme (though granted that's hardly new in a MMO).  The enchanting system was 'meh' overall and the gathering and crafting aspects of the game were no challenge at all.  I also found the storyline to be uninspired, muddled and a bit confusing.

TERA's graphics and combat system are both good and I liked them, I even liked the skimpy and outright suggestive nature of the female outfits (particularly the castanics) but it wasn't nearly enough to keep me interested.

Linearity is what seems to kill my interest along with mindless quests that requires no thought or reading quest texts to find out what they want me to do.

I'm ok with quest hubs but there has to be something else going on in addition to the quests, like gathering mats to upgrade my gear, or getting reputation to purchase something from a quartermaster, etc.

Too often these games are nothing but quest grinders in the most simple form. They make you do quests, that rewards you with items just when you need them. There's no longer a motivation to actively search ways to improve your character. Allods Online actually gives you a treasure chest every now and then, and checks your gear. If it's not good enough you're rewarded with a piece of gear, if you're properly equipped you'll get gold. Hand holding in its purest form?

Other thing that comes into mind is how different elements of gameplay used to be linked to each other, like quests that led you to dungeons, which gave you patterns for crafting so you could make new boots to do better in PvP, etc. If you look at WoW today, you can choose to do only quests, or run only dungeons, or do nothing else but PvP. It may sound a good thing at first, but this kind of design kills all diversity and immersion the game should have.

TERA has an exciting and interesting combat system, but besides that it makes every single mistake that made me quit all its competitors.

I have read all the posts in this trend, let me make a conclusion

The reason why people don't like tera

1.       Questing is too linear, story sucks, too much grinding    - main reason  about  51 people mentioned

2.       End game pve is too boring, only 1-2 instances, heavily grinding -  19 people mentioned

3.       Anime art style, oversexually  – 15 people mentioned , in contrast about 16 people actually like it

4.       Self root combat, too slow, repeative – 14 people dislike it, and about 37 people like the combat style

5.       End game pvp is too boring, BG is not fun, heavily grinding -13 people dislike

6.       Leveling is just too easy , not challengable  -  about 8 people mentioned

7.       Terrible community – 6 people mentioned

8.       Too little class and class lack of variety – 5 people mentioned

9.       Enchanting system sucks – 5 people mentioned

10.   Fps issue – 3 people mentioned

And the good part people like tera

1.       Combat – 37 people like it

2.       Art style – 16 people like it

3.       Graphic and the wolrd – 11 people like it

·         From above, I can see that western mmo players  tend to pay more attention on pve content,  the atmosphere of the game world, role playing and the variety of gameplay. If an Asian mmo wants to succeed in western, it should do more work to build a impressive game world based on western culture or at least tell a good story, not with meaningless quests which its purpose is to kill and get xp.

From my perspective, though lvling is painful, I played this game till the latest update. The main problem is lack of challengable pve content since queen and the battleground is not fun at all. My guild finished whhm  At the 1st day it lanuched, took like 3 hours without reading the walkthrough. Then I lost inerest to the pve content.

The battleground is just about zerging , no proper strategy, easy to get bored.  In addition,  I find the class system is lack of vareity. The glyph system doesn't help to change the playstyle. Overall, I think its the poor design  killed tera.  And a game only with awesome combat doesn't makes it great.

I've been playing this game on and off for about 6 months now, the graphics are amazing, the combat is great and the content it does have is good.

The problem is most of the dungeon and pvp content it has is out of date and not worth doing, which leaves only a handful of dungeons worth doing.  It has almost no content that you can do beside dungeons and battlegrounds, where is the casual content?  Where is housing etc.

It's a great game, I'd say it could of been one of the best but it seems to not have a very big development team.

I find it funny that they have made a game that lives off cash shop sales and the game doesn't appeal to the kinds of gamers that spend lots of money on them.  They need more casual content.
