Just posted a couple hours back it seems.

There you have it.  Make up your own mind.  Don't let other people think  for you, maybe it is for you or maybe it isn't but now you won't have to wonder.  The free java-based demo is too slow, choppy and grainy to get a feel for combat and environments. With the trial you get to keep your characters if you decide to purchase and get to understand first hand why on earth can some people enjoy it's gameplay.  For those who were wondering go ahead, find out.  (Or at least get an idea.)

Since it is only 7 days and some will not get past the 20 levels these are my suggestions for classes to get the most out of the trial:

I recommend starting Warrior or Slayer for Melee to get a gut feeling for its combat - dodging and fluidity.

For ranged I'd recommend Sorcerer or Archer for the Ranged lifestyle and aiming.

I'f you want to dabble with a support/healer/pet caster I'd suggest Mystic, at low levels it's little pet can tank reasonably. Besides, having a legitimate reason to tell people to eat your balls makes it worth it in and of itself.

If you're an explorer and get past noob iusland make a challenge to ride as far as you can through the continent without getting on a pegasus.

Ah, I almost forgot the smallest and most helpful tip of all:

To fluidly switch between UI (cursor, inventory and other options up) and FPS (normal play and aiming of your characer) make sure the option has a shortcut to one of your mouse buttons (generally Mouse 4 or 5).  This function is brought up by the Alt button, which I and many others find awkward.  I was lucky and the Alt button was also short cut to one of my mouse buttons by default, others told me that wasn't the case for them.  Shortcutting Alt to Mouse 4 or 5 will make the entire experience far more fluid and it'll make it easier to get used to how to move about. You can do this by going to the Options menu in the UI mode and going to keybinds.

(Don't think I'm insulting your intelligence, some friends I've known found this insignificant little tidbit to be a godsend.)

Well now you can choose if you want to be Elin or a Klingon.

Just sayin~

The TERA Trial is good for 7 calendar days from the time you enter your trial code. You can level up to 8 characters to level 23 on one server during the trial. Once a character reaches level 23, its a great time to try different race or class!

I've heard it as "grab my balls", and some people have found the perfect opportunity to state that they love "blue balls", but yes, mystics rock!

Honestly, though... you really should throw the berserker into the mix as well.  They're the one melee class that wears metal armor with higher armor rating and defense, they have a block ability, and their AOE attacks are devastating.

I'm already subscribed to TERA, so I have no idea if this applies to the 7-Day trial or not, but once your character hits level 11, your presence is requested in Velika, the primary capital of TERA's beginning half of the game, where you will visit a merchant that rewards you with a free mount.

I mention this only because the OP threw out the exploration challenge, and I can't imagine that people partaking of the 7-Day trial would be left out in the cold without a mount.

I also add this brief mention as it pertains to class skills:

Learning New Skills:

Every even numbered level (e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8... you get the idea) you gain access to skills from your class trainer.

At the start, and in most small towns and villages, you're consigned to either a "Tactics Trainer" (melee/non-magic using classes such as Lancer, Berserker, Warrior, Slayer, and Archer) or a "Magic Trainer" (Sorceror, Mystic, and Priest).

Glyphs:

Specific class trainers can be found in major cities, usually standing next to a specific class Glyph trainer.  Glyphs are skill enhancements you can purchase from your class Glyph trainer after level 20.

There is also a starter Glyph you can obtain from a simple quest at level 20 in Velika, the major capital.  As you level, you will receive points that you can distribute among your learned Glyphs.

You can pay the trainer to reset these points if you are not happy with your selection.

Chained Skills:

Around level 4, press "K" to open up your Skills menu, then click on the button labeled "Chained Skills" at the bottom of the menu.  As you acquire more skills, you will be able to create your own customized attack combinations by assigning a chained skill that another skill will trigger.

You can also alter the time that that next chained skill remains actively available on-screen.  Just go to the field to the right of a specific skill on the Chained Skills menu and enter the amount of seconds you would like to use that next chained skill.

The default key on your keyboard to activate the next Chained Skill in your combination is the "Spacebar", but you can customize that to another key if you so wish.

You'll find the combination that works best for you.  Some skills default as Chained Skills already, but you can alter them at any time if that particular skill isn't to your liking.

That's pretty awesome, every MMO should have a free trial.  I hope the same thing applies to other upcoming MMOS this soon after release.

totally willing to try this out. i think the 7 day limit is a bit silly, 15 would be more reasonable. however, all the other restrictions in place are perfectly reasonable and look as if they are built to keep the TERA community 'safe' from the obvious downsides of a free trial.

I always wonder why MMOs wait so long tbh, if you think about it the biggest dropoff in any MMO is the first month because of people who just wanted to try something new, were dissapointed or are game hoppers, so the world doesn't feel too deserted in comparison to before I think it's smart to try to bring in as many people as possible in the second month rather than waiting until the ship has half sunk to implement methods to grab people.

I wonder if on trial you could go to the merchant in Velika and buy scrolls to the other major cities Kaiator and Allemantheia, then buy scrolls for everywhere else lol.

Also if anyone has any questions feel free to ask away, i'm here to assist!

If free trials are released in tandem with the game itself they would lose a crazy amount of first-week impulse buys. Just imagine how many box copies wouldn't sell because people got their free taste of it and decided against their initial judgement.

What I was saying was, this second month, when sales have almost dwindled to a halt is the best time to implement a free trial, I didn't mean any earlier.

EME already popped a 50% sale on Amazon(CE edition ranked #2 in all games and gaming merchandise and normal #4 for that days sales) to nab money from those on the fence, then a week later popped a free trial. Was probably the most profitable move IMO.

Here is a question for ya:

If you do this free trial, can you buy the lower priced box copies and use them on the same account, or do oyu have to buy a digital license from the EME store?

That's interesting, i'm really not sure, I know they say you get to keep your characters progress...

Maybe you only keep your characters progress if you buy off them, otherwise you buy off a retailer and have to start over?

I'm not sure on that one.

Edit: To upgrade your account you simply need to add a game code. I have an old trial account from BETA beside my current active account, I click "upgrade account" on it and all it says is "Enter game code".

For confirmation you could always just open up a support ticket.

I asked the fine folk at customer support this morning before heading to work:

GM : Hi, my name is GM "". How may I help you?
Me .: Hey.  About the 7 day Tera trial someone asked me this and I'm not sure wehat the official answer would be: If you do this free trial, can you buy the lower priced box copies and use them on the same account, or do oyu have to buy a digital license from the EME store?"
Me.: The reason I hesitated was that this is all thats available on the infor page : "You can convert your free trial to a paid subscription at the En Masse store and continue on with your characters. But if you have fear of commitment, we'll keep your characters waiting for you."  And he wnts to buy the cheaper box copy sold by Amazon
GM: You should be able to set up a trial account if you are on a new account, and if you decided to purchase the game (retail or EME) and set up the subscriptions you keep the characters you create on that account.
GM : When you get a retail box copy you enter the game code on your account and it will convert the account to the real game.
Me.: That's what I thought.  That he couls simply enter the keycode from the box into the "code" tab of the account page.  But the statement that I linked you made me think twice.  You sure of this? You know how forum rage can be.
GM : I am sure, you enter the code on teh enter code part of your account.
Me.: Thank you very much sir.
GM : Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Me.: Nope, have a good one!
You have disconnected.

That is a great move by EME, alot of people were skeptical about the Combat system Etc but now they can try before they buy. really glad that the trial came out as soon as the first month ended instead of 1 year later. I strongly suggest that every single one of you try the PVP during this trial, simply Popo your outlaw skill and fight people around your area just to get a taste of the system. The pvp in the game is really amazing, always keeps you on your toes especially when you focus on dodging shit.
