The combat in this game is just WOW - I'm playing a warrior and having to tumble and dodge attacks to tank is completely insanely fun. I'm at a loss of words for how much fun I'm having.
I grouped with a mystic and we were having a blast tearing shit up. I hadn't had so much fun just grinding away mobs since my swg days.
As for the rest of the game - The story is garbage and the 'immersion' of the world isn't that great. However, I don't really care about that stuff so it's not even a big deal for me.
Obviously, it remains to be determined if the end game is worthy, but considering they have fun combat to work with, I'll remain optimistic.
I'm pretty sure this game is gonna be 95% PvE, but if they figure out how to make balanced meaningful PvP, I'll probably play this game for a bit to balance out what I get from EVE. |

Totally agree, I hope they can make PVP worth while too. Some open world battles would be so much fun with the action combat. Looking forward to CB5 Next weekend. :) |

i tried warrior in the last beta. and was very impressed. i normally hate melee classes, but to play a melee in this game, is pure fun. archer is also a nice class, but feels more tricky to play, but can imagine that anyone who manages to master the Archer playing style well, would rock. mystic, i found way too tricky, and somewhat odd. priest, my favorite so far. but my opinion is bias since i love playing healer classes. in Tera playing as a healer is actually the most fun and rewarding experience ever. sorcerer, feels like a true glass cannon. i heard they do the most damage in high end levels.
is easy to get inmersed in Tera. the world is gorgeous, varied, huge and open. so if you like exploration like me, you will have tons of fun, discovering new places. i love the capital cities. high elven city is actually a work of art. |

Insanely fun? Maybe for the first two levels when you only have one skill ties to the left mouse button and you only fight single targets. I played a Priest, when I leveled and got my first AoE skill, I thought cool let the Damage begin. But when I went to use it, misfire, misfire, fire. Two misfires before it would go off. I realized that my opening attack would go off fine however many times I used it. But when I switched to a different skill, the game refused it acknowledge it for a while (1 or 2 misfires every time). So I switched things around, and opened with the AoE and it went off fine, has a long cooldown. But went off fine every time. Switched to Left MB attack and misfire. The results of my test, use ONE attack and your fine. Try and use two or more and the game has a hard time. Next thing I noticed, limited viewing range on mobs and players. If I finished a mob, and all adjacent mobs were engaged by other players. I couldn't see mobs, say across the road from me. Sixty meters away I would see an empty field. Run over and still empty for 3 seconds The mob name plates would start to appear. Two seconds more and the mobs would become fully visible. Three more seconds and player name plates would appear, followed by the full player avatars. Ten second delay before an entity list could be updated? First vendor to clear my inventory? In the third or fourth quest giver zone. Imagine being in the human starting zone in WoW. You are by the abbey, but no vendors. So you run to Goldshire, and find no vendors. Lets try Stormwind, you make it just inside to where the bank and AH are but no vendors. So you go a little deeper into the crafting areas and finally you find vendors. To me this is the fourth quest giver zone in Tera. I was curious about Tera, but I never followed it closely. I played Planetside and SWG-CU so I am fine with the FPS / action game mechanics used by Tera. I know I won't be missed at launch. But I am never alone in noticing these problems, that should have been caught in Alpha Testing. Pardon any spelling errors |

If you don't know how to check. While in the game, open in Windows your Task Manager > Performance > Resource Monitor > Network > Check mark beside TERA.exe, look under TCP Connections, there's a column named Latency.
"Ten second delay before an entity list could be updated?" There's a graphical option that limits how many PCs are shown at once on your screen. If your PC can handle it, set it to 50 or unlimited.
"First vendor to clear my inventory? In the third or fourth quest giver zone." What? There are vendors right under the tower in the starting area. In fact, every NPC that sells anything from weapons, general goods, crystals will buy anything you want to sell.
"But I am never alone in noticing these problems, that should have been caught in Alpha Testing." Anyone else want to get this? ![]() |

Sounds like you've got some connection issues between your system and the Tera servers. Try running a tracert or a ping and see what it tells you. I'm playing from Europe (Netherlands) and i'm having no trouble whatsoever. Playing: EVE |

Its pretty and flashy at first, but i swear I cant get past lvl 10 on any character. Gets old very quick for me, and the fact you can't move around like a fps (even though the control scheme is like one). Not a big fan of the high camera either, zooming in looks good but you lose alot of sight, zooming out I feel like I'm flying over my dude...I'll be skipping this. |

Of the classes I tried, the Warrior seemed to be the most fun for me to play. Flanking and diving behind the enemy kept things interesting, and I also enjoyed that I spent more time looking at the combat itself rather than watching three bars of cooldown timers. filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community. Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

Originally posted by Loktofeit I agree, though I felt a bit more useful as a Slayer (more damage, similar base defense, and the ability to dodge). I tried a sorc too, and while they do a lot of damage, I wasn't really feeling the skills they add. They played too much like a mid-range juggler. Decent, but not great, and especially not nearly as fun as the warrior or slayer (probably the most mobile / dynamic classes I've played so far). I've also gotta say that the combat is definitely where this game shines. The combo system can get pretty interesting, though it takes around ~20 lvls to really pickup (before this you don't really have that many skills at your disposal, so combat gets pretty repetative. By far, the combat is the most when fighting epic mobs / bosses. Having a team of people all dodging, blocking, & evading a giant monster while trying to take him down is pretty awesome. That said, (/flame retardent suit on) the PvP in this game wasn't all that great. It's, to put it bluntly, a ganker's paradise. So, if you live for that style of combat (no risk PvP, where you can just go and grief whomever is lower than you while they quest), then you'll absolutely love this game. If you like more meaningful PvP, I haven't seen a single shred of evidence that this game has that. The big thing seems to be an invasion event that happens every few hours or so, but it's not really PvP. The mobile combat also doesn't really help much when you have groups of ranged casters just tossing AoE down (can't block it, and can only dodge once in a while). In smaller numbers it's a little more interesting, but I still didn't find it amazing. Definitely had more fun fighting bosses in SB, or epic mobs out in the open world. It is challenging, which I like, I just which the PvP was a bit more challenging as well. |

I've tried a sorcerer (2 star difficulty rating) but I didn't get very far only six levels in. I dig the action combat but being a caster in combination is not working for me right now. Probably a little trapped behind the standing cannon method of most tab-target MMO's. I've also rolled a Slayer (3 star difficulty rating) I'm finding this calls much more engaging. The combat is fun and keeps my attention on it mainly and not on cooldowns and such. I'm only level 12 and will play a bit more to see what other skills unlock and how they feel. I'm going to try to final Beta sessions also, the combat is fresh enough to have me come try out another class next session. Probably a Lancer or maybe the Mystic class. It's actually peaking my interest to see how GW2 does this and how the two stack up. I've got to say that it does feel good though seems like the combat is on a good path. I'm waiting to see what other types of mechanics the mobs have in later levels. If I get there before the beta closes tomorrow. |

@OP Glad you love it! I play a warrior myself and I am having a blast. Wait till you get up to levels 30+, experience the open world dungeons and the harder BAMs! They are definitely NOT to underestimate. Soloable? Most definitely not lol. The story is pretty good so far, they do have a lot to tweak in there so it makes sense a bit more. I do pay attention to the main questline from time to time and have come to finally understand parts of the Argon invasion. Community Owner of Alatreon

I'm sure it is fun in the beginning. Do you think that the novelty will wear off though? From what I've read, aside from the combat, everything else is your stereotypical themepark mmo. Is the action style combat enough to keep players interested past the first month? "How should I know if it works? That's what beta testers are for. I only coded it." |

Sadly other than the combat tera offers really nothing you cannot find elsehwere even in the f2p market, its why I am hesitant to buy it, I am thinking of waiting till it goes f2p after like 6 months or so, from what I hear its way to easy to get to the cap. Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either: A. Proven right (if something bad happens) or B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens) Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime! |

Originally posted by dave6660 I don't think it will be myself, good combat means nothing if the rest of the game doesn't follow suit. Though the combat is more intersting than most other mmo's including guild wars 2, GW2 is bascally wow-like combat same auto targeting craps. Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. I agree with the OP, the combat in TERA is fun and quite refreshing! Coupled with friends and an awesome guild, the experience can only get better. A fun game, In the end its all that really matters... right? Whats going to make me want to come back and log in? I hope its not because of a raid / loot schedule, that would probably start to feel like a job...
In CBT5 I had the chance to be part of the invasion of the Argons to Velika, I thought that was pretty fun. Especially with having to deal with groups of outlaws (other PCs) trying to kill you. I could barely make out most of what was happening ( 2003 Toshiba Laptop ), but I still had fun.
On a side note: I'm currently building my own P.C. to furthermore increase my addiction and over-all experience to the MMO genre / games. I'm excited!

That's kind of a loaded question by Dave since there is more to TERA than it's combat. I think the combat sets it apart because it's included as part of the package.
Just not worth my time anymore. |
