i love everything they showed here, my favorite is the Phoenix that damages enemies and comes back to the caster to heal him!

casting animation and voice acting reminds me of offline RPGS. i like the direction this is taking. keep it up!

I actually liked the earth magic the best but all of them look great.

I think you sent it to a target while it hits every other target on its path, and then it moves back to you, giving some (health?) boost, again hitting any other target on its path back. Awesome stuff, agreed :)

Churning Earth looks devastating as well.

About time someone makes the effort to get spells looking like quality 2010 stuff and not again like the poor caster crap still seen in most of the current titles.

Getting more and more excited about this with each little tidbit of info that comes out. The graphics are looking to be far better than I thought they would be with the early screen shots we saw. Looks like they are giving them an overhaul as well.

I'm not really convinced of the water trident. It seems more like someone throwing a bucket of water toward someone.

Also, for some reason when I click on the image above for water trident I get the phonix spell. However, if I click on their link and then choose the water trident it works correctly.

lastly, I can't say I'm thrilled about the little quips they make after they cast. Seems a bit trite to my tastes.

If any game has the potential to be a major contender in the post wow era, it is going to be GW2.

It will be our last hope in a dieing genre to bring it back to it's feet. I hope it does well.

I know we have SW and FF coming out soon, but both are niche games. Yeah SW has the cult following unlike the world has ever seen, but in the end it will be just for true fans of bioware story telling and SW fans.

Pretty much the same story for the new FF game, might be good, but will be hindered by the fact that noone really gives a crap about FF except FF players. It isn't going to pull in the world.

GW1 is already the most successful (that is partly opinion based) but we do know it sports one of the highest game pops for a free to play game.

I can easily see GW2 topping the several million mark on subs, placing it well above anything else we have on the maket aside from wow.

Eh? Sw ToR a niche game?? I think with the SW IP and Bioware's special touch they can easily reach the 1+ million mark and more and keep it, that is if they don't screw it up in the upcoming year.

But even with some innovations SW Tor will fall into the same category of MMO as WoW, I think. But I can be surprised, it's too early to really tell yet.

But GW2 will be the one that will make its own path, with its own very distinct gameplay. They did it with GW that sold 6 million copies, and every bit of news I see shows that they have progressed and build further upon it. This will not be just another sameish, bland MMO :D

Whether they'll be competition in the monthly subs department for other MMO companies, I don't think so: GW2 will be just like GW, you buy it and then you can play it any time you want without having to subscribe. So it'll be a MMO you can easily next to your other MMO's (time permits ofc).

Exactly cyphers! After they finish making Guild Wars 2 I think many will consider them to be one of the best mmo devlopers even greater than Blizzard was back in 2005. ArneaNet is just an swesome developer.

Yes in the developers blog they said it would be free monthly just like GW was. They have kept this philosophy since the first GW and have no desire to change it to the typical p2p model.

 Among other things :)

I also like the world vs world pvp, the large variety of possible team skill combos (1 person creates a disease cloud, another sends his pet through it after which the pet infects any target it attacks; or 1 person shoots an arrow through a firewall someone else created after which a fire arrow hits the target), the environment PvE quests where you dont need to group to do them with other people, and the fun minigames they add to the several cities, as the GW2 blog of yesterday and interview today mentioned.

That's gameplay footage, btw, as far as I can tell: the graphics have lots in common with the graphics and animation of GW.

Umm... no its not CG. This looks to be actual in game footage in my opinion, If it is pre rendered they did a poor job on it.

Guild Wars 2 will be a persistent world with only missions and your own personal story will be instanced. You will be able to roam Tyria and see other people who aren't even in your group whereas in the original Guild Wars we could not do this. It will be a very similar world to WoW and Lotro.

LOVE the spell animations! This game wasn't really on my radar as one to purchase until I saw these videos, AWESOME spell effects to say the least. The chatter after the spell or prior to casting in some cases is pretty cool imo, it adds something different, though I'm sure after awhile I will get tired of it and hope at some point it will allow you to disable the speaking portion. Overall, this game is shaping up EXTREMELY nicely and I am now definitely keeping an eye on this one!

WoW players typically have poor taste in video games, and mindlessly defend WoW to the bitter end.

Well, just maybe more with less excited hype... these animations are pretty ordinary, and the character models (at this stage) look nothing beyond what we have seen already.

Not saying it's awful or anything, but. I am just not getting the 'ZOMG NEED NEED NEED' kinda of posts I am seeing here in this thread.

I know what you mean. I think many are excited for the game in general, because it sounds like they'll be going back to the old philosphy of making MMos, rather than the modern WoW one, as well as some innovation. Add onto that good looking graphics and animations, and its got peoples tongues wagging.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Its certainly not the best spell animations, and let's not call anything the best ever long before the game even comes out. People don't like fanboys.

I must admit I am quite burnt from GW1. It was free so (at least here in Germany) the chat was AWFUL aggro and dirty talk of the kind I dont want to hear again. Prolly had to do with a game being free, which often seems to attract a less healthy kind of gamer. Second, the way you were always alone in your instances was also quite a letdown. GW1 already looked great, but I dont want MMO worlds where I am always alone in my personal world copy. So we'll see. On a sidenote, I never would play a mage ever. Way too squishy, but each to his.

well, this is kind of what I mean by objectivity...

The fans in this thread don't seem to be seperating their general enthusiasm over the game, which may or may not be justified, with a bunch of really average spell animations with really cheesy speech ('I am stunning' or whatever it was??).

I just don't get the excitement for these vids... if anything they just make me wince a little, just from the character speech.
