Guild Wars 2 News

Latest Headlines for Guild Wars 2

  • Why Echoes of the Past is Important

Players have had a long wait for a content update for Guild Wars 2, but the wait is finally over. This long wait is just one of several reasons players feel unsure about the games future. While season 2 of the Living World has made serious improvements, it's also plagued with it's own faults. Still, it has helped to keep your hopes up, at least a little bit. Echoes of the Past has been live now for nearly a week, and it seems that hope can grow a bit more.

ArenaNet will be releasing the anticipated "Echoes of the Past" update later today. No specific time for the update's release has been revealed so keep an eye on Guild Wars 2 servers.

  • A Call For Greater Transparency

MMO players come in all levels of ability. We all have our own take on what parts of a game are "too hard" or "too easy." I like to think that I'm reasonably tolerant of new players and am willing to help them along, but even I have my limits as to how much I'm willing to put up with folks who don't seem to have the capacity to learn some of the most basic aspects of a game.

  • Living World Expectations are Insanely High

It's been about 6 weeks or so since Guild Wars 2 has had a major update. During those 6 weeks, there has been a WvW tournament, followed by a 2 week pause. Now for the next couple of weeks there's the Halloween event, which is the same as last years. That's a long time for nothing to be happening in the world of Tyria. The next installment of the Living World, Tyria's Point of No Return, better be flawless.

  • Episode 5, Season 2 Message to Players

They say a picture speaks a thousand words and Arenanet is hoping that this one for Guild Wars 2 players does just that as they prepare for the November 4th launch of the Living Story Episode 5, Season 2. What do YOU think it means?

  • (Dry) Top of the Heap

In ArenaNet's last Points of Interest, the crew talked a lot about Dry Top and how its general design is the direction Guild Wars 2 zones might go in the future. "If you like the stuff in Dry Top, you're in luck," said Living World Principal Content Designer Teddy Nguyen. "We always look at previous releases to see what worked and what didn't work. It's always a process of zeroing in on what you guys really want. It's one of our more successful maps in terms of, well, everything."

  • I Miss Halloween

Holidays have become very important for MMOs. It allows the developers and players to breathe a bit and just have some good old fashioned fun. My favorite has always been Halloween, and it's just right around the corner. Sadly, there isn't a lot of attention being thrown towards it. The first Halloween for Guild Wars 2 was an amazing event that really set the standard for what to expect from the developers, which is why it may have been too good, as the following year was a serious let down.

  • Surviving the Doldrums

Alternate title: "Does Anyone Still Play This Game?" Yeah, that's a bit of a troll title, usually invoked any time an MMO is going through a slow time, whether real or perceived by a cretin who believes that any time past a game's first week, when the servers are jammed and everyone drops everything else to play. After that, though? "lol, that game's dead."

  • Why Looking Good Matters

Some players worry about how good combat is in a game. Others look for a compelling storyline. Yet one of the strongest concerns players can have, is how good can they make their character look. Forget using PvP skills to brag, some players dominate, and cause pure envy with just their looks. Watch out, because, these players exist in every MMO, including Guild Wars 2.

  • On The Bright Side...

It's still two months until Thanksgiving, but as rough as things have been in Guild Wars 2-land recently, I thought now was as good a time as any to "give thanks" for what the game does offer - specifically, some of the major changes ArenaNet has implemented since the game's launch, even if you don't take the most recent Feature Pack into account. Today, I'd like to look back on some of those changes and reflect upon how they've made our lives in Tyria a little bit better.

  • The September Patch Did Some Good

I know some will rage a bit because of my title for this piece, and I know things seem really rough right now for the Guild Wars 2 community. Trust me I'm right there with you. A few weeks ago I went over the idea of level gating. I'm not a fan of it, but still, the September Feature pack is live, and now that I've played it I see that it isn't all bad.

  • Creating the Un-Raid

When I said last time that ArenaNet should consider altering their plans for content, that struck a few people as saying I wanted raids. Or gear grind. Or whatever else World of Warcraft does, because I'm an uber-elite gamer who likes to teabag noobs and doesn't want the filthy casuals even scooping up the poo from my flaming cash-shop mount.
