In 1999 I played this crazy game referred to me by a friend call Everquest. Installed it,  got it up and running, logged in, felt utterly and completely lost in adventure, it took me a day to realize there were other people playing and running around near me that weren't computer controlled.

So GW2 is the nearest i've felt to that sense of adventure in 13 years..cept when I went to disney world, big kids are kids too!!

Not Bad.. I have a similar feeling, except mine was Ultima Online, then Anarchy Online.. GW2 has cracked that elusive quality that the vast Majority of MMORPG never find.

Infinite unique replay value.

Oh and its bloody Epic :-)

Yes,

originally people were fascinated, that they could play an RPG together with others. Many were very cooperative at the beginning. I remember e.g. doing some quests several times to help others. Although I had already finished them and did not even get XP from killing the mobs. But this was the main idea of an MMORPG for me - playing cooperatively. And I enjoyed it. Sometimes I think, that my biggest "success" playing WoW was, that it took me about a year to even understand the whole "I need XP and EPIX"-treadmill.

However, there have been only a few ideas to support this with game mechanics. Guilds, chat, crafting, the holy trinity and raiding. The questing system had the opposite effect in most games, while the whole holy trinity/raiding stuff produced its own problems. In the end for many it is often better to not cooperate with others or even to behave badly, because most MMOs support their behaviour with their game mechanics. When players feel frustrated by the mere existence of other players, something is going terribly wrong.

GW2 has some nice little features that aim to bring players together. Maybe these are not revolutionary at all, maybe we have seen one or another in other games already. But to have numerous such features ist something unique. And one can really see, that the developers had a clear concept in mind to make players think in every situation:"Cool, there is somebody else!"

Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.

Well said.

I think a lot of people picked up on this and feel the same way. I even saw TB mentioned this in his video (I believe he refered to it as an epic feeling of wunderlust / moment -to- moment gameplay). The PvE and WvW environment most definitely capture that. I'm looking forward to getting absolutely nothing done for at least a week once the game comes out, lol.

I agree as well, and I think it's because GW2 is like the only AAA MMORPG since the old days that doesn't require you to be led by the hand.  FINALLY we can explore again :).

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

I thought you were going to say "pew pew pew pew" :)

With that said some of the responses i've read here are the sort of posts  that give me hope for this game, the ones about community etc.

Community and content are where its at, devs are getting fooled into thinkng its about wackamole combat and silly interfaces, its good if your combat makes sense and your interfaces don't suck out loud, but thye're just the vehicles that we're going to engage your world with. That's where the money is, that's where it has always been. In content, community, and immersion, that's the holy trinity you need in your mmo.

For me GW2 is a ribeye steak with perogies with homemade apple crisp and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Hope I didn't make anyone hungry.

You bastard, I am fat, I now have to go dig in the fridge, I have all of those items and that sounds like a divine combination. Don't tempt the fat guy. :P)

The GW2 experience is also very close to Asheron's Call's.

I didn't get that feeling. Ocarina of Time, yes, I think SWG, after I had killed enough Gnorts or nuna's or w/e to get off tatooine. I wouldn't even compare it to AC. I'd probably put it behind at least all of those games and every Elder Scrolls game since Morrowind, and of course, behind IRL Disney Land.

But grats to you all, those that love a game enough to keep praising it. I'll have to keep the search going though.

In this world, there's two people...those with guns and those that dig,you dig

The way that Guild Wars 2 sums it up to me is that you get tones of new content that you couldn't get in the original, and they made it a lot more fun and exciting. Only 26 days till Head start, prepare for hours of play. It looks awesome.

I could see UO for me in similarities .... I would leave Brittannia and just wonder for hours and hours...between logging and mining my arse off that is.

Always was fun to find that one hidden place and then WHAM dead and now I have to find my  way back there lol

Guess I love how one thing just leads to another and another....it doesn't feel forced and so far no "oh great another quest hub" feeling.

God I miss UO......

I had that feeling in Ultima Online, then SWG, and then WoW.

Which is odd, I know, because WoW was so linear/structured but the whole "questing" thing was so new to me way back then it felt like exploration in a sense...

I find it very hard to break out of that mold in GW2 and just wander/explore... I really do, and that is very sad.

I see things on my map and I want to make a b-line to them and "unlock" everything... it's so hard to just stop, turn it off and allow myself to wander.

I really, really hope GW2 brings the sense of wonder/exploration back to me after all these years of following carrots...

MMO History:
UO, SWG, WoW, E&B, EQ2, EVE, FFXI, GW2, LOTRO, RIFT, WAR
Beta/Trial: EVERYTHING else
Looking To: FFXIV, ESO(meh), Black Desert (Maybe)

any game that gives me that feeling nowadays is a gem in my book because they are so far and few between.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

this is a great idea, your avatar is very fitting sir.

i will attempt to converge the two topics.. a game needs things that are new and fresh and exciting, the greatest ideas and funnest things can grow tired over the years... but just a little effort at innovation as Anet has done can sometimes make a big difference.  sometimes just seeing that a developer is even trying to do things a little different and spice thigns up is enough to cause some excitement!  marriages and games can have that in common at times!

there.. i did my best to converge topics.  and with that i'm off!

Lucky you... No game has ever given me the same feeling as when I delved into EQ for the first time, not GW2, not any.
