Originally posted by Roin Not allowing all classes or all races to be playable in the beta is not really that uncommon. Blizzard decided to wait to add D3s PvP until later and few people have complained about that, and D3 is released making it worse. |

A bit disappointing but I expected multiple BWE so they may yet appear before release. I mean we have to test and rate the events in those areas after all, just like we did with the other 3, for the sake of balance on release. Hiding 2 races with their zones for release just for the sake of 'surprise' would be contraproductive if noone were to beta test them. So have some patience, it is ArenaNet after all not Blizzard or Bioware or Turbine, they aren't full of fail and greed :) Sorry had to throw a random punch there xD My Guild Wars 2 First Beta Weekend "reviewette" : http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/4944570/thread/349125#4944570 |

Originally posted by Roin The amount of hyperbole from people uneducated about the thing they're critiquing is mind blowing. (<---see what happened, there?) The content is not untested. They've already said they have a separate group of testers for content people don't have access to in the BWE's. We're stress testers, pretty much it. We may not get to see it until launch, but it's still being tested much in the same way the Closed Betas functioned, prior to the BWE's. Not really. D3 isn't an MMO, so PvP isn't as big a part of that game as it is for a game like GW2. D3 releasing without it isn't nearly as big of a deal as GW2 releasing without it. For the record, I also don't think it's a particularly big deal that GW2 isn't showing off the Asura/Sylvari in the beta, either. Just pointing out that D3 not releasing with PvP content is just as insignificant as GW2 holding a beta without two races. |

I think we won't see those races until launch and I also think launch will be in August. My thinking is there will be one more BWE after BWE2 and also one more stress test. Both of these will probably occur by the 3rd week of July and then an August release. You may think that's not enough testing, but both Tera and Rift only had 2-3 Month's of beta event's with their preorders/pre purchases. My main resaon for this thought is that MOP for WOW will probably launch in September.Just going by the previous WOW expacs,5 month's of testing get's it done for them and Apr-August is 5.I think they want to get this game out before that to maximize sales. If not we probably wont see until October or so and that just seems to far away. |

It doesn't really matter. The point was simply to respond to the poster claiming that GW2 was getting special treatment from its fans. GW2 hasn't released unfinished but "another game" (which in this case happed to be D3, sorry D3 fans) did release unfinished. |

Originally posted by Roin Those areas aren't ready yet. They'll be available when they are ready, whether it's at release or in the last beta it doesn't make a huge difference. I'd prefer it if it was all in the open before release, but it's quite possible that it won't. And if it's untested it is quite possible they'll need to patch those later, which will happen anyway. |

Originally posted by Roin Or, you know, if any other developer did this, there would be people arguing against it and other people defending it, just like you see here. You seem to be seeing what you expect to see. But seriously, what MMO's beta has ever allowed all of its content to be play tested by the open public before launch? Unless you're talking about games like Rift, Aion or Tera where every single race starts in the same 1 or 2 zones, limiting the testing of a number of starting zones isn't that unusual. It's no different than sealing off numerous level 30+ zones. In fact, I'd wager that the amount of playable content in the current GW2 beta is greater than or equal to the amount of content that was available during the final days of open beta of Rift, just days prior to release. (Of course this assertion is nearly impossible to factually analyze. It's merely an estimate based on my own recollection of Rift's beta a year ago. I'm also not picking on Rift, which I think is a solid MMO as well as a well-received one, which is part of the point.) |

Of course, the two races I'm most interested in, Sylvari and Asura, are not available to test as usual.. ugh It's either they're saving it as a surprise for launch, or they're not finish with the content. What else could it be? |

I'm kind of glad I won't see the asura/sylvari starting areas, since those are the only two races I'm interested in. They will be fresh and new the first time I play them.

Originally posted by Roin Arenanet has been open about this for a long time. I know last fall they were already saying that the Public Beta events would only show a small portion of the game and most would be saved for release. The Public Betas are not, and were never intended, for testing all the content in the game. Most of the game is being tested in a closed beta process and that testing will get the rest of the game into shape. Which MMORPGs the last half decade have allowed Public Beta testers access to the entire game before launch? I can't think of any. The reason we aren't concerned about the exclusion of Asura and Sylvari from Public Testing is because most of us have known not to expect them to be part of the Public Beta. They could still toss them in for the final event, or not, but it would have been more suprising if either had been included in BWE2 than to receive confirmation that they will not. We could gain access to a couple dditional zones in this BWE, or not and once again, I'm actually expecting not. In 45 hours of play so far between BWE1 and the stress test, I've managed to only partake in a small portion of all content that has so far been made available. This is not an MMO where they are only able to give testers access to the first 20 hours of content, because to offer more would reveal how lacking of content the full game actually is. That they have shared so much content and yet it's still just a small portion of the entire game is impressive. Want to know more about GW2 and why there is so much buzz? Originally posted by Roin Underlined and in bold in your original, quoted statement. You said, if any other game did that, blah blah, what I said was, GW2 is not doing the thing you're comparing it to other games doing, thus why people aren't doing the thing you're claiming they would do. People who are reading and keeping up with the game already know what's up, not to mention most people have the logic necessary to know that the entirety of a game is not going to be accessible in the beta stages. EDIT - by the way, my original remark was not pointed at you, it was pointed at the hypothetical situation you presented. I.e., they are the ones that would be uneducated and slinging nothing worth listening to, which is why their voices would go unheard. Originally posted by botrytis Devil's advocate here. Two things. 1. Have they ever CONFIRMED all 5 races will be free? Being "playable" at release DOES NOT mean free. If they charged 5 bucks to play Asura on release, the Asura are still PLAYABLE at release, you just have to pay 5 bucks. 2. I highly doubt you have read "ALL" Arenanet posts before you have posted. Don't use the word "ALL". It actually means well...ALL. 100%. Every. Last. One. You don't even define what kind of posts, making that task even more impossible. All of the twitter, facebook, website, EVERY article where they comment on things? Should he read them ALL? :) |

You guys are idiots. IDIOTS, I TELL YOU! Sylvary and Asura will be available only when you open a rare box that can come in a rare box that may appear when a rare key drop comes. When you open the rare, rare box, another box will come up, with a chance no more than 0.1% Otherwise it explodes in your face and burn you to death (doubly so if you are a Charr). With the rare rare rare box in hands, you will need to go to the overpowered Item Shop, and buy a special Sylvari Key or Asura Key. If you use the wrong key, you lose your money and Anet will send you a mocking e-mail. If you use the right key (50% chance, quite good!), you will have access to THAT specific Race and Starter Area, where all DEs are majestic and have permanent effects, where Melee is overpowered, where dodge is always invincibility and you'll also gain a title called "I paid to Win". There. God, it is so hard to educate the unkempt masses! |
