Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

Yeah, she is a brand now for sure. I get where you are coming from. I Still like her though... she seems to be staying pretty close to her roots when a massive sell out to TV or whatever would have been so easy right now. |

I think the notion of identifying ones self as "gamer" is archaic. So it's kind of silly to me that people claim Felicia Day's "representing them" as a female gamer or what have you. Video games aren't a niche anymore; they compose a multi-billion dollar industry. And she's just another person making a living off of it. I also think she's a fairly decent voice actor and a snug fit for the role of Zojja.

It's an ugly truth. Men are quite simple, they don't mess around worrying about how much better they look than other men. Women however, are a completely different game. Being called a bitch stepping out of your car to go grocery shopping just because you're pretty is a great example, men don't have to worry about these things. All average looking women hate pretty women, also another completely seperate issue. But this is how it works, sure some of these girls are annoying and unrealistically pandering to their audience, but is it really any different than any other female on TV? We play our games in a man's world and if being attractive gets us somewhere then we use it, it's no different than what men would do were the situation flipped. The only thing as a female gamer that drives me insane is the sometimes complete lack of any social skills of male gamers. Just talk. Women do it all the time but these gamers something make me wonder.... |

Originally posted by heartless Her voice acting is okay. Nothing OMG blown out of this world type thing. I think most like her for her geeky corkyness in her first series of The Guild. http://www.watchtheguild.com/. She was also good in the last two seasons of the SyFy channel series Eureka. Again, thats another show that seems to fit her style due to her character being a geeky, corky person. |

I absolutely LOVE Felicia Day, but I am concerned about her playing whatsherface Asura-chick-whose-name-I-never-remember. She did great in The Guild, loved that music video she made (still makes me giggle) and her voice acting talents with quirky, fun characters is great. But the reason for all of the prior is that it's not far from her personality, she's in essence playing different aspects of herself. I think this was most evident in Dragon Age: 2 - MoA, where she voiced the elven assassin. It wasn't a bad job, but it wasn't really up to par with the rest of the cast, and I think part of that might have been because it was a more serious role. The asura is a bit of both, she has her quirky moments, but those who've read the books also know she has her rage and bitterness too, especially over the death of her mentor where norn-chick is concerned (I'm so bad with names ><). I'm not 100% positive she can pull that off, though I hope she can. "Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions." |

Originally posted by DarkPony Sorry, I tend to be very black-and-white oriented. I'm sure the whole 'gamer geek' persona within itself is a whole battle but as in real life, it's a different game for women. That's why I'm thankful so many men play women characters. If only real women played female avatars my combat log would look timid compared to the 'let's chat' /tells I would be receiving. |

"Exploiting low social skills of gamers is something that a lot of girls have a delight in doing." Forgot who posted this (maybe OP) but this is soo true. As someone who has seen this happen in multiple guilds and even irl, it really was pretty shocking the first time. Of course I'm not saying all gamers are people who have low social skills, nor are all 'girl gamers' people who want to exploit others, but some are, and the way they've exploited my friends before (I'm a guy, not that it should matter) is qute frankly disgusting. I'm not 'butthurt' or anything like that, just want to say that supposedly intelligent 'geeks' or 'nerds' worship sex symbols like any other culture. |

Originally posted by dreamer05 Uhuh. I understand. V_V There's a lot of desperate males out there. Got a taste of that on one of the few times I started a female character in my mmorpg carreer; a warrior alt, years ago in WOW. I got my first "r u a gril irl?!" tell within 15 minutes after first setting foot in Elwynn Forest. Stupidly I rolled with that ("for the lulz" and after hearing many guys doing just that to get people to give them all kinds of stuff) which seemed pretty hilarious to me so I gave that a try. But I couldn't get the guy off my back once I got his interest. "r u on msn?!" "so wher do u live?!", "how old r u irl?" ... Almost sickening how compelled some people are to chase women, imaginary ones at that. So I got tired of that real soon and recycled that char. Many guys are pathetic. Though there are plenty of girls using that to their own interest, you can't really blame a tiger for killing a deer either. |

I dislike Felicia Day. I find her not to be anywhere near as attractive as the net media makes her out to be. Sure, I like redheads, but if I saw that one at a bar, I would not buy her a drink. Hell, I might not even look twice. And her voice annoys me.
That and there's the whole 'game chick' stereotype. Honestly, it's pathetic to see men drooling over a not-so-attractive chick just because she's a 'gamer'. Saw that happen in real life plenty of times, and most of the time, the girls were just using that trick to uplift their own egos. Most were either unnatractive or uninteresting, but other guys would drool over them anyway. Suuuure, there's that one chick who's pretty, nice to talk to and with whom I have spent many nights playing videogames up 'til 4am or so, but that's one in a million, pretty much. And I digress.
Anyway, that's the gist of it. I couldn't care less that miss Day is doing some VO for GW2. Actually, I'd rather she didn't, because not only do I find her voice annoying, but it only helps reinforce that aforementioned pathetic stereotype. |
