The value depends on how long you play for, SWTOR was what £45 with a month, so after 2 months you are in profit.

why would u be suprised. I swear people on this forum seem to belive making games for a profit is a huge sin. And people should pore millions of dollars into making a game and just give it them for nothing

Really arena net and all companies are trying to make money and recoup there investment . Acting liek somehow nc soft is a bad guy for making them charge for a box when arena net wants to give it to u is plaing stupid

The cost of this game isnt bad, Its in fact in line with every other new video game console, or computer that comes out and sells a box copy.

Not really. It's the price of a console game in a typical UK store. New PC Games tend to cost around £35-40, but PC Games don't tend to be MMORPGs as feature rich as Guild Wars 2. Personal Story, Dynamic Events, Highly Replayable Dungeons, Hot-Join PvP, Tournament PvP, World vs World and more. All for £50

I know I just sounded like an ad, but I don't see how people can complain about all of what Guild Wars 2 will offer for the price of the full game. You aren't paying a deposit, like you do with subscription based games. You are buying the game.

Not even a little. Selling the game at a regular going rate for games and not charging subscription fees has always been their revenue model.

is UK pricing so varied? In the US we have 50 bucks for games that are smaller or 60 for all other games.. sure it used to be static 50 but its been 60 for at least a year, probably more like 2. I am also only speaking of prices on release, not lowered prices later on.

when was the last time you bought a brand new game? 59.99 is pretty standard for just about any brand new game where i live (canada).

Hype factor (for other example see companies such as Apple) and general inflation (for definition read a book) = high price. [Mod Edit]

Not sure about the Euro prices but the price in $ is pretty standard for video games nowadays.

1-) pay 45 to an awesome game without sub.

2-) pay 35 to a pile of crap with sub.

I think the price is fair unless the cash shop sells items that give in-game advantage.  Then it is basically the F2P with cash shop model but they are charging you $60 up front instead of free.  Time will tell on the cash shop, but it looks to be leaning towards in-game advantage items (chalice of glory, tome of influence, elite skills) as well as purely cosmetic but we shall see.  Defenders of Anet still think they would never do that...

Full disclosure:  I will not be buying GW2 at launch...

GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind"
1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN
2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements

It is not uncommon for games to cost 45 pounds at release if you buy them digitally. 5 pounds extra is not a big deal.

If you buy games often you should know that games are always cheaper if you buy them retail or buy them from Amazon. Amazon is your friend. Amazon always offers the best game deals in the UK.
