Since hitting 80 with my mesmer I have been trying a lot of builds out to see what grabbed me the best.. I really enjoy staff but I used it during a good portion of my leveling so decided to give other weapon combinations more of a try. I'm not fully geared out as i didn't want to get a full set of anything till I decided on a couple builds. I put this build together as my level 80 questing build and really love it. The burst is just insane and has pretty decent survivability. Once I get all my exotics for this build it should be one hell of a force. Did some small spurts in WvW works great in a pack or small group not that great for a solo roamer build though. Still need more testing for dungeons

The Build

PROS

Burst, burst and more burst damage for single target and AOE

great illusion generation

no real set rotation(find builds that rely on one or two set rotations get very boring)

decent survivability and 2 blocks

CONS

Requires you to be in melee range for the biggest burst

Not the most mobile build/no swiftness

Not good for soloing champions(GS/Staff is far more effective for that)

The Gear

Weapons: Sword/Pistol and Scepter/Sword

Armor: Still trying to get this sorted out.. right now I'm mostly Berserker gear with Divinity Runes as build relies mostly on high crits. Still trying to decide for accessories and how much vitality/toughness I want/need for this build. Still need more testing on this.

Playstyle

Max Burst rotation: Start off with scepter/sword, throw out your swordsman then swap to sword/pistol—-> duelist—->illusionary leap hit illusionary leap again to port in----> Blurred Frenzy---> Mind Wrack during Frenzy---> once Frenzy is done Mirrior Images---> dodge(for clone)---> Magic Bullet to stun target---> Signet of Illusions--->Mind Wrack

This rotation is devestating even with my gear which isn't great I'd love to see how much damage it does fully geared. Obviously it can only be done every 90 seconds but you also have illusionary Invigoration trait that will reset mind wrack so in theory in a fight you could get 3 mind wracks off in sequence if your health drops below 50%

Aside from that I don't have much of a set rotation which is why I love this build. Really just depends what I'm fighting, you can start off with either set and have numerous ways to start a fight just whatever feels best for you.

Utility Skills

I find mirrior images the only "must have" in this build the others can be swapped out depending on if you are doing regular pve or WvW although for the huge burst signet of illusion is required as well. For WvW i'd probably run with null field and either blink or decoy( or all 3). For elite I run time warp in PVE and WvW i change it depending on the needs of the group but usually mass invis or time warp. The defender phantasm can be great help when combined with signet of illusions for many situations in both pve and pvp. But you could always swap out for feedback if running into a lot of ranged enemies

Anyway let me know what you think.. happy shattering

guess the 10 30 0 0 30 is pretty popular although haven't seen anyone run it with the same weapon setup I'am using

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. Hi, I pretty much play exactly the same way,i just go 20-20-0-0-30 for more vanrbility on target for overal more dmg per shatters, since having 30 in dueling only benefits you with 10% crit dmg and bit crit chance :P

btw another remak on your build,U took 2 traits that reducde cooldown for Sword/Pistol which is pretty much doesnt give anything except more pistol ranger and more precsion with sword... you know 5 Traits in illusions reducing all Clones CD by 20% :P so pretty much this trait unlocks you all ~

and another note, since you shattery mostly having 3% dmg for each clone wont benfit you,so since u shatter,I reccomnd taking the 10% critical chance with mind wrack!

hope I helped  ^^ ,other than that ,great build :)!

this is what i use mostly,

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAsdRlwzaqXUzhGa9ICqHaH49dkU0awWJFz2FC

and for defensive play,i shatter and give vigor to all plays near you and u as well for more dodging and more clones!

I dont play a mesmer, but I always used Osicat's videos to help learn the class better.

This vdeo is crazy.  If you ever approach a mesmer then just die all of a sudden, this is probably what happened.

EDIT:  Aside from the mesmers who play on my team, I hate all others.....WITH A PASSION.

i use this http://en.gw2codex.com/build/24572-wxwxw but the site haves a small bug and on duelist trait tree its not I its X (create a clone when we dodge), this build haves a lot of survivability and a lot of burst plus we can swap 2 skills as we move to zergs (feedback by portal entry and mass invisibility for time warp), anyway mesmer need skill to master (easier then my main necro), and timed distortions and blurred frenzy are essential to keep your skilled enemies aware.

i can deal very well with Rangers, warriors, guardians, necros and eng .
Eles, other mesmers and thieves are a trouble. I'm only playing as L80 since 1 week , so i need more time to master this class and specc.
Anyway i discovered if i use no food or bloodlust at all , i'm even more difficult to be spotted, and can keep enemies target my clones all the time.

If you are playing against a player with even a slight trace of skill, they will identify the player from the illusions rather quickly.  IMO, the buffs from food and maintenance oils are too great to not use.

Also, I dislike the "on kill stacking effect" sigils like bloodlust and corruption.  I really think sigils like accuracy or force (or any "on swap" sigils) provide a more consistent benefit in WvW.  Especially the further you stray from large zergs and death occurs more often.

When using bloodlust/corruption/perception, I always felt compelled to kill all the NPC mobs on the way from spawn in order to get my stacks back.

Just thought I would provide my 2 cents on what you posted.
