Originally posted by HellSings You're right, it is about build and skill. In GW2 build just doesn't mean overpowered compared to other players. Everyone has equal access to the same stat gear. How you use that gear (do I boost Vitality, Toughness, Precision, or Power - or a mix of those?) together with how you set up your traits IMO is included with skill. At least I put it under the skill aspect to differentiate it with just having OP'd gear. Having to figure out what build works when is an aspect of skill with your character in my book.
And, to me, there shouldn't be many more factors than "skill" (skill being defined as how you build your character like I outlined above and the actual use of that build). About the only other factor that I think should be included is "luck" - as in you just happened to get that good shot in before they hit you.
When you have two equally skilled players squaring off against each other, their respective odds of winning that match should be as close to 50/50 as possible. |

Never tried doing WvWvW during all 3 BWE, because i don't want to spoil the fun. But what type of gear is brought when you enter WvWvW? PVE gear that is being used at your current level or They will give you pvp weapon+gear ( level 80 stuff).

Wouldn't that give other people advantage? If they only bolster you level to 80. People could have better gear and weapons if they are at a higher level than you. So in WvWvW, there is only PvE armor/weapons that you get by PvE? |

I may have overlooked the answer to my question, but I was wi.dering if gear acquired through pvp would be useable in the pve world. I'm very happy that it's cosmetic based rather than stat based as one thing that i was never really a fan of was needing to have multiple sets (pve/pvp) of gear. I would much rather have the ability to just choose what i think looks good. However, my question remains regarding the use of gear acquired through pvp in the pve world. I've read up on the links provided, yet I am just still a tad confused.

Besides that, yes, WvW is going to be unbalanced in favor of higher level characters with more gear. Lower level characters will apparenty be balanced to have a shot in groups, but the level 80s are going to ahve an advantage in WvW. SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |

Remember, if you don't care much about custom skins/titles and whatever other stuff you get from pvp...
It's built for you to play all the characters with. You don't need to main a character for sPVP. Play lots of different professions so you don't get bored, it's not like you have to level/gear them, they give that all to you right when you walk in at level 2!
Years from now when I'm bored of PVE/WvWvW or whatever, I can still see loading this game up on the side just to do a few rounds of PVP with some classes. Like playing a game of Starcraft. |

Originally posted by Vapors sPvp is no more then 10% at max. WvW maybe 30-40%, as well there a ton of pve content in it. Then the Pve there is tons jumping puzzle, mini games all over the place. Then the personal story line which changeges base off of what choices you make. Major exploration and hidden lore books among other sights to find. Skill points events as well. Ther Renown hearts is a guid that helps you, at the beg but by the last map(Orr) there is none of them. The map is run off of pure DE. Which DE at lower lvls only change a bit, but as you lvl they get more epic. On lvl 1-20 you fighting bandits to save a farm from behind burned down, which if you fail then it is burned down and another de will pop up asking for you to help like get certain seeds plant them and so on of those lines. If you beat the bandits through it will ask you to go find the leader . So small de that are newbi type of things. However, like I said as you lvl they get much bigger and if lost a lot changes. By last map Orr, you have tons of major DE all over the place about fighting back the army of Zaiten. (one of the elder dragons)(the biggest elder dragon have a wing span of 10,000 ft.) De will be kinda like WvW in a since you trying to take supply routs getting siege weapons ready. Taking over forts and such, and a lot more different things. Basicially you fighting a dragon army and trying to retake the map. Not sure exactly how they do it, but I think once you tooking the entire map back. Thats when Zaiten will apper. There a lot more in Pve but I think you get the ideal, so yes it at lest 50% of the game. |

People seem to be forgetting the tournament formats to sPVP as well as the ranking glory system that is account wide. You can establish your own tournaments and compete in computer generated tournament formats for extra kudos. these formats also provide additional reward chests for cosmetic rewards and visual pvp buffs (rabbit finisher).
For structured PVP this is the only format that works, people may not feel that this can keep you hooked for a long time but for the time that you do play it it will always be fun and competitive. When I was playing SWTOR it was either as an undergeared pvp player trying to grind out matches against better geared opponenets to get the gear to compete equally (no fun) or being the better geared pvp player on my main against opponents with worse gear (no fun). I am a WvW player through and through but the cosmetic collectables are a great draw and I'll definatley be opting in for tournament play. |

True PvPer's main goal: Fame and reputation of being the strongest PvPer or part of the strongest PvP guild on the server. When people see your name or see your character's gear they both fear and respect you.
A Truly skilled PvPer DOES NOT NEED equipment or stat advantage to crush others. The only purpose of elite pvp gear should be so that your enemies remember how your character looks so they know when to run away from a battle.
statted PvP gear only help BADS that can only win when they have an unfair advantage. Kind of like a boxer who would put lead in his gloves before a fight in order to win.
I hope this helps. |
