Originally posted by MosesZD Err... GW1 was a heavily instanced world, there was nothing persistent about it except towns, which merely acted as hubs. It was a lobby game; dozens of players could not fight in the same area. ANet refers to the game as a Co-op RPG, and so do most people. Not trying to start an argument, it just doesn't meet the criteria that most MMO's do. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

The concepts for the two are different because they're two completely different games. Not just different, but different genres. GW is a Co-Op RPG GW2 is a MMORPG
You can't expect the same mechanics to work in both in exactly the same way. GW is designed around single groups. GW2 is designed around much greater numbers of players taking part in content. There's no way you could take GW and turn it into a full blown MMO without altering certain core aspect of the game. |

I enjoyed GW1 a long time ago, but I have always hated the "click and watch your guy run up and attack stuff". It felt incredibly boring and unresponsive. I very much prefer the action based combat GW2 has over GW1.
I haven't had as much fun in an MMO in 10+ years as I have in GW2 even so far. So I guess I disagree with the OP. There are plenty of PvP things to compete in, and it will only get better with time. It is hard to compare an 8 year old game and all the content updates with one that isn't even released yet.
Give it some time, and I am sure there will be A LOT more options available. |

I'm curious to how far the GW1 concept could go since it's very unique. Other ames have borrowed elements (SWTOR, for example w/ the compansions you can gear up). I'll admit, it's not my favorite system since setting up your team is actually more important that what you actually do with it. For example, I can AFK Glint's challenge since my team does everything for me. (That's how I paid for a good chunk of my HoM points :P). I'm curious if we see another game follow the GW1 model.
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game. |

There are certainly people who loved the GW1 style of gameplay. This just isn't that game. That game could never be a persistant world MMO, which is what Anet wanted to do with this game. That's really all there is to it. OP likes Pepsi, this is Coke.

Originally posted by tralla Yes there is a lot of Zerg in WvW for right now, but that because it new and no ral groups have form. I mean it will take a month are two before WvW gets really fun. Second they have sPvp which is up to 10v10. Third ALL pve content was scale way down. Esp in the beg areas, did you get to a lvl 20+ zone? When it relese get to a lvl 20+ zone and you will be saying different. |

I loved the PvP in GW. I absolutely fucking hated the PvE. I found it fairly awful and dull both in gameplay, design, and story. So can't say that I do. Not that the lore seems really stellar in this game either (actually seems fairly lame) but gameplay and design wise this game is a beast compared to GW. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

Don't be impatient. Just because you quickly glance over something and make one minute assumptions doesn't mean you full understand the complexity of the game. Just bc you run with zergs in wvwvw doesn't mean that's the way to properly play it or to win. there's enough complexity in the skill/combat/trait system as well as some added twitch gaming to make the pvp hardcore. Also, map diversity does not equal hardcore. Look at LoL, only 1 map, one of the most hardcore pvp you can find.

Moving dodging combat vs static? GW2 MMORPG vs CORPG? GW2 WvWvW + arena vs arena? GW2 DE's vs linear quests? GW2 Fighting beside non grouped allies vs henchmen? GW2 Jumping puzzels vs not jumping? GW2 Multiple weapon skills vs handful of skills? This is the only thing that is close because of different build combos, but still have to give the edge to GW2.
Don't know what rose coloured glasses OP is wearing but he is best suited to take them off. GW2 soundly trounces GW1 in every aspect that matters from what I can come up with.

I'm sure it's not only you OP, but I can't be counted as one. GW2 is leagues above GW1 imo. I bought GW1 at release, and played until I ascended, but I simply never connected emotionally with the game. I felt no immersion. I quickly uninstalled. I then bought Factions when it launched, in hopes of finding something I missed the first time around, and I couldn't last more than a few hours in that campaign either. I just dont like the design of the game at all. i hate the private exploration zones and what not. Not saying it was/is a bad game, just that it was/is a bad game for me. I felt more immersion in the first 1/2 hour of GW2 than I did the entire time I played GW1.
