Server choice is a difficult one. Experienced MMO player knows that choosing a good server is often vital to your game enjoyement. Choosing poorly might be your doom , and cost you lot of money ;)

So how will you choose your home server in GW2 ?

I'll pick the server with the biggest queue as when the inevitable panic opening of servers comes these ultra high pop servers are the last that generally feel alive. Rather an hr or 2 queue in the 1st month than months of a tiny population following.

if you really want to pick a good server you go to different forums and see where majority of the larger well known guilds are going and then you decide if you want to fight them or go on the server with them. There is already tons of info up on which servers people are moving to at launch.

Usually just pick a server with the best name.

Hasn't failed me so far in every other game.

Can you provide a link to a source of information about where major guilds are going?

My first layer of choosing is to make a top 3-5 of server names I like, then followed by which of those has the highest population, and finally I check if there's any unofficial population group claims and which of the larger guild / gaming site communities go where if there's still multiple candidates.

The BWE's and stress tests I all played on Far Shiverpeaks and I sort of liked it because it's unofficial nordic server so of the chatter in /map and /team I at least understand most of the non-english languages inevitably used by some players on occasion. But even if most server names all remain the same, you never know how those will look at launch.

I beg your pardon.

I will go on the server with a nice community. Already found one during BWE.

I'm going with my fav area from GW1.. since the names are all from GW1. Can always change later by saving up some gold.

Thanks for that.  I'm going to have to go looking for a new server now as the guild I was in has exploded into a font of drama.  I think that's a first for me, guild drama before the game's even launched :P

In the end I'll check the population and go with a name I like the sound off.  Simplistic, but it's worked well for me so far.

This looks like a job for....The Riviera Kid!

I always choose the ones with "Low" population, which has a lower chance of my preferred name to be taken.

Are you sure? From what i understand, the servers that are considered "full" are not eligible transfer target. So, if you miss a chance to get your spot on a server that gets a lot of guilds going on it, you might find out you cannot transfer to it anymore, nor can you create a character there.

Being in Europe, I will do my best so my guild avoids the "unofficial" Italian, Polish, Russian or Spanish server. I've inadvertantly played on the "unofficial" Italian server in WoW (before they added native Italian servers), and while I have nothing against Italians, chat was spammed in Italian and groups were a pain, I even ended in groups where nobody would speak English. I also want to avoid the servers with the big 'popular' guilds, those people are often arrogant pricks who can seriously degrade the quality of a community.

Otherwise, I'll try to find a server with good population. The name doesn't matter much.

That won't do you any good in GW2, considering that the names are game wide and not just server wide.

the best way to choose any server is research , if you go in their blinded by some name chances are after you invest all that time getting towards end game your going to have to shell out a good chunk of change to relocate. There are already a few very good servers on release. For example Sea of Sorrows will probably have the awesome community out of most as its the aussies! and everyone loves those guys they rock.

Your ERPer opps i mean RPs will be on tarnished coast so if you want to pretend to be tickle me elmo roll there as thats where your fury peeps will be. Isle of Janathair is another oceanic roll server. The best server story was Sanctum of Rall but after I played there during Beta 3 and seen how terrible the community is there we will be rerolling ourselves elsewhere. The only good guild going there it seems is the large one its named for its members.

Just keep in mind once you pick and commit its like 21 bucks to get off it per character to another high pop server. Personally if you want to do world vs world , stay away from smaller population servers . Go look at old DAOC and Warhammer and see what happens to low population servers.

I will have the server list up on my monitor and throw a dart to choose.

The server name it sticks in is the winner.

I pick the least populated servers with the best names :-)
