I believe in life before death... So dont forget to enjoy it while you still can. |
Said it before and saying it again.
After playing it yesterday evening the day after the TSW beta, the typical fantasy main story and the character depth of the NPC's felt like it was created for 10 year old kids. Now its on par with the best fantasy MMO's so far, but compared to the dark story of TSW and the incredible and sometimes creepy character depth of the NPC's in TSW GW2 and most other MMO's and RPG's felt like a book you read to your children before going to bed.
Nevertheless, GW2 is still the most amazing MMO ever created, the story is okay (just not as awesome as TSW) and everything else is top knotch. (except current performance on my PC) Its just fun to play, but sometimes i felt a bit like a herd annimal running after people not knowing where they where going, but ready to join the action. Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

Well, i can say that at least when i was 10, i knew how to have fun and was always excited to play a new video game. Ah the good old NES days. I have missed being that excited over a game. So yeah i guess your right. It does make me feel like im 10 again. |

I disagree. While not terribly original, GW2's lore deviates enough from the usual High Fantasy motif to be interesting, and has a tone carefully crafted for its purpose. However, what sets it apart is just how this story is presented. The DE system makes exploring very enjoyable (although I'd prefer not having any undiscovered marker on the map), and when you join the fray, or start a fight only to receive the help of other adventurers, everything clicks into place beautifully. This is this game's strongest asset, so far: a very clear vision and execution on how things should be done. It's so well directed it looks like a movie sometimes. Not the easiestt feat for a MMO. I am a very satisfied 40-year-old 10 year-old. |

Nobody but nobody can realistically judge a MMO in a day, a week, probably not even a month unless it is truly awful. I don't care how fun the rollercoaster ride was for the first hour or two, can you see yourself doing it for two or more hours a day at least four times a week for six months? |

I pretty much agree the story is bad, but it's not cringe worthy bad. I wouldn't say it's for 10 year old kids either. There are some themes in the stories that aren't really appropriate for that age. It seems like one of the most disappointing aspects of the game for a lot of people. TSW is definitely amazing by comparison, but TSW's story is also great and better than most stories you'd see in games too. No surprise there, it has Ragnar Tornquist helming the project. I like gameplay over story, so the story doesn't bother me especially since it's a very small portion of the game. That's one aspect that GW2 far exceeds TSW in my opinion (though I did like the investigation missions, I felt like GW2 always keeps me engaged and interested in the gameplay). |

Originally posted by DarkVagabond I've invested almost 60 hours into the game now. It's still fun. A lot of fun. 60 hours for $60 of entertainment is very good. I plan to get a lot more value of it. I see it having a very long lasting appeal. Who are you to say I can't realistically judge a MMO based on that amount of time? I already got my money's worth as far as I'm concerned. I don't need to play a game in it's entirety for a couple of months to make a good judgement on whether or not the game is good or now. |

Lol well of course fantasy appeals to the kid in us doesn't it. I mean Tolkien wrote the hobbit for his kids but people young and old still enjoy it. |

Wow, this is a ridiculous thread. Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, the list goes on of franchises that can be accepted by any age group. Why, if it appeals to kids, does that mean it can only appeal to kids? Does not compute. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

Highly subjective attention seeking thread. If you "said it before" why make a new thread and say it again? The scary part is one day the world will be run by adults who were never spanked as kids and got trophies just for participating. |

TSW made me sleepy. Just Sayin. Arena Net was smart to make a game that both kids and adults can play. I know I'll be playing GW2 with my 9 year old. I couldn't say the same about TSW. |

I disagree with OP. In my opinion, the story acting isn't so good, if compared to Swtor. The actual plots and stories aren't so good either. I'm more interested in the gameplay though, which i like, but others don't. |

Admittedly the writing for the story's of the human's is vey standard. The norn probably come off as a bit too cheesy good guy, but that is the nature of that race. They all see themselves as heroes and try thier best to live up to it. The charr may come off a little too star trek klingon for some people. I do however think that those who may not be impressed with the writing up to this point may change thier opinion when the 2 remaining races are playable. Especially the asura. Im pretty sure that the writing for the asura will be especially witty with plenty of snark and sarcasm thrown in, which up to this point seems lacking everywhere else. |

I found myself much more immersed in TSW story than SWTOR, I think the story is more captivating. I haven't played GW2 yet.... so can't really compare, from what I've seen I think I'd like TSW story presentation more. Anyways, I was on the bus today and listened to a 15 minute conversation about jeans, and what color looks best with rips in them, and what's "so IN" these day, and five hundred dollar pairs of jeans, so yeah, I'll just listen to the epic music I listen to and move along with my time here on this planet. (Aparently white jeans is the way to go with rips according to someone not far off 10 years of age)

I honestly don't really care about personal stories in GW2. I do love the GW lore and the setting of the game though. Regardless of the story quality, GW2's gameplay beats TSW's any day and that's what I care about in a video game. The setting is TSW's only redeeming factor and it is pretty decent. If only the rest of the game matched the quality of the story and the voice overs, TSW may have been a day 1 purchase for me. On a side note, I didn't care for those New England accents from the sheriff and that old lady with the shotgun. They sounded forced. Also, some of the story elements were a bit cringe worthy. I'm not going to get into them because of spoilers.

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus a 10 year old? really? Why not a 9 year old? or maybe an immature 11 year old? Ah well, I guess we will just have to wait for the Pegi rating to really know who it was aimed at ;P The storyline is what it is, personally I dont think they should have bothered with a personal one at all, it is too limiting and limited. The atmosphere in TSW is the only part of the game that feels right, the rest of it is severely lacking, and the accents on the NPCs? dont make me laugh, seriously, do the devs think people in london really talk like that? A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others. |

While GW2 does not seem to be mature in story I havent found TSW either. I was facepalming many times playing TSW at their story / writing. Unfortunetally almost all games and practically all mmorpg's have sillly and / or badly written stories. Also very rarely they are mature (btw some blood and nudity does NOT make it mature - that not what I mean by mature).
Game of Thrones series is mature. Dragon Age 2 even though it has hectolitres of blood is NOT mature. |

If you are talking about the Personal Story then yeah its not frigging Roger Zelazny, Frank Herbert, Brandon Sanderson or Glen Cook.
But I don't expect that from any game. Especially not MMOs.
I can't speak to the story of TSW. And I don't care to get in a pissing contest either. But GW2 personal story is average for MMOs. And MMOs are generally pretty sub-par for my fantasy literature tastes.
I do like that they keep the instances themselves solely composed of the story element though. There is something good to that. Hopefully somehow it gets turned into something really good. But that is years away. |
