not being a fanboy here, just thinking realistically. GW2 wont be in a bargain bin for at least a couple of years, or until the next expansion. it's gonna sell insane amounts, and im telling you right now, it will eventually hit WoW numbers. it will sell without any price reductions, so retailers would be insane to lower the price. you can keep dreaming though.

If you were thinking realistically you'd realize that all the top selling games end up going for around 20 bucks sooner or later. Most games you can find new copies for around 20-40 bucks in less than a year.
Forgot to add that I will prob grab this game on the cheap down the road. Its a good game.

Sonoggi is right. GW Prophecies was still at original price until after the factions campaign and even then it only dropped to $40 and that was a year later. Prophecies kept the same price through the Nightfall expansion even though the expansion ended up being cheaper.  If the game sells well on it's own merits, there will be no reason to drop the price. If you want to see the price hit bargain bin, you'd better start hoping the cash shop plays a bigger role.

I picked up a GW1 box at Gamestop for 19.99 back in '06.

On paper this game is so far from my personal 'Dream MMO', but after playing it I'm probably going to have to reconsider what qualities I'm really after in an MMO. They seem to have thought of everything, we were continually impressed with the positive impact seemingly minor details had.

It took awhile to get used to the idea of not dreading the sight of other random people in the world after all the years of conditioning. It was such a nice change to see that, on every level of play, other people being around is desirable rather than an inconvenience.

This is the first time in a long time that I wasn't disappointed after actually trying a game. Even if this game ends up only entertaining me for a few months (which seems unlikely, I think I'm addicted), the impact this game will have on how future games are made is undeniable - they've found elegant answers to so many long standing MMO problems.

Excellent fun, we're very excited for the next event.

I totally agree with this.

GW2 met my expectations and, in many ways, is the MMO I have been hoping and waiting for since I first started playing MMOs almost 13 years ago.

The game isn't perfect, but that just leaves room for improvement on the new framework that GW2 has established. When I say it isn't perfect, that doesn't mean it isn't phenominal, because it is, but I can also see it as the trail blazer for a new form of MMORPG moving forward. Not only does GW2 raise the bar by a large amount, but it places the bar at the head of a new path for MMO design.

I'm also ooking very much forward to the next WBE and anticipate playing this game over the long term once it launches.

I hope they don't grant refunds.  A refund is not a guaranteed thing, it's not smoething you're suppose to get. When you buy something you sign a contract.

One of the benefits I received for buying the game was access to beta.  Once you receive that benefit, you have essentially began the benefits of the purchase.

IF I buy tickets to a movie, i can't watch 10 minutes of the movie and ask for my money back.

Actually, if the movie is NOT what you were expecting, you definately can talk to the manager.  You most likely won't get your money back, but will get tickets to another movie (at least that's how it works up here)

If ArenaNet is smart, they WILL allow refunds.  It's just good customer service, and will save them a LOT of grief from chargebacks (Yes, those do have a detrimental effect on the company being charged back)

Interesting. So they locked you into the $60 purchase in order to get access to beta, and from what I read on the forums the beta was barely playable for a lot of people. I hope you guys that had a rough time getting in recieve another BWE with a better client.

Pretty shady company practice to do that, IMO. Even Star Wars let you cancel your pre-order right up until Early Access, and their practices were pretty shady as well.

I actually agree with you, they should let people cancel.

I played GW2 and feel like it's a great game, let it stand on its own merits.  Having a "paid beta" and then not allowing people to cancel their preorder just seems like a dirty marketing tactic.  Which is sad because like I said, I think GW2 is awesome and there is seriously no need for these dirty tactics to get money.

Man why is this so damn confusing and hard for people to understand? It's not a PAID BETA, you didn't PAY FOR BETA. You BOUGHT THE GAME, which allows you ACCESS to the beta. When you buy a released game, open it, and happen to not like it, are you EVER allowed to take it back? Nope. How is that any different here? If you had reservations then you should have waited, because ANet made it clear right from the start that this was a full purchase with no returns.

There's literally nothing dirty about it and for you to suggest that is asinine.

I'd agree with you, except for that whole marketing campaign where they used the beta access specifically to sell the pre-purchases. I've got several emails from Anet, GameStop, Amazon, etc. all with the specific message of:

PRE-ORDER NOW FOR BETA ACCESS.

They were clearly using the beta access as a marketing tool, and if you can't (or refuse to) see that then I can't help you.

As for returning games you don't like... yes you can. If there's ever a product you're not happy with, most businesses will take the game back as a return, especially if it's a single player title that they can resell.

No.

PREtty stupid to read PREorder when it clearly states PREpurchase, the PREsident can tell you PREsently that PRE is just a suffix that PREcedes a word and that what is behind the PRE counts as much as what is after.

It said PREpurchase. Repeat after me: PREpurchase. Do it again please, and again and again.

And no, for MMORPGs since the key is tied to your account (email account, card account), your box is now useless, unless you are able to separate the game key from the account (which is AFAIK impossible). So they shouldn't accept it back.

First of all, and anecdotally, this is the first major game I've followed to use a pre-purchase instead of a pre-order. For some I'm sure up until very recently those two terms meant one and the same.

And since we're so enthralled with the word PRE in our reply, can we both agree that the PREfix means BEFORE, and could easily be misconstrued to as to mean a transaction prior to purchase? I'm not saying that some, or even most people didn't know the true intent behind it the wording, but certainly there's room for error.

So, I've followed the white rabbit in these marketing emails chasing the Beta carrot all the way up to entering my credit card information. In none of the emails, and in none of the web pages leading up to them taking someones money does it ever once say 'Non-Refundable', nor does it even hint that this purchase is a final sale even prior to recieving your product. I've combed the fine print on each step of the journey, and there's nothing whatsoever to indicate that.

So imagine a regular gamer, not having been following the game as hardcore as most, but defnitely interested from the screenshots and videos from various cons. Is it so impossible to believe that a person could recieve one of these emails, go through their purchase with the magical word of BETA flashing across their screen at every turn, and have no idea that this would be non-refundable should they decide the don't like the product?

So, thank you for the condescending reply. Regardless of whether it says Pre-order, or pre-purchase I think you know it was a pretty shady marketing move.

No way am I cancelling lol! Isn't much surprise to anyone who have been following my posts..

This has been Anet's first ever BWE and a partially closed one as well with no release date...and it still managed to get me floored.

It will just get better and better and I know the game has a very bright future ahead :).

Just want GW2.

It's not lame. It's in the writing. That's why it is called pre-purchase and not pre-order.

It says it right on the pre-purchase page. Once the beta took place, the codes are 'used'. Not sure how it would work if you bought now and cancelled before the next beta.

I am attempting to decipher your post. Let's start with "Pre" it's a prefix not a suffix. But, not in the word president The word is incomplete without the "pre". Sident? is that a word? I do, however, get what you are saying about the difference between pre-order and pre-purchase. Meaning the difference between purchasing and ordering the product pre-delivery. But I fail to see how that relates to game keys outside of being ANet being pre-disposed to a pre-purchase policy instead of pre-order, since other companies have allowed access to their betas from a pre-order. Not saying that someone is automatically due a refund, I just don't see how pre-purchasing the game, getting a beta key precludes a refund. To me, a no refund policy would have to have been pre-established in the pre-purchase agreement.

The Key is tied to the account and that specific beta client. NOT the final product. The final product has not been delivered and thus is unused and unopened. No one has thus far presented any evidence where it was in the pre-purchase agreement that said "No Refunds" Unless that language is present, I think it's a bit presumptuous to say that someone has no recourse to receiving their prepayment back.

If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win.

Was skeptical to play after all the gw2 flaming I have seen this past year but figured well lets see what they are backing....

Very stall tastic and not all that innovative as was claimed...And yes this is a very care bare game...The pvp I did do was well to be honest weak. I just dont think this lived up to the hype and was not all that impressed with it.

Btw the whole gw2 will destroy subscription is kinda laughable. When I beta tested the original people said the same thing and yet wow still exist as do some others..When f2p rose like a man on viagra they said the same thing and yet see wow..You can not just say this will do something that obviously shows to have enough support sustain a revenue...People will pay for what they want. I mean look at apple. Horrible technology, Dictatorship like EULA, And massive invasions of privacy for profit, yet people still pay for it.

lol, they saw you enjoying the beta and wanted some, too.

Why do families always do that?

"no, I am not hungry"

"are you sure? I am only getting enough for me."

"yes, I am sure."

"Ok, I'm off to the store"

"bye"

*door closes*

*several minutes later door opens*

"I'm back!"

"did you get that ice cream?"

"yea"

"what kind"

"why do you care?"

"just tell me"

"happy tracks"

"oooh.. can I have some?"

"no, go away"

"nom nom nom... This is soo good, thanks for getting it."

I love that you're naive enough to not realize that, GW 1 did exactly that. They were at the forefront of no subscription, the fullback to the flood of Free to play games and a system that every analysis believes is a better system for players and companies.  Soon after even games ith strong Sub systems added elements of Free to play games. Expansions, extra cash shops etc.

I saw the title and I found the thread natural for any mmorpg closer to release, where people have some actual first hand experience with it. In fact, after the recent beta weekend, I find it interesting that there aren't any more of those threads floating around. Then again, two days of exposure can hardly sate the honeymoon effect most fresh games have on people.
