OP, let me be the umpteenth person to point out you didn't pay for the beta, you paid for a game, beta access was just the offered bonus and that's what you got, beta access.

Beta access doesn't guarantee you make it into the game and get to play, it just means you can try. If you hit snags and can't get in, that information is just as important to a developer as the information from those of us who could. And THAT is what a beta is for, to provide information to the development team, not so you get to play for 60 hours.

But by all means, try and get a refund. You don't sound like anyone I want to meet in-game anyway.

Like everything in life, it's all in your perspective.

I didn't pay to "test the game" I paid because I had every intention of buying it whenever it released. I bought it now because that let's me play a bit with the beta builds before it releases and I'm glad I got to see that it's even better than I'd expected

If you had no intention of buying it but you paid just for the beta weekend then that was your choice--not one I would make but whatever.

If you bought it and didn't enjoy it, well it's no different than if you bought it after release and didn't enjoy it then. It's not like we haven't all done that with a game at one time or another.

Everything else in this thread is just drama.

Exactly, I pre-purchased cause I was super excited to play, I even told myself I wouldnt test during beta weekend so i didnt ruin the game first time playing it when servers went live, but I still played anyways and im glad I did.

So OP, bro, im sorry you didnt get your moneys worth or whatever but your making a big deal out of nothing.

The game doesn't have to be "acceptable" to you in a Beta stage.

Technically this game is not even at an acceptable beta stage and I regret having given Anet my money already now as the inability of the tech team to deal with all those problems does not bode well for release.

Ive played almost 50hours and friend of mine 30hours so it seems your just in bad luck or bad internett bad PC and can't handle the game properly?

Btw on beta forums shows majority had a blast only maybe few could not play.

If they didn't give you beta entry with your purchase, you wouldn't have paid for it, and 99% of other people wouldn't have either.

Yes but you'll never get them to admit it.

You might be surprised by the actual percentages if you would perform a real (and anonymous) survey on prepurchasers.

Frankly, if you buy a game when you're not sure if you want to play it,  just to be in beta then you're a complete idiot imho so folks whining about it are actually whining about their own stupidity.

As for me personally (and some folks I know), I knew I was going to buy the game as soon as pre-orders would be up already 2 years ago when I had my first hands on experience with the first public demo version of the game at Gamescom. Before I was expecting / almost sure I would play it but after that I was 100% sure.

So add me to the list of persons for which BWE is just a perk to their product, not the product or part therof they bought.

First off, OP you're an idiot. This isn't a pay to test the game setup, it's called beta and people had the opportunity to pay for it or not. Nobody forced anyone to buy it. I think that about covers it. Oh, and quit being stupid you moron.

I absolutely pre-ordered the game to get into the beta.

Then again, I understand what a BETA is and don't complain that things aren't working.

Why do people care about this?!?!?!

I choose what to do with my money. This wasn't a surprise, you pre-order, you get beta access. Done. Everyone was aware of it, so the people who bought it, that's their choice, why do you care what people do with their money?

Looks at post history... every single post a negative about GW2.

As someone "on the wrong side of 40" as you say, are you still really this niave or is this your first beta?

I don't mean to be offensive but come on man... this is grade A trolling at it's worse. You can't be this niave.

This beta was average Friday night, all problems anyone can and should expect because no one has really ever done any better... above average Saturday/Sunday.

Still no RIFT, they had an amazing Beta, TOR has similar log in problems at first too. AoC/WAR were about the same if I rememeber correctly.

I didn't beta WoW but at launch it was terrible, spent more time waiting to play than playing.

I paid $60 for 15 hrs of really fun gameplay.

I can blow through most single player games in 20 hours.

Now i have future beta weekends and the actual release. Money well spent.

Also, arenanet and closed beta players released a ton of info and vids... mitigating a financial risk on my $60 bucks.

Since its s non-grindy game, i really dont care too much about beta char wipes.

I only dabbled in the lower level pve - i want to wait till release to ride a perma character through the story-line / pve. Im not a pve person but i really enjoyed the content i experienced.

I bought and paid for the game in 2010...don't assume...for obvious reasons.

You sir, sorry to say obviously don't know your consumer rights. Anyone who wants a refund should contact their bank if credit card was used.. Nothing to complain about... Simply file a form and sign it, don't commit any lies, or crimes in doing so and get back to normal life.

Now with that said, I have no backing to whatever topic this is.. Marketing is marketing, I have always felt selling beta access is a bad move, but companies gave up caring long ago.. Its numbers and thats the final line. They know what they are doing.

I am just saying, if you really don't like tihs game, and want a refund, just because the company says no refund don't make it the law. And not having a product in your hand already, kind of makes that hard to defend. In the USA of course

Hardware & OS specs plz?...

I watched the Tech forum and very few other people were having any trouble getting in on Saturday/Sunday.  (or were trying to create on a Serve that was already at Max Pop) Any who did, either didn't Prepurchase before the deadline, tried to get in with a Pre-Order, or got scammed into purchasing a "Fake" Copy.    ....put simply, if you couldn't run it, then your computer is the biggest heap of shit ever and you need to get it looked at.

You know, it's called Beta TEST for a reason, you are testing the game. People still think that a beta test is a trial so they can try out the game and probably most of them didn't even see the bug report button on the top left of the screen, much lees use it.

Also, almost everyone I know had no problems during the weekend apart from those on Friday when the servers opened, and neither did I.

You call your post "How can anyone find paying for a test acceptable" and yet you bought the game yourself, bit of a contradiciton there. You don't find it acceptable and you did it...   nice.

I am afraid that you are mistaken,

In much of the U.S. once you gain any benefit from your purchase of a product a company is within their legal rights to refuse a refund. Beta Access was advertised as a benefit of the pre-purchase. The OP makes it clear that he not only understood that to be the case (after all he is complaining about it) but that he partook of that benefit.

He cannot return the beta access that he has used and so has little or no legal standing to demand a refund.

As another poster described with a colorful analogy (paraphrased): You can't open the cereal box, dig around and take the prize, and then demand a refund on the cereal itself.

If the OP had not participated in the beta even he could make the argument that he has not yet received benefit of his purchase (and would still face an uphill battle in some areas of the U.S. where a posted "no refunds" sign is legally supportable).

To clarify, I hope that A-Net is willing to refund the OP's purchase. In general it is better business to offer refunds in situations of this sort than to stick to their guns about the policy. Companies with liberal refund policies (within reason of course) generally do better than those that are more miserly. But arguments about the illegality of the policy are very much off base.

When all has been said and done, more will have been said than done.

Yup. I pre-purchased in full at Gamestop several months ago. All I had to do was raise hell at Gamestop to get my pre-purchase stuff when it was announced.

I had/have no issue giving my money to Anet for a prepurchase. I am a big fan of the original Guild Wars, and love the free to play after initial purchase of the game (and no I do not consider the cash shop part of any fee, it is a totally optional expense as far as I am concerned and you won't convince me otherwise) There where bugs during the BWE but it was to be expected, anyone going into any kind of beta is a retard to not expect otherwise, sorry but its true, its the reason its called a beta, so they can work out any issues before launch.

The game played pretty smoothly for me, I enjoyed the classes I played and my friends thought the game loked great when I showed it to them also, there all prepurchasing before the next BWE as they are sold this will be a solid game when finalized and released.

So Anet made it so prepurchasers could get in to the BWE's, it makes sense as it hels limit the amount of people in ther first BWE, if they just invited everyone who signed up they would have way more bug and official forum feedback than they could track. Keep in mind the game is not finished yet, but when it is, its yours, come back to it in a week or 4 years and you won't have to pay a cent unless you want an expansion or whatever they might do, but i bet you will not have to pick those up if you do not want to either, thoughit might suck if your friends are playing in some area you where not able to go.

Also as a prepurchaser one should have done research on the game before buying it, watch some you tube videos, read some articles, ect. (maybe some of you did but I am sure alot did not, they just listened to they hype) If there was any doubt hold off a little for a BWE to go by or heck maybe even two, or wait till they have a release date, than make your decision. Don't just go rush out and buy something than decide you don't like it and bitch because you can't return it. Read the fine print and know what your getting into!
